Career: Graduate Employment – Indicator of Quality Performance

One of the most signiďŹ cant indicators of University quality is a high level of graduate employment.

At Mykolas Romeris University, particular attention is paid to graduate employment and careers, introducing students to career opportunities, providing informational, methodological and advisory consultations, preparing for the job market and dealing with issues of finding a job, facilitating students/ graduates integration into the labour market. The main goal is to provide students and graduates with the most comprehensive information about studies at the University, to collect information about employment opportunities and provide it to students and alumni. These goals are implemented taking into account changes in the country’s and foreign labour market and tendencies to initiate new study programmes and courses for improving professional skills as well as to include more freely-selected optional courses, which would help students plan individual careers and according to this, model their knowledge and develop core skills. The MRU career tracking system helps to monitor, collect, and analyze data about University graduates registered in the State Social Insurance Fund Board of the Republic of Lithuania (SODRA). According to each study programme, the system allows MRU and social partners to analyze labour market tendencies, to collect and organize information about the situation in the labour market, salary trends and so on. In 2013, the University began offering Master’s Degree students an optional elective, “Entrepreneurship and Self-Employment“ to ensure that graduates are able to create jobs and know how to set up new businesses. The course provides knowledge of law, management and psychology. Statistics from the Lithuanian Labour Exchange indicate that about 99% of MRU graduates are successful in finding a job or creating their own job position.

Most Important – to Foster Close Ties & Community Spirit

MRU is attractive to students and lecturers for a number of reasons: great learning environment, modern, spacious, up-to-date auditoriums and lecture halls, sports facilities – suitable even for the country’s national teams for working out.

The main goal of every university and the best quality indicator is student satisfaction and positive feedback regarding studies, as well as university infrastructure. Mykolas Romeris University students call their University – and rightly so – one of the most modern and best-equipped institutions of higher education in Lithuania. MRU’s Library, which is open around-the-clock for the convenience of students and lecturers, is one of the most modern and up-to-date libraries in the country. However, excellent infrastructure and modern university auditoriums and surroundings would be worthless, if not for the MRU lecturers who create an environment conducive to learning that motivates students. The open and liberal approach to teaching at MRU is student friendly and, much like meaningful cooperation, can be called a tradition at MRU. Auditoriums are set up so that students can sit in a semi-circle or circular fashion facilitating discussion with lecturers, where no one has the upper hand. The ranks of MRU Faculty members are constantly growing and expanding. The University draws top notch teaching staff – professors, associate professors, lecturers and assistants from various areas – theorists and practitioners. Almost half of MRU’s Faculty came from other universities to teach here. Most claim that they transferred to MRU for the possibility to excel in their profession and to improve their prospects in the future. An Academic Ethics Centre operates at the University. It unites like-minded people who promote core values, examines contemporary ethical processes of institutionalization in places of higher education and helps implement them. It creates and develops University ethics infrastructure, integrates academic ethics principles in all walks of University life: studies, research activities and management administration processes.

23

When asked what it is that they like most about MRU, students say it’s the legendary, unbelievably lowcosting MRU cafeteria. Students also like the Library, which is open around-the-clock, the convenient parking lot near the main campus, the cozy student dorms, wireless Internet, which is available not only on campus, but also in the MRU dorms and don’t forget the Internet databases accessible online. It’s also great fun to learn in the modern, well-quipped auditoriums. But the overall majority of students say they choose MRU because of the high quality of studies and the great student-lecturer relations, conducive to learning.
