Welcome to our home! Thank you for taking the time to visit our beautiful home. The home was built to last in 1926 and homes constructed today are simply not built in the same manner. The full brick/plaster construction would cost double the selling price of the home to rebuild today – we learned this from our Chubb insurance adjuster! The home is a majestic Mediterranean set one block west of the lake in one of the most desirable towns in the Midwest. The home has been completely restored and updated to the needs of the modern family to create the best of both worlds – historic quality work updated to the most modern technology.

The home was built to last with full plaster and brick construction.

All of the moldings and architectural details are original to the home.

The home has a very large and open floor plan. We have easily entertained close to 200 people on the first floor for many holiday parties. The large open spaces allow for easy entertaining and flow.

The home has worked incredibly well for our three children and many visitors. Everyone has a large bedroom with beautiful built ins and en-suite bathrooms. As you walk around the house, you can see the unique blend of the old world charm and detailing that is often missing in homes built in more recent decades. The prior owners took the home down to the studs and completely replaced every window, restored all the woodwork, and updated the electrical and heating systems. We have updated every system to accommodate smart home technology.

As you enter the home you will see the detailing on the front of the home with the custom iron work, heavy wood frame doors and detailed masonry designs. As you enter the large door through the entryway vestibule, you are immediately awed by the large and expansive hallway with the restored marble flooring original

to the home. Looking to the left you notice a dining room large enough to easily entertain a party of 12. All of the lighting in this room is original to the home. Please note the incredibly high ceilings throughout the home. As you look to the right, the living room with its walls covered in the original wood and moldings.

As you walk down the marble step to the large family room, you will notice the coffered ceilings also original to the home. The family room can easily accommodate many people and we have hosted many events in this large space! Do not miss the curved wood detailing and deep window wells so often missing in today’s construction. You will also notice the large fireplace with the custom metalwork designed screen. The chimney was refurbished in 2019.

A wow feature of the home is the kitchen and the butler’s pantry.

We rarely have a visitor who does not immediately mention how much they LOVE our kitchen! All of the cabinets were custom made by premier cabinet maker, Plato woodwork. The large island made of quartzite is a centerpiece to the room and our family is often gathered around this space. Every single drawer and cabinet was custom made with special features to accommodate the needs of any chef or entertainer! The kitchen also features the famed La Cornue range with 2 ovens, a Wolf convection oven, and a Wolf range (yes we have FOUR ovens all new in 2017!). The kitchen also features 2 Miele dishwashers new in 2017. The family is also often gathered around the kitchen fireplace and lounge area. The butler’s pantry was redone in 2017 and the original cabinets are painted in a high gloss lacquer from Fine Paints of Europe. The countertops have a beautiful white quartz and antiqued mirrors and glass shelves showcase all of your beautiful glassware and silver. This room features a wine fridge, sink and ice maker for all of your entertaining needs. This room easily flows into the dining area for your dinner parties.

The breakfast room is a light and area space with Phillip Jeffries wall coverings and custom window treatments leading to the backyard terrace. The area is large enough to accommodate a table for 6.

A hidden feature of the home is the beautiful cloak area. The doors are hand-painted and are original to the home. The powder room is also large and is a jewel of the home. The vanity is hand-painted and custom and new in 2017. All paints by Fine Paints of Europe.

As you walk down the backstairs, don’t miss all of the incredible built in areas for your pet’s needs, coats and easy access to the attached garage. The garage is also filled with numerous wood built ins and incredible areas for storage.

The basement is a gem of the house and our children love to hang out there! The top features for the kids include: the large electronically controlled movie screen installed in 2018 to the kids newly constructed hang out room with custom built in cabinets and desk area and the extra bedroom and bathroom for all of their sleepovers! Not to forget about the adults, the wine cellar is a beautiful room filled with space for over 600 bottles in a hand constructed space with antique bricks. The built-in wood bar is also perfect for the adult entertaining needs.

The expansive workout room features the space you need for yoga, treadmill or weight training. The best feature often missing in a newer home is the incredible space for storage!

As you head upstairs to the living areas, you will notice that each bedroom has its own bathroom. The rooms are rather large.

The master suite is an oasis with a private and large office area filled with custom wood bookshelves and loads of windows for lots of light. The master bedroom suite also features a fireplace, steam shower and his/her vanities and separate bathroom area with Japanese commode. You will also notice the large custom

closet with space for even the most discerning fashionista!

The skylight keeps the area bright and light throughout even the darkest of the winter months. The secondary bedrooms feature built ins and space for studying and storage. The laundry room features 2 washers and 2 dryers in the light space for the busiest of families. The deck is a great place to escape for a few hours.

As you leave the home, don’t miss the two separate expansive outdoor areas. The fenced in backyard area off the kitchen is perfect for your small children or dogs and easily visible from the kitchen. The shed allows for storage of all of your outdoor needs. As you walk from the family room to the brick porch off the back of the home, you will notice the large entertaining outdoor space with the area to seat 10 people for an outdoor dinner under the lights and trees in the private space. You can also head over the firepit where there is seating for 10 in the large space. Our children have played soccer, football, field hockey and badminton in the expansive area by this space. All of this area is surrounded by large mature trees creating a private oasis.

You can take a quick walk to the beach only a few blocks away or head over to Plaza Del Lago for a coffee, grocery shop or pharmacy run. Our home is from a historic era of quality construction not often seen in today’s world but in keeping with the needs of a busy family and lifestyle we have updated it to accommodate most every need in the modern era. With close proximity to some of the best public and private schools in the country, shopping and city life and the lake living here is extraordinary.
