Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center
“There was a tremendous amount of thought and careful planning that went into this $40 million, 142,000-squarefoot facility that is being constructed in the center of our engineering campus. When the Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center opens in Spring 2019, Auburn will undoubtedly have one of the most attractive engineering campuses and impactful learning environments anywhere. While planning this facility, we traveled to many of the best engineering colleges in the country to see what they were offering and we held focus groups and planning sessions with our faculty, staff, alumni and, most importantly, our students. We listened carefully to what our students need to help them grow and become professionals and to make sure this facility would help deliver on our promise to provide the best student-centered engineering experience in America.”
– Christopher B. Roberts
Dean, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering

Main Floor Grand Atrium
Located inside the main entrance to the Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center, this expansive space will serve as the front door to the college and the main thoroughfare for engineering students of all disciplines. This open area will also serve as the entrance to suites housing vital college programs and services such as recruiting and scholarships, academic advising, tutoring and learning, professional development and corporate relations, and the Engineering Academic Excellence Program for underrepresented students. The atrium will also provide ample space for students to study and enjoy a meal from the adjoining café.
Career Development & Corporate Relations Suite
Students will be enabled to actively explore career opportunities and professional development opportunities in the engineering profession. Through one-on-one mentoring with professionals, organized field trips to observe engineering in action and group discussions with practicing engineers, this program will help students align with a field of engineering that fits their interests and goals. This office will also create a “one-stop shop” for students to investigate cooperative education and internships, as well as full-time job placement. Resources such as company presentations, interview seminars and recruiting events, as well as regular engagement with industry and professional schools, will educate students about their pre- and post-graduation options. Additionally, students can engage directly with companies to improve placement rates with top-ranked corporations.
Engineering Academic Excellence Program Suite
The Engineering Academic Excellence Program enhances the recruitment and retention of underrepresented engineering students within the college. This program has assisted the college in growing our diversity initiatives, especially in the areas of academic success, financial awards, recruiting, and career mentoring. The Academic Excellence Program also provides an Engineering Summer Enrichment Program, a living learning community, collaborative groups, interactive labs and tutoring, professional development, career counseling, co-ops and internship placement.
Tutoring & Learning Suite
A vital component of this new center will be our Tutoring and Learning Suite. Every student is more apt to reach his or her full potential in the challenging and rigorous engineering curriculum with regular, on-demand academic assistance. Ready access to tutoring can significantly improve the academic performance and success of students. This center will provide tutoring at all levels through a formalized program utilizing exceptional teaching assistants.
Academic Advising Suite
Providing guidance to students as they choose a major, determine class load and make plans for a specific course of study is critically important in the early stages of their college career. Dependable, ongoing access to advisers increases the likelihood that students will seek guidance and adhere to an individualized academic plan.
Recruiting & Scholarship Suite
The ability to attract the finest students begins with focused, intentional recruiting efforts at both the undergraduate and graduate level. This is often the college’s first opportunity to make an impression. Concerted, individual recruiting enables us to bring high-achieving students to Auburn who strengthen our instructional and research programs. Scholarships reward and attract strong performing students, and in many cases are critical for engineering students with financial need.
Cupola Engineering Society Office
The Cupola Engineering Ambassadors promote, unify and serve the college by giving prospective student and alumni tours of our campus, and by hosting events and socials for current students. Cupola students also serve as student liaisons to alumni councils and promote engineering to local children during camps.
Director & Staff Offices
Conveniently located near the corresponding service areas, staff offices will provide ready access for students needing services or support.
Group Study Room
This spacious group study room will be outfitted with the latest technologies and writable surfaces for large group collaboration.
Study Spaces and Team Rooms
Numerous study areas will be outfitted with the latest technologies and writable surfaces for small group collaboration.
Pavilions
Located on the northeast and northwest exterior corners of the building, these open, outdoor areas will provide students and visitors a beautiful place to study, visit and enjoy a meal with friends.
Café
Located on the northeast end of the main floor, the café will offer students access to meals, snacks and beverages to enjoy in between classes or during late-night study and project team sessions.
