Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

At two years old, Cameron is an active boy who loves to run, swim, and play outside. In many ways he’s just like any other toddler. He just happens to be living with cystic fibrosis, a chronic lung disease that causes breathing problems and, for some, gastrointestinal symptoms.

Cameron was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a newborn and has received care for the condition at Levine Children’s ever since. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” for pediatric pulmonology, Levine Children’s provides the highest quality medical care that Cameron and other children living with cystic fibrosis need.

While the disease is a large part of Cameron’s life, this will hopefully lessen as he gets older. Not only will Cameron’s airways grow, requiring fewer treatments, but a breakthrough medication is being studied that has the potential to improve the quality of life for most cystic fibrosis patients. At Levine Children’s accredited Cystic Fibrosis Center, he and other patients have access to first-of-their-kind treatments as soon as they become available.

In the meantime, Cameron is living his best life like any carefree two-year-old – one who can run, swim, and play; and one whose health challenges are part of his childhood, but don't define it.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO ATRIUM HEALTH LEVINE CHILDREN’S

Continued philanthropic support from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is ensuring more patients like Cameron have access to quality cystic fibrosis care. A recent grant award of $128,200 will directly support Atrium Health’s accredited Cystic Fibrosis Center at Levine Children’s Hospital to provide medical care for children and adolescents.

“Since our initial accreditation, our center continues to grow based on the excellent outcomes in clinical care,” shared Dr. Ashley Chadha, specialty medical director, pediatric pulmonary and sleep medicine at Levine Children’s. “We now are approaching 150 pediatric patients and over 100 adult patients who have been under our care. As we continue to grow, we will expand our offerings to include mental health services as well as increasing research opportunities.”
