2021-22 BASKETBALL DR. ROBIN E. BOWEN, PRESIDENT Dr. Robin E. Bowen was unanimously elected the 12th president of Arkansas Tech University by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees on April 22, 2014. She took office on July 1, 2014. The institution has developed and enacted a new strategic plan, new campus master plan, new mission statement and new vision statement under Dr. Bowen’s leadership. Arkansas Tech has achieved significant gains in its four-year graduation rate for first-time freshmen on the ATU campus in Russellville and the three-year graduation rate at ATU-Ozark Campus during the Bowen presidency. During the 2020-21 academic year, Arkansas Tech achieved reaffirmation of its institutional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission for an additional 10-year period. ATU has earned national acclaim from the CollegeNET Social Mobility Index as a leading institution in providing students with access to an enhanced economic position following graduation. Arkansas Tech has ranked No. 1 in Arkansas on the Social Mobility Index seven consecutive years through 2020. In addition, ATU was named to the Colleges of Distinction Best Colleges cohort for 2021-22. Private support for Arkansas Tech has steadily increased during Dr. Bowen’s tenure as president. Donors provided more than $10.5 million in new gifts and pledges to the ATU Foundation during the 2020-21 fiscal year. Dr. Bowen is the first female president of a public, four-year university in Arkansas. She has been identified by the Arkansas Business Publishing Group as one of the Arkansas 250, an annual list of the state’s top influencers and newsmakers. The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region IV-West presented Dr. Bowen with its 2020 President’s Award, a special recognition reserved for a college or university president who has, over a sustained period of time, advanced the quality of student life on campus. In 2017, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville College of Education and Health Professions presented her with an outstanding alumni award in recognition of her achievements in and contributions to higher education. She was selected as a 2016 recipient of the INSIGHT into Diversity Presidents and Chancellors Giving Back Award, the only national award that honors college presidents and chancellors for their commitment to diversity by giving back to their campus and community. Dr. Bowen earned the 2016 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 750 President’s Award in recognition of the diversity and inclusion initiatives Arkansas Tech has established during her administration.

She has previously been recognized as one of AY Magazine’s Most Powerful Women, and she received the Arkansas Traveler certificate from the State of Arkansas. Dr. Bowen is a board member for the International Women’s Forum, the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Arkansas River Valley Alliance for Economic Development and the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce. As is obvious from her volunteer work, Dr. Bowen is passionate about advancing education, at all levels, and enhancing economic development in Arkansas. She received her Doctor of Education degree with an emphasis in higher education administration from Texas Tech University. She also holds a Master of Education degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Kansas. Dr. Bowen and her husband, Doug, are parents of son, Brock; and daughters, Alexa and Brynn.

2021-22 BASKETBALL ATU CAMPUS AMBASSADOR - JERRY THE BULLDOG Jerry the Bulldog was adopted as Arkansas Tech University campus ambassador by proclamation of the ATU Student Government Association during its meeting at the Doc Bryan Student Services Center on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. The action by the ATU SGA represented the re-establishment of an Arkansas Tech tradition that had been lost for more than three-quarters of a century. The original Jerry was a daily part of life at Arkansas Tech in the mid-1930s. He was owned by William O. Young, who oversaw the business affairs of Arkansas Tech as secretary and bursar from 1917-41 and acted as interim president of the college from 1923-25; and his son, Robert A. Young Sr., who grew up to serve as purchasing agent, business manager, vice president for business affairs and vice president for administration and finance at Arkansas Tech from 1941-84 as well as interim president in 1972. Dr. Robert A. Young Jr. has continued his family’s Tech tradition by serving as president of the Arkansas Tech Foundation and as a loyal supporter of Tech athletics. The original Jerry spent much of his time on campus at the armory (later known as the Stroupe Building) with National Guard Battery F. The students and guardsmen there adopted Jerry as one of their own. An article from the Feb. 26, 1936, issue of the Arka Tech student newspaper stated that Jerry was “always present at anything of importance at the armory,” which was a social center of campus at that time and the site of Arkansas Tech home basketball games. When the original Jerry passed away in late 1937, the headline in the Arka Tech proclaimed “Campus Loses Mascot in Passing of Jerry.” The first modern Jerry, whose full name is Jerry Charles Young I, was born on July 17, 2013. He is an English bulldog. He was introduced during a Homecoming Saturday ceremony on Oct. 26, 2013, which was the 103rd anniversary of the first day of classes at Arkansas Tech. Today, Jerry attends a variety of campus events and alumni gatherings as well as Wonder Boys and Golden Suns athletic competitions. In keeping with the original Jerry’s connection to the armed services, Jerry is escorted to many of his official functions by students from the Arkansas Tech U.S. Army ROTC program. Visit www.atu.edu/jerry to learn more about Jerry the Bulldog.

“Your Health Means Everything”, that’s why we offer a newly remodeled mammography suite with a comfortable setting, state of the art 3D mammography, and one on one patient care. Here at SMRMC we have two radiographers registered in mammography and breast ultrasound as part of our team. What does that mean for you??? You can have your initial screening mammography AND any diagnostic follow-up imaging necessary performed at the same facility, by the same familiar face. 2021-22 MEN’S BASKETBALL MARK DOWNEY | @MDOWNEYATU

RECORD AT TECH: 86-57 (6TH SEASON) CAREER RECORD: 252-163 (OVERALL) | 203-143 (4-YEAR) NOTEWORTHY : • Returning to ATU for second stint as head coach • Initial four season stint was 2006-07 - 2009-10 • Led Wonder Boys to team-record 30 wins in final season • Also led ATU to No. 1 ranking during that season • Won 20 or more games five times as a head coach

It turns out all those country roads were leading Mark Downey on a journey back to Arkansas Tech University. Downey, who served as head men’s basketball coach at ATU from 2006-10, has returned as head men’s basketball coach beginning in the 2020-21 season. The decade between Downey’s two stints at ATU was a basketball odyssey that began with a return to his alma mater, the University of Charleston in his home state of West Virginia, to serve as head coach. When Downey first arrived at Arkansas Tech in 2006, he inherited a Wonder Boys program that had accumulated a conference record of 9-39 the previous three years. It had been six years since Arkansas Tech had qualified for the men’s basketball postseason and 10 years since the Wonder Boys had won a postseason game. After a year of transition in 2006-07, Downey led the Wonder Boys to the Gulf South Conference Tournament in 2008. Twelve months later, Arkansas Tech returned to the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss., and walked away with the 2009 GSC Tournament championship. It led to the Wonder Boys’ first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. Arkansas

Tech defeated Benedict College 63-62 in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament before falling to NCAA South Regional host Florida Southern College 95-92 in overtime in the regional semifinals. The final season of Downey’s first stint with the Wonder Boys was among the finest in program history. Arkansas Tech won its first 25 games of the 2009-10 season, attained a No. 1 national ranking for the first time in program history, captured the GSC West Division regular season and GSC Tournament championships and earned the right to host the 2010 NCAA Division II Tournament South Regional. The Wonder Boys rolled past Tuskegee University 92-58 in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament before falling to Valdosta State University 72-60 in the regional semifinals. A month later, Downey accepted the job at the University of Charleston, concluding a four-year stint at Arkansas Tech that saw the Wonder Boys accumulate a 77-43 overall record. He remained at Charleston for three seasons before moving on to become the head coach at the University of West Alabama (2013-14), assistant coach at Bowling Green State

2021-22 MEN’S BASKETBALL University (2014-15) and assistant coach at Purdue University-Fort Wayne (2015-18). After four seasons as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level, Downey returned to NCAA Division II as head coach at Northeastern State University (Okla.) in 2017. There, he orchestrated a turnaround similar to the one he had performed at Arkansas Tech. Downey inherited a RiverHawks program that had gone 28-81 the previous four seasons. By year two, Northeastern State was back in the postseason.

ABBY DAVIS | @ATUTENNISCOACH RECORD AT TECH: 198-147 (18TH YEAR) CAREER RECORD: SAME

NOTEWORTHY : • Named interim athletic director in August 2019 • Serves at Tech's Senior Woman Administrator • Winningest women's tennis coach at Tech • Three-time GAC Coach of the Year • All-Gulf South player as a Golden Sun Abby Davis, who has been fixture in multiple facets at Arkansas Tech for more than a decade, was named Interim Athletic Director in August 2019 and has led the Arkansas Tech Athletic Department through some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable. Just a few months into her role as Interim Athletic Director, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in the United States and in the middle of March 2020, collegiate sports were abruptly suspended for the remainder of the athletic year. Over the next few months, Davis worked alongside athletic leaders and medial professionals within the Great American Conference and the NCAA to find ways to facilitate a safe and healthy return to competition for all sports at Arkansas Tech. Following a conference-wide decision to postpone fall sports in 2020 to spring 2021, Davis continued to work hard to ensure that resumption of competition would be done so in a safe and healthy manner. In January of 2021, Arkansas Tech resumed competition and practice in all sports. Despite the challenges throughout her time as Interim Athletic Director, Davis has continued to lead the athletic department forward and has played an integral role in improving the department’s fundraising efforts with numerous financial gifts and pledges secured to benefit the more than 300 student-athletes at Arkansas Tech. The projects that Davis has spearheaded fundraising efforts for include facility upgrades, scholarship opportunities for student-athletes and overall enhancement of the student-athlete experience. In addition to her role as Interim Director of Athletics, Davis has been the face of Arkansas Tech tennis for more than a decade.

Her tenure has been marked by continuous growth and success. In 18 years as head coach, Davis is the winningest coach in Arkansas Tech women's tennis history with a career record of 198-147. Davis and the Golden Suns have posted a winning record in 12 of the last 14 seasons, including a combined dual record of 57-33 over the past five years. The 2020-21 season marked the 13th consecutive year in which Arkansas Tech played postseason tennis. Under Davis, Arkansas Tech has claimed three regularseason conference titles and one conference tournament championship, including both championships in the inaugural year of the Great American Conference. The Suns have also recorded a 2-2 record in NCAA regional play. Davis has coached 50 all-conference picks, two conference player of the year selections and five conference freshman of the year honorees. She is also a three-time Great American Conference Coach of the Year. Off the court, Arkansas Tech has been named to the ITA All-Academic Team in four of the last five years, and over 50 student-athletes have received conference academic honors. The Golden Suns also represented the Central Region with the ITA Community Service Award in 2017 and 2018, totaling 635 hours of community service. In the summer of 2019, Davis was named chair of the NCAA National Tennis Committee. Davis was also given the title of Associate Athletic Director/ Senior Woman Administrator, extending her role at Arkansas Tech. Davis' tenure as coach followed a four-year run as a Golden Suns tennis player, where she captured all-Gulf South Conference honors. A native of Paris, Ark., Davis lives in Russellville.
