Wieland Electric and long-term partner, Core Solutions, have recently delivered a fully pluggable modular wiring system for the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) at its campus in Dublin.
The gesis system was tailored specifically to meet the requirement for this modern medical facility. The extent of this project involved the redevelopment of the existing 120 bed facility and its services. The new facility will make the delivery of complex specialist rehabilitation services far easier, through the inclusion of integrated therapy spaces, sports facilities and hydrotherapy pools on the NRH campus.
The Metalynx2 modular wiring system manufactured by Wieland, managed and delivered locally by Core Solutions, incorporated a wiring infrastructure for lighting, intelligent building controls and general power. Metalynx2 provides potential savings of up to 30%, and installation time reductions of up to 70%. It features a patented coding system for different applications and round connectors to minimise space requirements and facilitate installation through firewalls. It is available in 20A and 32A ratings and, thanks to its innovative design, uses a minimum number of components – all of which lock together for secure installation (in compliance with relevant standards).
Metalynx2 is ideal for power distribution, lighting control (including DALI and KNX) and fan coil units – and with the ability to customise Metalynx2 components for special projects, it offers infinite design flexibility. Furthermore, once Metalynx2 has been installed its inherent flexibility means that any changes to the system can be accommodated quickly with minimum downtime. The system also offers an H-distribution block, T-piece, switch modules for PIR, one-way switching applications and a fused spur for fixed power supplies.
The revos product range of multipole connectors are perfect for a variety of installations with high current capacity, and enabled the manufacture of pluggable distribution boards. Additionally, the GST plug and play connector system that was used throughout this project is specifically designed for the built environment and ideal for lighting and building services installations where flexibility and speed of installation are important.
Sustainability is a major driving force for Wieland and Core Solutions and this is clearly evident throughout the NRH project, with zero wastage on site as components are reusable and arrive already assembled. With Core Solutions working alongside consultant Ethos Engineering and electrical contractor Jones Engineering to provide designs, off-site pre-fabrication, proficient technical expertise and excellent customer service, the Wieland’s gesis system has made a great contribution towards ensuring continuity of the hospital’s every day working and safety of the users, patients, visitors and staff alike.
