THE CIT Y OF NEW YORK O F F I C E O F T H E M AYO R NEW YORK, NY 10007
Hon. Bill de Blasio Mayor, City of New York
Dear Friends:
It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone as the New York Organizing Committee of the Cricket Hall of Fame hosts its 2021 Induction Ceremony. Sports have been an important part of New York’s incredible cultural landscape for centuries, and by promoting the values of cooperation, leadership, and determination, they continue to bring joy to our residents year-round. Since its founding in 1981, the Cricket Hall of Fame has been invaluable in advancing the ideals of friendly competition, teamwork, and tenacity through programs that promote the sport while also working to give back to communities and improve the quality of life for people of all backgrounds. This terrific event commemorates the exceptional achievements of individuals from around the world and their dedication to the game of cricket. As you gather to celebrate the athletes and supporters that make this sport great, I am proud to join with cricketers and fans alike in applauding all those who have made vital contributions to the development of cricket in New York City and beyond. On behalf of the City of New York, congratulations to all of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees and honorees. I offer my best wishes for a wonderful ceremony and continued success in all that you do. Sincerely,

A BRIEF HISTORY Is there a Cricket Hall of Fame in the United States of America? Yes! In February of 1981, some visionary Hartford cricketers established the Hall of Fame after a year of frustration and disappointment. At the outset, the organization was named the "United States Cricket Hall of Fame," but that name was short-lived because of proprietary considerations. Buoyed by encouragement from team representatives from Toronto, Canada, to Los Angeles, California, an attempt to get the institution got off the ground was initiated. An Executive Committee was formed and tasked with getting the organization up and running. They established a formula by which every participating organization would share equally in the business of the Hall of Fame. With some apprehension but much enthusiasm, the Executive Committee mailed the document to the organizations and a select geographically representative board of regents. After some tedious work and expense, the results that followed proved to be disastrous. Not a single organization or individual responded. Unmoved by the lack of genuine interest, the Executive Committee at its February 1981 meeting agreed to recommend to the membership of the Sportmen's Athletic Club, Inc. that the concept be developed as an in-house initiative. The optimism of the Executive Committee to launch the new phase was supported by members who thought the idea of a Hall of Fame was long overdue. However, faced with the pitfalls of unique ideas and stinging criticism, the committee stuck to its convictions, and the rest is now history.

On October 17, 1981, the first Annual Cricket Hall of Fame Induction Dinner was held at the Hartford Holiday Inn Hotel. The inaugural dinner was well attended, with the facility's capacity of 330 dinner guests exceeded, and the program's festive nature prevailed. James Gabriel, John Law, Lloyd Walford, Alfred Valentine, Lance Gibbs, and Wesley Hall were the first inductees. Soon after, the Cricket Hall of Fame was dormant for five years. However, under the leadership of former Sportmen's president Michael Chambers, the Hall of Fame became active again and has since regained the respect it previously enjoyed among cricketers and enthusiasts. Since its revival, the Hall of Fame has inducted former Test stars Sir Vivian Richards, Alvin Kallicharran, Joel Garner, Michael Holding and Andy Roberts of the West Indies, Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar and Syed Abid Ali of India, Gregg Chappell and Kerry Packer (posthumously) of Australia and Tony Greig of England. Local inductees included Roy Sweeney, Vincent HoSang, Hugh Pitter, and Mahammad Qureshi. The institution has also aided some deserving charities, including procuring more than 400,000 surgical gloves for caregivers in Jamaica working with AIDS-infected children. Through its Humanitarian Award program, the Hall of Fame has raised funds for organizations like the Boys' Town project and Boy Scouts movement in Jamaica, a youth hotline project in Barbados, the Alvin Kallicharran Foundation, and a children's home in St. Lucia.
FELICIA DAVIS President, Cricket Hall of Fame With great pride and pleasure, I extend an overwhelming thank you for your support at this Induction Ceremony. The Cricket Hall of Fame, founded in 1981, honors those who have had outstanding performances in the beloved sport and helped foster the game's growth and development in the USA and those who have made recognizable contributions in their communities. Our officers and members welcome all the honorees, their guests and friends to the ceremony. We would also like to thank all the businesses and organizations who have provided such generous support by taking out advertisements in our souvenir journal. For the event to be successful, we needed the help of you all. Special appreciation goes to our New York Planning Committee members for the tremendous assistance provided to ensure the ceremony would be a resounding success. Tonight's Induction Ceremony honors those nominees who did not participate in last year's ceremony, held via Zoom because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Last but not least, we would like to thank all the state and city officials for their participation in the development of the sport in the USA. Much work still needs to be done, but there would truly be little or no improvement without their involvement. As the new president of the Cricket Hall of Fame, I want to let you know that we, at the Hall, greatly appreciate you all for coming out to share this event with us. As we look towards the future, we hope that you will continue to support us. Congratulations to all the Inductees and other honorees. May God bless you all.

IAIN HIGGINS Chief Executive, USA Cricket On behalf of USA Cricket, I am honored to extend congratulations to this year's class of Cricket Hall of Fame inductees for their contributions to the sport of cricket at the local and international levels. Such recognition is indicative of the high level of respect and appreciation that the cricket community has for all of the inductees. It is a great honor for them to be inducted into such an illustrious group as the Cricket Hall of Fame in Hartford, Connecticut. I am delighted at the opportunity to congratulate former Pakistan Test cricketer Mohammad Younis Khan, local New York cricketers Joseph Allen, Zamin Amin, Wesley King, and Leroy Ramsay. Along with New York City Parks Commissioner Martin Maher for all they have done to develop the sport internationally and in their local communities. Congratulations to Sir Garfield Sobers on being accorded a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's induction ceremony; the complete body of work contributed by the legendary Sir Garfield, a global cricketing icon and hero, is worthy of two Lifetime Achievement Awards. It is an honor to extend the hand of congratulations to him for such a profound contribution. I note with a great sense of appreciation that this year's list of inductees includes cricketers at the local and international levels, but just as importantly, volunteers and representatives of government agencies. While cricket provides an opportunity for individuals to shine, it remains a team sport. Success relies firmly on the support of teammates, volunteers, administrators, and parents, especially in a developing market such as the United States. Thus, it is noteworthy and pleasing that volunteers who help the sport's growth are also suitably acknowledged and recognized for their contributions. I am also happy to see the contribution of groundsman Nathaniel Henderson and umpire Carl Patrick be recognized, albeit posthumously. Inductees into the Cricket Hall of Fame are an elite group of individuals who stand tall in the sport. USA Cricket is pleased and privileged to help acknowledge their invaluable contributions. Yours in cricket.

MASCELLES W. BAILEY Chairman, New York Planning Committee Distinguished Guests, Fellow Hall of Famers, Members of the Cricket Fraternity, Ladies and Gentlemen. On behalf of the Cricket Hall of Fame, it is a pleasure to welcome you all to this year's Special Induction Ceremony of the Cricket Hall of Fame. As you may recall, because of Covid-19, the 2020 Induction Ceremony was conducted via Zoom. However, the New York Inductees opted to have an in-person ceremony, hence our presence this evening. The Cricket Hall of Fame was established in 1981 to recognize cricketers who played the sport at the highest levels and individuals who dedicated their lives to promoting and preserving the sport here in the United States and beyond. We have the distinction of being the first Cricket Hall of Fame in the world. Since its inception, some of the greatest cricketers from the West Indies, England, Australia, India, and Pakistan, have enthusiastically accepted induction into the Hall of Fame. Locally, some great cricketers and many outstanding contributors to the enhancement and preservation of cricket have all been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Tonight, we have the honor and pleasure of inducting another great international cricketer from Pakistan-the illustrious Mohammad Younis Khan. His biography speaks for itself. Tonight, we are incredibly proud of our local inductees, and we honestly believe that they are very deserving candidates because of their exceptional service and dedication to our region's cricket. My heartfelt congratulations and welcome to the club. Let me thank all the businesses and individuals who took congratulatory ads in our souvenir journal and to everyone here for your continuing support of the Cricket Hall of Fame. We appreciate all you have done to make this evening a success. And, finally, this evening could not have happened without the superb job done by our Planning and Organizing Committee - Mascelles Bailey, John Aaron, Bassett Thompson, Lloyd Dixon, Godfrey Mitchell, Curtis Clarke, Krish Prasad, Cliff Roye, Venelda Wallace, John Mitchell, Charles Simpson, Michael Chambers, Stanford Walker, and Ovid John. Thank you all for a job well done.

INTERNATIONAL CRICKET INDUCTEE
Mohammad Younis Khan Mohammad Younis Khan has captained Pakistan national cricket teams in all three formats of the game. Born in Mardan, Pakistan, the master strokeplayer is known for his ability to remain focused, composed, and resistant, making him an outstanding batsman. He was able to consistently convert his starts into huge scores, which attracted many fans. Mohammad Younis Khan started playing cricket in the Pakistan domestic circuit for the United Bank Limited in 1998/99. He made his National ODI debut in February 2000 against Sri Lanka. On his Test debut, Khan scored a century against Sri Lanka. In October 2004, he started to make his mark on the international stage as a consistent performer. In the Pakistan-Australia series, Pakistan was whitewashed by Australia 3-0. Younis Khan emerged as the top run-getter for his team and was promoted to vice-captain of the Pakistan National squad. Younis Khan has scored a double century against India. However, just as Younis Khan was experiencing great success in the cricketing world, he had some significant setbacks in his personal life. His father died in 2005, and as a result, he had to fly back from Australia. That was soon followed by the death of his eldest brother in 2006, Mohammed Sharif Khan, who, in Younis' words, taught him to play cricket. In January 2007, he scored a match-winning unbeaten 67 in the 4th innings to guide Pakistan to victory over South Africa in Port Elizabeth, and became the fastest Pakistani to reach 4000 Test runs, just behind Javed Miandad.
For his performances in 2008, he was named in the World ODI XI by the ICC. In 2005, Younis Khan first skippered the Pakistan ODI team in the third ODI of the series against West Indies, where they won and clinched the series 3-0. After that, Khan was offered the role of captaincy, but he turned down the opportunity. Finally, in 2009, he accepted the leadership role, and great success followed. He scored 313 runs as captain, the highest individual score by a Pakistan skipper at the time, and helping his team save the match. As captain, Younis Khan proudly led Pakistan to its championship victory in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. In 2013 he scored an unbeaten double-hundred against Zimbabwe, and in 2015 Younis Khan played his 101st Test match against Sri Lanka and scored an unbeaten 171 in the game's fourth innings. For his performances in 2015, he was named in the World Test XI by the ICC. Younis Khan finally called it a day on his playing career, retiring from all forms of international cricket after the series against the West Indies in May 2017. He is the first Pakistani to score 10,000 plus runs in Test cricket, and his 34 centuries is the highest number of Test centuries by a Pakistani Test cricketer. Numerous records fell on the road of an illustrious career. He will be remembered for his sterling contributions to the Pakistan national team and, by extension, the world's cricketing community.

LOCAL CRICKET INDUCTEE
Joseph Allen Joseph Allen was born in Mines District, Saint Ann,
Jamaica, next to a cricket field. It was his destiny to achieve his true calling in the world of cricket. At an early age, "Joe" developed a passion for cricket and a unique talent for playing the game.
By the age of 12, he represented his school (Mount Zion All Age), playing competitive matches against similar All-Age schools in the parish. Finally, at age 14, Joe represented the St. Ann's Bay Junior Secondary School as the team's captain. In 1972, he moved to Kingston to attend St. Andrew Technical High School. Although he played some cricket in Kingston, his real passion was playing for the parish team in St. Ann. To accomplish that, Joe traveled to St. Ann every weekend to play against the senior parish players. Finally, after two arduous years during which time he never thought of giving up, Joe was selected for the St. Ann parish team. However, as with many things in life, as one's dreams come true, situations change. For Joe, shortly after making the parish team, he migrated to the United States of America. In 1980, a young, spirited, and very passionate Joseph Allen joined the Cornwall Athletic Club in New York as a fiery left-arm fast bowler. He was selected for the New York Cricket League's (NYCL) All-Star team in 1981. By the end of the season, he was named MVP after capturing 41 wickets. Joe Allen was selected for the 1982 New York Metropolitan All-Star Team and got an opportunity to play against world-famous cricketers such as Dennis Lillee, Bryan Lara, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Carlyle Best, and many others.
At the start of Joe's cricket career, it became quite evident his passion for winning was limitless, but his biggest asset was his leadership ability. Joe was quick to demonstrate to his peers that if leaders demonstrate key values of respect and integrity, people would admire those attributes and want to follow them. Joe's strong leadership is also in building credibility. He does not believe that leaders can "tell half the truth hoping the other half doesn't show up." He is fond of saying "trust in truth" and embrace the values of respect and integrity. In 1984, Joe became captain of his team in the NYCL, a position he held through 1987. During that time, his team won numerous championships. He was named MVP for the NYCL five times and garnered countless individual awards for his performance against the Commonwealth and Long Island cricket leagues. In 1993, Joe Allen was selected for the United States national squad but got injured and was unable to travel with the team overseas. For his outlook and approach to leadership and the many management roles he has held, Joe Allen became known as "Joe the Leader." He recognized that all organizations must have competent leadership to survive; thus, the management of any organization must be considered just as important as participation. Over many years in Cornwall Sports Club, Joe has held several executive positions, namely: President, Vice-President, Cricket Captain, Public Relations Officer, and Treasurer. He currently holds the position of Treasurer of the club. As an added responsibility, he has coordinated many overseas
27
cricket trips to Canada, Barbados, Jamaica, and within the USA. Joe has enjoyed a rewarding relationship with Sportmen's Athletic Club (SAC) of Hartford, Connecticut, since 1981, and was a member of the club for several years. His leadership was demonstrated a few years ago when the Van Cortlandt Park in New York was being renovated. To keep the Cornwall Cricket Club's team together rather than break apart and play for different teams in New York, he asked the members to join the SAC and play cricket with them, winning six of eight Connecticut Cricket League championships in Hartford. The players in New York still talk about that incredible leadership maneuver. When a new cricket organization for older players in New York-New York Cricket Masters Association (NYCMA) was established, the organizers immediately contacted Joe to be a part of the organization. Joe's team, the Bronx Crusaders Masters, had dominated the NYCMA winning nine championships within a few short years. Joe's leadership was instrumental in the success of the Bronx Crusaders' organization. He currently holds the position of Treasurer of that organization. When the Bronx Crusaders Masters team participated in the Michael Holding Masters Tournament in Jamaica, Joe arranged for the team to sponsor a youth cricketer who had passed his exam to High School. The group continues the tradition in its annual tour to Jamaica. Additionally, Joe has been sponsoring a cricket and a football team for the past 25 years in his hometown of Mines District, St. Ann, Jamaica. The Michael Holding Masters Tournament (MHMT) has since been discontinued; however, a new organization, United States Masters Cricket Association (USMCA), took over, and an annual tournament was created. Once again, Joe was one of the key individuals considered for a leadership role in developing the new organization. The first-year USMCA tournament was considered a huge success. Joe is currently the Hospitality Coordinator for USMCA.

To My Husband Zamin You introduced me to cricket several decades ago. I watched you play then. I saw your dedication, your love and passion for the game. I see you play now, and you still have that dedication, love and passion for the game. I saw you play in South Africa a year ago and thought of a gazelle as I watched you chase a ball. Your dedication is admirable. Your success is well-deserved. I’m proud of you, and I love you. Avena 34

LOCAL CRICKET INDUCTEE
Zamin Amin Zamin Amin was born on April 5, 1963 at Albion, in the County of Berbice in Guyana. A left-arm orthodox bowler and middle-order batsman, Zamin represented the East Berbice-Corentyne region in the Under-13, Under-16, and the Under-19 regional tournaments and Berbice in the Guyana Inter-County tournament. In 1981, he represented Guyana's Under-19 team against Barbados in the West Indies Benson & Hedges tournament and shortly after migrated to the United States. He then joined the American Cricket Society (ACS) Cricket Club in New York, a club he still represents. Zamin made his senior debut for the USA national cricket team at the 1990 ICC Trophy in the Netherlands and took 13 wickets from seven games finishing as the team's leading wicket-taker (and fifth overall). His best figures of the tournament were four for 29 from 10 overs, which came against Gibraltar, and he scored 56 batting at number seven in that same match. Right after the 1990 ICC Trophy Zamin Amin was appointed captain of the USA's national team and success came immediately. The USA won the Auty Cup against Canada for the first time after several years. Amin was also the leading wickettaker for the USA at the 1994 ICC Trophy, taking 11 wickets from seven matches, including 5 for 20 against Israel. He came close to repeating the feat at the tournament's 1997 edition, with only one other bowler taking more wickets among his teammates. In October 1998, Amin played for the USA in the 1998-99 Red Stripe Bowl, the West Indies domestic one-day competition. However, he had little opportunity to bowl in his two matches and went wicket-less. Amin's next major international tournament was the 2000 Americas Cricket
Cup in Canada. After that, he did not return to the national team until March 2004, when he represented the USA in the ICC Six Nations Challenge in the United Arab Emirates. Later that year, in May, Amin was selected to make his first-class debut, playing against Canada in the newly established ICC Intercontinental Cup. He was 43 years old at the time of his debut and took two wickets in each innings. Despite his age, Amin was his team's equally leading wicket-taker at the 2004 ICC Americas Championship in Bermuda, with his best figures being five for 31 against Argentina. After the championship, the USA played an Intercontinental Cup fixture against Bermuda. It was Amin's last international appearance. Zamin Amin held the record for the most List-A wickets (47) for the USA. from 2004 until Usman Shuja surpassed that record in 2013. Overall, Amin represented the USA in three ICC Trophy tournaments, captained the team in the 1994 tournament, and played in several other tournaments. As the USA captain, Amin went five and two in seven games in the 1994 ICC Trophy tournament, second only to Sew Shivnarain in the percentage of wins and losses. Locally in New York, Amin was very successful as captain of the Inter-Country, Inter-County, ACS, and several other local tournaments. He has also held several administrative positions in the Eastern American Cricket Association, and coached and managed the USA team to Malaysia. Currently, Zamin Amin is the Treasurer of the Eastern American Cricket Association.

AN OPEN LETTER TO HALL OF FAMER ZAMIN AMIN Dear Zamin - I don’t know where to begin to express my deepest gratitude for the journey we have had together. Words cannot adequately describe the joy of all the fantastic victories we have shared over the last 35 years. The countless hours we spent enjoying each other’s company have been heartwarming. You are the ultimate team person. You have given it your all every time you needed to. You are an inspiration to cricket and how the game should be played - with passion, courage, and lots of heart. It was truly amazing to witness the numerous times you managed to outplay everyone in all phases of the game, even when your opponents were most skilled. Undoubtedly, you are the most reliable and winning cricketer I have seen in my 40 years of cricket in New York. I have never met anyone more reliable, accountable, and responsible towards cricket as you have been. It is a testimony to your overall success. Paul, Saheed, and Skip along with Trevor established the ACS standards. However, you became the face of ACS everywhere the team went. It was always Zamin Amin and the ACS team - a tribute to your outstanding leadership. Our camaraderie, beliefs, and loyalty to cricket made us grow as cricketers and our friendship into an ever lasting one. I am honored to sit alongside you in the Cricket Hall of Fame. Sincerely, Terrence Hastoo

Congratulations ZAMIN AMIN on being inducted into the
Cricket Hall of Fame Ever since you and your three brothers started playing for American Cricket Society (ACS), in 1981, I knew you were destined for bigger and better things with your batting, bowling and your electrifying fielding. Even now you continue to represent ACS, some 40 years later in the league's premier division. It is not often that someone represents the same team for so long and at such a high level. From representing the USA, first as a player and then as captain; and last year as captain of a Select West Indies Over-50 team in South Africa. Well done, Zamin! You have made us all very proud.

LOCAL ADMINISTRATIVE INDUCTEE
Martin Maher Martin Maher was born January 18, 1964, the youngest of eight children in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. As a child, he played in Prospect Park and learned to swim at Coney Island and Manhattan Beach. He attended St Francis College and St John's University. Marty as he's commonly called is a 27-year veteran of the United States Coast Guard and served as a qualified boat coxswain, boarding officer, and in the Coast Guard Honor Guard. Additionally, he commanded a Port Security gunboat in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm and has various citations for his distinguished service. Marty started at the New York City Parks Department as a Ranger in 1984 and was promoted to mobile Borough Inspector and served as a beach supervisor in 1987. He was the Deputy Director of Stadia and Marinas (at Shea Stadium) for three years and left to serve in the Persian Gulf. Marty returned as Director of Storehouse Operations at Randall's Island and Director of Special Projects in Brooklyn Operations. He was the manager of Coney Island Beach for five seasons from 1994 through 1998, implementing various projects to beautify Coney Island and improve beach operations. He was promoted to Chief of Staff and served in that position for 18 years, helping to foster over $1 billion in improvements across Brooklyn. He is the agency's liaison to the Department of Veteran Affairs and has been the agency vexillologist for over 20 years. As Chief of Staff, Marty promoted the sport of cricket across the city of New York and helped foster the first designed cricket field in NYC Parks at Spring Creek in Brooklyn, and obtained funding for a new field at Canarsie A Park. Under Commissioner Julius Spiegel, he also organized the Mayor's Cup,
a city-wide championship tournament arranging field time in all five boroughs and culminating in a championship match in Brooklyn for five years. In its final year, he organized the awards ceremony with the Mayor at Gracie Mansion. In 2017, Marty Maher was promoted to Brooklyn Commissioner for NYC Parks. One of his first acts was to reintroduce a championship match in conjunction with the United States Cricket Promoters Association. The match was named the Roy Sweeney Cup and was held on the then newly dedicated Roy Sweeney Cricket Oval, honoring an amazing man who first introduced him to cricket. Though he has 36 years serving the public in NYC Parks, he has no plans to retire. He has planned far too many projects and goals, including improving existing pitches and adding more throughout the borough. He is hopeful that youth and ladies' cricket leagues will also embrace the sport. He is an Eagle Scout hand who has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 45 years serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 237 for over 20 years. He has received numerous accolades, including the highest award for council adult service, the Silver Beaver. In addition, in 2017, he was bestowed with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, one of the rarest awards in the Boy Scouts of America. He has taught over 1000 scouts and adults and serves on local and national training staffs. A Revolutionary War historian, Marty is credited in David McCullough's Book 1776. In his spare time, he teaches colonial cooking, hikes, and swims. He renovated and now owns the Colonial revival house he grew up in and is a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

IN MEMORIAM
Hugh Pitter The fond memories of Hugh Pitter held by many following his passing on January 21st this year serve as the legacy of a man held in the highest esteem. As an individual of great integrity, honesty, and accountability, he was admired by many for his dedication to cricket. Hugh Pitter joined Brooklyn Cricket Club after leaving Jamaica in the late 1950s. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam war. Upon returning from the war, he immediately rejoined Brooklyn Cricket Club and played alongside several young Jamaican players new to the club.. Hugh was a left-arm spinner that had several batsmen feeling for the ball. He was also a member and player of the Jamaica Social Athletic Club (JSAC) in the 1970s. In 1960 Hugh Pitter, then vice president, and other executive members of Brooklyn Cricket Club, through negotiations with the Democratic Leader for the Canarsie area, was able to secure the first cricket purpose-built field in Canarsie Park Brooklyn.
