The Intersection Festival

ATYP Education 2021 09

The Intersection Festival Where writing, performance and education meet.

The Intersection Festival is a competition open to schools Australia-wide, encouraging teachers and students to create original performances of new short plays.

ATYP will present 20 brand new works written by 20 of the country’s most talented young writers for you to share with your students. The festival is suggested for Year 9-11* students and can be taught as an Acting, Scripted Drama, Australian Theatre or Small Screen Drama unit.

Simply select the scenes that best suit your class, then rehearse and submit your best five scenes, to go in the running to perform them live at the showcase event in Sydney, for your chance to win the Intersection Trophy and video equipment for your school. Committed to offering creative solutions for the classroom while amplifying the voices of emerging playwrights and the skills of young actors, ATYP is delighted to launch The Intersection Festival in 2021.

We are excited to partner with you on the world premiere of these new works, and pleased to announce Currency Press will publish the most popular 10 plays with original cast lists from participating schools.

*Some Intersection short plays would be suitable for Year 8 students.

Once again, ATYP has provided a wonderful springboard and reference point for our HSC Drama Students. Obviously, for those planning to present Performance for their IP, the production serves to inspire; but all benefit, creatively and personally, from the experience of interesting, engaging, relevant live theatre for and by people of their own age.
