NON-CITES Exotic leather without the fuss! CITES is an international agreement between governments to ensure that international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. Excellent!
CITES consists of an intentional barrier to trade, which is manifested in complicated procedures for international transport. And that approach is simply brilliant, because in modern business time and patience are always in short supply. We really can’t be bothered with all that red tape! Enter Atlantic Leather, riding to the rescue on its white steed, to show that exotic leather from non-endangered species really does exist: Fish leather is NON-CITES – exotic leather without the fuss! The four fish species whose skins we make into leather are under constant monitoring: wolffish and cod are caught right in our own backyard, in Icelandic waters; our salmon is farmed; and we import perch skin from Africa – because the fish grow much bigger there. In all cases, we are utilising a raw material which would otherwise be discarded. So fish leather is the archetypal by-product: if you want a dictionary definition of “by-product,” fish leather is it!
