Dear Friends,
A
s Atrium Health Foundation looks back on a year like no other, we celebrate the bright spots we found amidst uncertain times. In 2020, our community pulled together to ensure the health and safety of others as we sought funding for pandemic relief efforts, supported advancements in treatment options, and improved
healthcare access – for all. This annual report highlights that despite the challenges we faced, philanthropy continued to give hope throughout the region we serve. Because of you, Atrium Health transformed patient centered facilities such as the HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center, pediatric cancer research lab, and pulmonary center at Levine Children’s. In addition, philanthropy transformed patients’ lives, supporting programs and research efforts at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute and Levine Cancer Institute. Philanthropy was also a driving force in transforming our community, as gifts from corporations and foundations enhanced outreach programs to address disparities in care, including virtual behavioral health, mobile Covid testing, cancer screenings, and more. We have a deep appreciation for all community partners – for rallying behind us, for inspiring transformational giving that surpassed $40 million in 2020, and for giving hope. Thank you; and here’s to more bright spots in 2021! With gratitude,
Armando L. Chardiet President

needs of underserved and minority communities in Charlotte. Utilizing Geographical Information System (GIS) data, Atrium Health has used real-time information to identify emerging COVID-19 hotspots in communities where testing site locations are needed most. The national-leading testing model was designed to accommodate schedules for essential healthcare workers, ensure the ability to pay is not an inhibiting factor for those who need to be screened and tested, and eliminate other barriers to care. In response to the disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases affecting the Hispanic population, Atrium Health also established the “Para Tu Salud” initiative – simply translated to “For Your Health.” The initiative has helped provide further education and testing for Hispanic communities in the region. The mobile testing centers have received generous support from Fifth Third Bank.
