ARKANSAS TECH 2021 FOOTBALL A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT On behalf of the Board of Trustees, students, faculty and staff of Arkansas Tech University, welcome to Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field. After missing the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is wonderful to have the Wonder Boys back on the field. Thank you for helping us fulfill our civic responsibility to limit the spread of the virus by participating in appropriate mitigation strategies this season. As we gather to enjoy today’s game, may we do so with the defining attributes of NCAA Division II foremost in our minds: learning, service, passion, sportsmanship, resourcefulness and balance. Arkansas Tech University student-athletes exemplify these ideals through their performance in competition, in the classroom and in the community. Our Wonder Boys and Golden Suns earned the Great American Conference President’s Trophy for overall athletic performance during the 2020-21 academic year. Their athletic excellence is matched by an academic performance that led to 77 ATU student-athletes earning GAC All-Academic status in 2020-21. In addition, Arkansas Tech student-athletes have finished top five in the NCAA Division II Team Works community service competition each of the last five years, including two community service national championships. We extend our appreciation to you, the loyal fans of the Wonder Boys and Golden Suns. The many and varied achievements of our student-athletes would not be possible without your support of our intercollegiate athletics program. Thank you for being part of the team. Enjoy today’s game and please let us know if there is anything we can do to enhance your stadium experience. Sincerely,

Dr. Robin E. Bowen President

ARKANSAS TECH 2021 FOOTBALL ATU CAMPUS AMBASSADOR - JERRY THE BULLDOG Jerry the Bulldog was adopted as Arkansas Tech University campus ambassador by proclamation of the ATU Student Government Association during its meeting at the Doc Bryan Student Services Center on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. The action by the ATU SGA represented the re-establishment of an Arkansas Tech tradition that had been lost for more than three-quarters of a century. The original Jerry was a daily part of life at Arkansas Tech in the mid-1930s. He was owned by William O. Young, who oversaw the business affairs of Arkansas Tech as secretary and bursar from 1917-41 and acted as interim president of the college from 1923-25; and his son, Robert A. Young Sr., who grew up to serve as purchasing agent, business manager, vice president for business affairs and vice president for administration and finance at Arkansas Tech from 1941-84 as well as interim president in 1972. Dr. Robert A. Young Jr. has continued his family’s Tech tradition by serving as president of the Arkansas Tech Foundation and as a loyal supporter of Tech athletics. The original Jerry spent much of his time on campus at the armory (later known as the Stroupe Building) with National Guard Battery F. The students and guardsmen there adopted Jerry as one of their own. An article from the Feb. 26, 1936, issue of the Arka Tech student newspaper stated that Jerry was “always present at anything of importance at the armory,” which was a social center of campus at that time and the site of Arkansas Tech home basketball games. When the original Jerry passed away in late 1937, the headline in the Arka Tech proclaimed “Campus Loses Mascot in Passing of Jerry.” The first modern Jerry, whose full name is Jerry Charles Young I, was born on July 17, 2013. He is an English bulldog. He was introduced during a Homecoming Saturday ceremony on Oct. 26, 2013, which was the 103rd anniversary of the first day of classes at Arkansas Tech. Today, Jerry attends a variety of campus events and alumni gatherings as well as Wonder Boys and Golden Suns athletic competitions. In keeping with the original Jerry’s connection to the armed services, Jerry is escorted to many of his official functions by students from the Arkansas Tech U.S. Army ROTC program. ARKANSAS TECH 2021 FOOTBALL KYLE SHIPP | @COACH_SHIPP RECORD AT TECH: 4-12 (3RD YEAR) CAREER RECORD: SAME

NOTEWORTHY : • Returning to his alma mater as its 17th head coach • Previously spent time at Tech as a student-athlete, student coach, graduate assistant and wide receivers coach • Crafted one of the top offenses in the GAC as the offensive coordinator at league-rival Arkansas-Monticello Kyle Shipp begins his third year as head football coach in the 2021 season. A former Wonder Boys player and assistant coach returned to Russellville, as Shipp joined the staff as head football coach after joining former head coach Bo Atterberry’s staff in January 2019. During the 2019 season the Wonder Boys were able to produce an important three game win streak that helped them finish the season strong. Under the leadership of Shipp in the 2019 season, Tech landed five players on the GAC All Conference team. Shipp spent the last five seasons as the offensive coordinator at Great American Conference rival Arkansas-Monticello. Shipp’s UAM offenses continually improved over his time in Monticello, with this last year’s Boll Weevil squad averaging 398.6 yards per game - the second-highest mark in the GAC. Two Boll Weevils made all-conference as UAM posted its first winning season since 2008. Two of Shipp’s UAM offenses averaged over 400 yards per game, and in 2017, former NFL wideout Jalen Tolliver was named GAC Offensive Player of the Year. During his time at UAM, Shipp mentored eleven all-Great American Conference players. During his first stint in Russellville, Shipp helped the Wonder Boys offense average 30 points and 400 yards of total offense per game during the 2012 season that featured former Montreal Alouettes quarterback Tanner Marsh, and

18 18

his kickoff return team of 2011 led the NCAA Division II in returns for touchdowns. He also coached a pair of all-conference receivers during the past three seasons in Russellville under coaches Steve Mullins and Raymond Monica. Prior to returning to Arkansas Tech in 2011, Shipp served two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Arkansas State under Steve Roberts. With the Red Wolves, Shipp helped coach an offense that set nine school records during the 2010 season, and aided the team to a No. 43 national rank and No. 2 Sun Belt Conference rank in total offense (4,841 yards). That season, he worked under then offensive coordinator Hugh Freeze as A-State installed the spread nohuddle offense seen today with Freeze at Ole Miss. Shipp began his coaching career as a student assistant at Arkansas Tech in 2006 and was promoted to graduate assistant for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. During those three seasons, Shipp had his hand in coaching several aspects of the team, including defensive backs, special teams, receivers, quality control and quarterbacks. He also assisted with recruiting during those seasons. The Morrilton, Ark. native played three seasons at Arkansas Tech from 2003-05 as a receiver and was a part of the Wonder Boys’ NCAA Division II playoff team in 2004. He holds a pair of degrees from ATU, a bachelor’s degree in history and political science obtained in 2007 and a master’s degree in college student personnel obtained in 2009. He is married to the former Krystal Carr of Russellville. The two have a daughter Emmy Lou.

ARKANSAS TECH 2021 FOOTBALL JOSH LAWSON @jwlawson1

Defensive Coordinator 3rd Year Alabama (2003) Josh Lawson enters his third year at Arkansas Tech, after spending a pair of seasons at Stephen F. Austin, including his last season as defensive coordinator. In his final year in Nacogdoches, Lawson mentored all-Southland Conference safety Alize Ward, who ranked 17th in the league with 7.2 tackles per game. Aretavious Hendrix and Trenton Gordon were all-Southland Conference honorable mention picks under his tutelage. During Lawson’s first year in Texas’ oldest town, overseeing the Lumberjack linebackers and overseeing kickoffs on special teams, his linebacker corps featured a trio of talented players in junior Ryan Woods and sophomores Anthony Jacobs and Teddy Britton. The three combined for 160 total tackles, including 17 tackles for loss, providing a stout wall in the heart of defensive coordinator Jeff Byrd’s defensive scheme. Lawson’s linebackers played a pivotal role in helping SFA to rank fifth in the league in red zone defense as opponents scored less than 80 percent of time when reaching the Lumberjacks’ 20-yard line. The group also created quarterback pressure and contributed in pass coverage, aiding SFA to allow just 210 passing yards per game in conference play, which was fifthbest in the Southland Conference in that category. Lawson previously spent eight seasons at fellow GAC institution Southern Arkansas, including his last five as the Muleriders’ defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Under Lawson’s guidance, Southern Arkansas saw significant improvement defensively, allowing just 24.4 points per game and 319.9 yards per contest in 2016.

20 20

In his first season as defensive coordinator in 2012, Lawson helped engineer a significant turnaround in the Southern Arkansas’ defensive efforts. The Muleriders ranked at least 50 spots higher in the national rankings in all five major defensive categories from 2011, including ranking sixth nationally in rushing defense per game, a rise of 120 spots. During his time in Magnolia, Arkansas, Lawson also worked with the Muleriders’ linebackers before making the transition to defensive backs prior to the 2015 season. In his eight seasons at Southern Arkansas, Lawson saw over a dozen of his players earn All-Great American Conference honors, including All-American defensive back Don Unamba, who spent time with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams and the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders. Lawson was in charge of recruiting efforts in both the East Texas and Dallas areas for the Muleriders. Prior to his time at Southern Arkansas, Lawson spent two seasons at UAB, working with the Blazers’ linebackers. His two years in Birmingham, Alabama, were preceded by a one-year stint at fellow FCS institution Idaho State of the Big Sky Conference, where he served as the Bengals’ defensive line coach. Lawson also spent one year at Walker High School in Jasper, Alabama, filling the roles of cooffensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. Lawson began his coaching career at Alabama, his alma mater, in 2001, where he was a student assistant coach for two seasons before stepping into a graduate assistant position for the 2003 and 2004 campaigns. While in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Lawson assisted in two top-20 recruiting classes and was a part of the Crimson Tide’s 2001 Independence Bowl and 2004 Music City Bowl teams. A native of Berry, Alabama, Lawson earned both of his degrees from Alabama, achieving his bachelor’s degree in secondary education in 2003, followed by his master’s in sport management in 2004. He is married to the former Meredith Jones.

ARKANSAS TECH 2021 FOOTBALL RYAN TREVATHAN @R_Trevathan

Offensive Coordinator 3rd Year Arkansas State (2011) Ryan Trevathan enters his third year at Arkansas Tech since joining the Arkansas Tech staff in January, 2019 as Wide Receivers Coach. Prior to the 2020 year, Trevathan was promoted to offensive coordinator. He spent two years as offensive coordinator at Pearl River Community College before making his way to Arkansas Tech. Prior to his time at Pearl River, he spent two years as the offensive coordinator at Northeast Mississippi Community College. After his inaugural season in Poplarville, eight offensive Wildcats signed with four-year programs, including offensive linemen Gerald Bell (Troy) and Tyrin Arceneaux (Nicholls State), Jamarcus Holmes (Tusculum College), Tremaine Chatman (Tusculum College), Tyler Harris (North Carolina-Pembroke), receiver Malcolm Staten (Arkansas-Monticello) and running back Caleb Batie (Missouri Southern State). One of PRCC’s biggest success stories in 2017 was the emergence of quarterback Markevion Quinn. The dynamic quarterback didn’t hold a fouryear offer out of high school, but after passing for 943 yards and six touchdowns and running for 879 yards and 17 scores, Quinn signed with Memphis prior to the start of the 2018 season. The Wildcat offense proved to be one of the best in school history with Trevathan’s guidance. PRCC’s 3,822 total yards were the eighthmost in school history, while the team’s 2,399 yards rushing were the most since 1994. Trevathan is a native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and graduated from Jonesboro High in 2007. He was an undergraduate student assistant coach at Arkansas State during his four years at ASU, graduating in Dec. 2011 with a degree in physical education.

He spent three seasons at Ole Miss, serving as a graduate assistant in 2012-13 and working specifically with tight ends before becoming a full staff member in 2014 as a quality control coach. During his time on the Rebel sideline, Ole Miss produced two of its three best offensive seasons in school history, including a record 6,153 yards in 2013. Under Trevathan’s tutelage, Ole Miss saw tight end Evan Engram become an All-SEC and All-American selection before leaving Oxford as a first-round NFL draft pick by the New York Giants. Trevathan then moved on to Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he served as offensive coordinator. During his debut season in Booneville in 2015, Trevathan’s offense averaged 301 yards per game and scored 24 total touchdowns. The Tigers improved drastically in his encore season, averaging 366.1 yards and finding the end zone a total of 31 times. In just two seasons with NEMCC, Trevathan saw 12 offensive players go on to four-year schools, including quarterbacks Mason Cunningham (Liberty) and Kendrick Doss (Jacksonville State), running backs Kenzie Phillips (Mississippi College) and Tiberias Lampkin (Mississippi College), offensive linemen Jo’Quarius Savage (LouisianaMonroe), Ethan Smart (Purdue) and Ryan Baysinger (Arkansas-Monticello), tight end Ross Painter (Arkansas State), and receivers Jaylon Fair (Oklahoma-Panhandle), Joe Horn, Jr. (Missouri Western), Donta Armstrong (West Alabama) and Khalid Kornegay (Regina). Trevathan and his wife, Morgan, have four children, Kaden, Hudson, Ellie and Rowan.

Corbin was previously a member of the Wonder Boys staff in 2005, serving as wide receivers coach. After overseeing the strength and conditioning efforts for the Wonder Boys in the 2013 season, Corbin was elevated to co-Defensive Coordinator in 2014. The defensive performance in 2014 was stellar, as the Wonder Boys held opponents to 344 yards per game and saw three players - Logan Genz, Wesley McKinney, and Shai Kobayashi earn all-Region honors, while Kobayashi picked up an all-America nod. Tech continued its impressive defensive performance in 2015, as Tech was the No. 2 defense in the Great American Conference, allowing a paltry 21.8 points per game. Genz earned honorable mention all-America squads after being named Defensive Player of the Year. Demetris Ford also earned an all-region honor. 2016 saw the Wonder Boys finish fourth in the conference in scoring defense, allowing less than 25 points per game. Tech also led the conference in opponent fourth-down percentage (27.3) and ranked second in sacks (24). 2 22

The 2018 Wonder Boys saw three all-conference picks in first team selections KJ Reid and Cua’ Rose as well as honorable mention pick Andrew Craig. Tech boasted the GAC’s fifth-ranked scoring defense, surrendering 24.5 points per contest. Prior to returning to Tech, Corbin spent 20092012 as the defensive line coach/recruiter at Stephen F. Austin State University, guiding a unit that recorded more sacks over his three-year tenure than any other unit in Division I. The Lumberjacks won back-to-back Southland Conference titles, and during his tenure finished among the nation’s top-20 in tackles for loss and top-10 in sacks. Before joining the SFA staff, Corbin spent two seasons as a defensive coach at Northwestern State. Northwestern State posted similar numbers leading the SLC in four defensive categories. The Demons finished the year tops in the league in total defense, pass defense, opponent first downs and opponent third downs. ARKANSAS TECH 2021 FOOTBALL SPORTS MEDICINE It was Sept. 21, 1968, when Dr. Stan Teeter first stood on the sideline of an Arkansas Tech football game as the school’s official team doctor. Prior to his retirement in December of 2000, Teeter spent 154 Saturday afternoons or nights on the same sideline – a span of some 33 years. He examined some 6,000 student-athletes over the years and played a major role in keeping those young men and women healthy. As a result, Tech’s athletic teams won 48 conference championships during his time as team doctor. Teeter practiced in Russellville between 1965-2000 and he was a full-time family practitioner with Millard-Henry Clinic. Before joining Millard-Henry Clinic, he served five years as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy.

Dr. Stanley Teeter Team Doctor Emeritus

Before his retirement in 2000, Teeter was selected by the readers of The Courier as “Best Doctor” in the Arkansas River Valley. In 2009, Arkansas Tech University dedicated the Stanley D. Teeter Training Center in the Hull Building after Dr. Teeter.

Under Davis, Arkansas Tech has claimed three regularseason conference titles and one conference tournament championship, including both championships in the inaugural year of the Great American Conference. The Suns have also recorded a 2-2 record in NCAA regional play. Davis has coached 50 all-conference picks, two conference player of the year selections and five conference freshman of 44 44

“Your Health Means Everything”, that’s why we offer a newly remodeled mammography suite with a comfortable setting, state of the art 3D mammography, and one on one patient care. Here at SMRMC we have two radiographers registered in mammography and breast ultrasound as part of our team. What does that mean for you??? You can have your initial screening mammography AND any diagnostic follow-up imaging necessary performed at the same facility, by the same familiar face. Screening results will be available for your physician the same day. During any follow-up imaging, we have a radiologist on-site that reviews the imaging, if an ultrasound is needed, that “same familiar face” is able to perform your study in the same suite, that very day, and you will receive verbal results BEFORE you leave! If you have never been a patient here before, NO WORRIES, our staff can request your prior medical records for you. “Saint Mary’s continues to serve the community with the Best of the Best in 3D mammography and breast ultrasound”. www.ArkansasTechSports.com | @ ATUFootball | #FightOn | #LinkItUp
