Unique new cod leather
Cod leather is just like... hmmm?... cod leather! The utterly random texture, with alternating areas of rough and smooth, makes cod leather absolutely unique – and no-one else in the world tans cod leather. When we tan cod skin into leather we have no way of controlling the varied texture that emerges – but we have the option of compressing and varnishing the irregular surface to produce a smooth and silky finish. Whether rugged or smooth, cod leather is an exciting new material to use in design of all kinds.
New? It’s now five years since we started producing cod leather. We’ve always felt it had a special charm, but from the clients’ viewpoint it was always outshone by salmon leather – the hides were smaller, and cod leather offered a limited colour palette. So cod leather remained something of an “ugly duckling” in our range of products. But a year ago we embarked on a radical rethink, and now we have come up with a new kind of cod leather.

More diverse colours, bigger hides Thanks to new methods in tanning cod leather, we are now able to offer a large range of colours – the palette for cod is almost as diverse as for salmon leather. And developments on the cod market mean that we can now acquire larger hides for tanning – these are now comparable in size to salmon hides. Cod hides are, however, very different in shape , as they are triangular in form, tapering sharply from the head towards the tail. And this is yet another special feature of cod leather that offers interesting possibilities in design.
Keen interest This year we have presented our new cod leather at international leather shows in France, Italy, and most recently in Hong Kong, where it has attracted well-deserved attention – and that is no surprise! Our ugly duckling has become a beautiful swan!
