As the proud home of Auburn University, the City of Auburn works closely with the university to make Auburn the best it can be. Through partnerships in areas like public safety, athletics and economic development, you’ll find the university’s impact extends far PHOTO: CITY OF AUBURN beyond the resounding “War Eagle” you’ll hear walking down the street. Downtown Auburn is the thriving center of Auburn. It’s where we celebrate our victories. It’s where our community comes together for parades and block parties. And it’s where we meet our friends and family to shop and grab a bite to eat. We invite you to try the famous lemonade at Toomer’s Drugs as you explore all our downtown has to offer.
►BEYOND THE HEART OF AUBURN, YOU’LL FIND PLENTY OF OTHER REASONS TO LOVE IT. OUR CITY SCHOOLS ARE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR THE EXCELLENT EDUCATION OFFERED, AND OUR MANY PARKS ARE THE PERFECT PLACES TO RELAX, GO FOR A JOG OR ENGAGE IN SOME FRIENDLY COMPETITION. OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY IS THRIVING, CONSISTENTLY LANDING US ON THE MILKEN INSTITUTE’S ANNUAL LIST OF THE BEST PERFORMING SMALL CITIES. All of this recognition has brought more and more people to our
village. We expect the 2020 U.S. Census to show that we’re a bustling community of over 70,000. And even though our numbers
are increasing, our small-town charm hasn’t suffered for it. That close-knit feeling you get when walking downtown or through the streets of our neighborhoods is what many still cherish about our community and a large part of why so many of our residents continue to build their lives here. But as our growth continues, we’re keeping up by expanding our schools, building new parks and recreation facilities, growing the capacity of our infrastructure and making sure your local government is equipped to serve you. This year we’ll see the completion of a new park with dog parks and trails, and we’ll celebrate the opening of our new state-of-the-art Public Safety Center. In 2020, the Auburn community had a chance to come together as never before as we grappled with the impact of the COVID-19 worldwide health crisis. But more than anything, what that showed us was when it comes to overcoming adversity and binding together in tough times, the Auburn family is there for each other with support, encouragement, determination and the skills to carry us through. Again, we’re glad you’re here, and we hope you see why Auburn is a great place to visit and an even better place to call home.
Ron Anders, Mayor
A MESSAGE FROM DR. JAY GOGUE
PRESIDENT, AUBURN UNIVERSITY Welcome to Auburn, home of Auburn University. We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with the cities of Auburn and Opelika for many years, and we work hard together to promote our great community and its residents. From academic endeavors to athletic events, Auburn has something that appeals to everyone. Our university is a world-class academic institution, as reflected in our land-grant mission of research, instruction and outreach. The Auburn undergraduate experience is second to none, and our students were recently recognized as the “Happiest Students” in the nation by The Princeton Review. We have been voted the top university in the state by publications such as U.S. News & World Report, Forbes and Money. The university strives each day to enhance the lives of our residents and those around the state of Alabama. Our commitment to service was rewarded in February 2020 with a
renewal of the Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification. Our faculty are also dedicated to improving lives through research. We are proud to be listed as a Carnegie R1 institution –– a classification reserved for universities engaged in “very high research activity.” Both of these prestigious distinctions recognize Auburn’s role in solving society’s most pressing problems.
►CULTURALLY, OUR UNIVERSITY IS ENGAGING WITH CITY RESIDENTS THROUGH OUR NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, WHICH FEATURES WORLD-RENOWNED PERFORMANCES, HIGH ENERGY CONCERTS AND POPULAR BROADWAY PRODUCTIONS. THE JULE COLLINS SMITH MUSEUM OF FINE ART IS ONE OF OUR STATE’S LEADING ART MUSEUMS, OFFERING THE COMMUNITY A DIVERSE LINEUP OF COMPELLING EXHIBITIONS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING. In addition, Auburn is home to the best gameday experience in college athletics, and our student-athletes and devoted fans show the world the special spirit that is found here. Auburn is a city where you can grow professionally, raise a family or retire. Whether you are making this your new home, or just visiting, we hope you enjoy your time on the Plains.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY ►AUBURN UNIVERSITY IS A PLACE WHERE THE PRACTICAL WORLD MEETS INSPIRATION, AND WHERE AMBITION MEETS SPIRIT, PRIDE, CHARM AND RICH TRADITIONS. It is one of the largest universities in the South, one of the few to carry the torch as a land-, sea- and space-grant university and consistently ranks among the top schools in the nation. Auburn ranked No. 1 for “happiest students in the nation” and as a “Best Value College,” according to The Princeton Review. The university was also named No. 1 in the state of Alabama by U.S. News & World Report and Forbes, and is the No. 1 best value in Alabama, according to Money. Auburn offers a place for everyone — from our talented students, to our dynamic faculty and anyone who connects with the city. It provides a unique blend of arts and applied science, and evolves with the ever-changing needs of our society today, while honoring the past and tradition that has come to define the institution for generations.

Auburn’s impact is not just felt locally, but is recognized on the global stage with the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education designation as an “R1” institution, which is reserved for doctoral universities with a “very high research activity” level. In addition, Auburn earned the Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification, which recognizes the scope, quality and impact of its outreach mission through institutional engagement in the community. The fall 2019 enrollment was 30,460. Students can choose from more than 150 undergraduate degree options in 12 colleges and schools, plus degrees at the graduate and doctoral levels. The academic opportunities are endless.
►AND WHILE THESE NUMBERS ARE IMPRESSIVE, IT IS THE PERSONAL CONNECTIONS MADE BY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF ALUMNI WORLDWIDE THAT MAKE THE UNIVERSITY UNIQUE AND PROUDLY REFERRED TO AS THE AUBURN FAMILY. Auburn has awarded approximately 300,000 degrees in agriculture, architecture, business, education, engineering, forestry, human sciences, liberal arts, nursing, pharmacy, sciences and mathematics and veterinary medicine. The university offers doctoral degrees
through its Graduate School. Prospective students can be confident knowing Auburn offers endless resources and tools to ensure academic success. With a strong reputation in helping freshmen thrive by providing a supportive campus environment, students report higher satisfaction with their overall academic experience than those at peer institutions. Based on a survey of recent graduates, 92% indicate they would choose Auburn again and 97% say their Auburn education has enhanced their opportunity for future career advancement. The university not only prepares students for life following graduation –– it is a major contributor to the economy. Auburn had an overall $5.6 billion economic impact on the state of Alabama in 2018-19 and created nearly 27,000 jobs, in addition to direct employment, according to a recent self-study. Area residents enjoy the benefits of a university in a small town, including visiting the Draughon Library, with more than 4.7 million volumes; the Telfair Peet Theatre; the state’s only university art museum –– the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art; and the Gogue Performing Arts Center, which showcases premiere concerts, Broadway shows and musical arts programs. It’s not surprising to see people taking a simple stroll or bike ride around campus or in the Davis Arboretum, attending athletic events; and, of course, tailgating with a sea of orange- and blue-clad fans during fall football Saturdays. For the more than 30,000 students who come here from all 50 states and 106 foreign countries, Auburn cultivates a diverse, inclusive and vibrant experience. You’re invited to visit Auburn University, where you’ll be welcomed by a rousing “War Eagle!” from family –– the Auburn Family. For more information, visit auburn.edu.

AUBURN RESEARCH
AUBURN.EDU/RESEARCH Auburn University was recognized as a Carnegie R1 institution in 2018, placing it among the nation’s elite research universities. Auburn earned this distinction by reaffirming its commitment to bring practical solutions to our communities and world.
►FROM BASIC SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY TO THE REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS EXTENDING FROM FUNDAMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS, AUBURN IS SOLVING PROBLEMS AND IMPROVING LIVES. With a renewed focus on health sciences research, Auburn continues to grow its Health Sciences Sector, with the Harrison School of Pharmacy’s Pharmaceutical Research Building and the School of Nursing building. Both facilities are located near the
Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), which will bolster interdisciplinary collaborations among VCOM medical students and Auburn nursing and pharmacy students. Auburn is also dedicated to fighting devastating diseases, including GM1 gangliosidosis, which is a fatal childhood disorder that progressively destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Auburn is proud to be part of the first clinical trial of a gene therapy treatment that is being administered to children at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Auburn’s Center for Cyber and Homeland Security is a nonpartisan think tank that works to develop innovative strategies to address current and future threats to the U.S. The center convenes experts and practitioners for executive-level events, publishes policy-relevant analysis and provides expert testimony to Congress on critical issues and challenges related to cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, counterterrorism and homeland security. The center is part of the McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security, and drives the policy component of the institute’s work. Six Auburn professors have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors, and the university continues to commercialize its discoveries to benefit the public. In 2019, option and license revenue for Auburn inventions totaled over $1.3 million.
Established in 2007, Auburn Research Park is a 171-acre, mixed-use entrepreneurial research and business campus focusing on technology/knowledge-based businesses, research centers and university research facilities. It is home to the Auburn Business Incubator, the Tiger Cage Accelerator and a growing health sciences complex. The work conducted at the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Laboratory is helping top-tier companies successfully inventory and track products by using wireless systems to send data from microchip tags on items back to receivers that provide detailed, real-time product information to managers. Specializing in retail, supply chain and manufacturing settings, experts at the lab develop new inventory control applications working with retailers such as Amazon, Target and Saks Fifth Avenue to improve inventory predictability, increase delivery speed and lower costs. The RFID Lab is also partnering with Delta Air Lines to establish an aviation sensor ID bay where students will research and further develop RFID technology. Auburn and NASA have signed a second Space Act Agreement to collaborate on the development of wireless sensor and communication technologies, following a prior agreement related to additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing. The agreements are designed to advance STEM disciplines –– science, technology, engineering and mathematics –– by engaging students and teachers in NASA’s

AUBURN TRADITIONS WAR EAGLE
War Eagle is both a salutation and a battle cry. It is not a mascot or nickname. “War Eagle” has become a way for the Auburn Family to greet and identify with each other all over the world. It can be heard before kickoff when Auburn fans join together for a loud “War Eagle!” as the eagle soars inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
AUBIE
Aubie is the mascot of the Auburn Tigers. He is a spirit leader and goodwill ambassador for the university. With nine wins, he has won more UCA National Champion mascot titles than any other university mascot. Aubie was named the 2014 Capital One Mascot of the Year and was the first college mascot inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006.
EAGLE FLIGHT
The Eagle Flight is one of the most treasured gameday traditions in all of college football. Fifteen minutes before each home football game kickoff, the eagle takes flight inside the stadium for what ESPN has proclaimed the best pregame tradition in the SEC. Even visiting fans are captivated as the eagle soars around to the thundering “Waaarrrr Eagle!” of fans. The eagles promote wildlife conservation as a part of the education initiatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Southeastern Raptor Center. The USFWS permits the raptor center to house eagles and use them on hundreds of educational presentations each year, including Auburn’s home football games.
TIGER TRAIL
Tiger Trail is a series of plaques honoring Auburn’s greatest athletes, coaches and administrators, located on the sidewalks of downtown Auburn. A new class of honorees is inducted each year to this prestigious path, which includes more than 130 of Auburn’s athletic elite. An interactive map of the Tiger Trail can be found at webgis.auburnalabama.org/TigerTrailViewer. 8 I W WW. AU B U R N C H AMBER.COM
TOOMER’S CORNER
Toomer’s Corner is where fans head to celebrate after a big Auburn athletics win. The rolling of Toomer’s Corner at Auburn was named in 2018 as the nation’s “Best Sports Tradition” by the USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest. The intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue is where Auburn’s campus and the city of Auburn meet. It’s also home to the famed Toomer’s Drugs, where the tradition of rolling the corner is said to have begun. The local drug store had the only telegraph in the city, so when employees received news of an Auburn victory at an away game, they would throw the ticker tape onto the powerlines of the intersection. The tradition then changed to throwing toilet paper into the trees.
TIGER WALK
Tiger Walk is a tradition that began in the early 1960s. Two hours before kickoff of every home football game, thousands of Auburn fans line Donahue Drive to cheer on the team as they walk to Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tiger Walk is such a major part of gameday activities that it’s listed on the players’ gameday itinerary. Fans often carry on the tradition at away games and bowl games.
Pep rallies hosted by the Student Government Association and the city of Auburn are held at Toomer’s Corner during football season. Thousands of students, faculty and fans fill the downtown streets to cheer the Auburn Tigers. Encouraging spirit within the Auburn community and campus, these pep rallies boost enthusiasm and stir Auburn pride in the heart of each member of the Auburn Family.

Auburn was officially founded in the winter of 1836 when Judge John Harper set out with his family and other settlers to build a town intended to serve as the religious and educational center of the area. In 1839, the Alabama Legislature approved incorporating Auburn. After two years of growth and prosperity, Auburn began vying for a Methodist male college. On Feb. 1, 1856, the Legislature incorporated the East Alabama Male College. In 1859, the college opened its doors as a private liberal arts institution affiliated with the Methodist Church. The college was forced to close its doors in 1861 when most students joined the Confederate Army, but reopened Samford Hall as a hospital from 1864-1866. In 1866, East Alabama Male College opened once again, but struggled financially. In 1868, the Legislature decided to create a public land-grant college to offer specific training to help Alabama rebuild its war-torn state. Though the trustees would have preferred not to give up their college, the state had land-grant money and no campus and East Alabama Male College had a campus, but no money. On Feb. 26, 1872, Lee County Legislator Sheldon Toomer wrote the bill making Auburn the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. Through the years, the institution has had four official names: (185672) East Alabama Male College, (1872-99) Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, (1899-1960) Alabama Polytechnic Institute and (1960-present) Auburn University.
Why do we know Auburn so well?

The preserve is where leisure meets learning, featuring six miles of trails over 120 acres, an amphitheater, pavilion, fire pit, nature playground, restrooms and several areas designed for nature exploration. KPNC strives to reconnect the community to the natural world through educational programs, hikes, camps, trail runs and other activities throughout the year and is available to reserve for special events and parties. Kreher Preserve is open seven days a week from sunrise until sunset. No pets. No bikes. No admission fee.
The Donald E. Davis Arboretum is dedicated to the display of native woody plants of the southeastern United States. The 14-acre natural setting is supported by the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University. It is open year-round from sunrise to sunset and provides visitors a place for reflection and relaxation as they stroll along meandering paths. The scenery is reflective of unique habitats found in Alabama, such as rocky hillsides, stream bottoms, pond edges, salt-spray influenced sand dunes, pitcher plant bogs, and the Black Belt prairie. In the spring, visitors will observe the blooms of more than 1,000 native Alabama azaleas, the largest collection in the state, as well as a multitude of native wildflowers. In addition to native plants, the arboretum is dedicated to implementing sustainable practices in the landscape. As a teaching resource for the public, the arboretum offers self-guided learning resources like the Stormwater Tour, which showcases tips for managing stormwater in a landscape. Informational brochures for this tour and other topics, such as locating native trees and shrubs in the facility, are available at the Arboretum Pavilion. The arboretum also functions as an outdoor classroom for university classes and local schools. There is no charge for admission.

AUBURN ATHLETICS AUBURN UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS AUBURNTIGERS.COM
One of the many benefits of life in a college town is an exciting year-round lineup of athletic events for every fan and family to enjoy. A member of the Southeastern Conference, Auburn has 21 NCAA Division I-A athletic teams –– nine men’s and 12 women’s. The university’s teams have claimed 21 national titles, including football, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, equestrian and women’s track and field. Auburn’s athletic teams are known as the Tigers, and the official colors are orange and navy blue. Auburn’s mascot is the beloved Aubie the Tiger. Building on a legacy of athletic prowess, the Auburn Tigers have achieved seven perfect football seasons and won 12 conference championship titles. Three Heisman Trophy winners played for Auburn: quarterback Pat Sullivan in 1971, running back Bo Jackson in 1985 and quarterback Cam Newton in 2010.
JORDAN-HARE IMPROVEMENTS Opened in 2018, the Harbert Family Recruiting Center in the southwest corner of Jordan-Hare Stadium houses a new football locker room, the Tigers Den recruiting lounge, the upscale Tiger Walk Club for fans, recruiting space for Olympic sports and a new press box. The $28 million, 44,000-square-foot multi-story facility tells the story of Auburn’s unrivaled tradition and history. Auburn University is also home to one of the largest video boards in collegiate sports, measuring 190’x57’.

UNIVERSITY HOUSING AUBURN.EDU/HOUSING
University Housing cultivates and supports living environments rooted in tradition with a commitment to providing well-maintained residence halls that are safe, welcoming and inclusive. Housing staff foster holistic student development to prepare residents for success in a global society. Living on campus provides a unique experience for students to be in the heart of campus and make friends with fellow Auburn students. On-campus living also comes with community standards. Before your student moves in, encourage them to read the Guide to Residential Living at auburn.edu/housing. Reading it will ensure they are familiar with what items are permissible on campus, safety regulations, roommate discussions and much more. Parents are encouraged to read the guide too. Learning to live with people from diverse backgrounds is a skill that lasts
a lifetime. Encourage your student to talk with their roommate(s) about their preferred hours for quiet, study, sleep and guests. Your student should also discuss developing a cleaning schedule, respecting each other’s property and developing rules for keeping their living space secure. Should conflicts arise, students living on campus should talk with their resident assistant for advice or assistance. For information regarding move-in, download the fall 2020 Move-In guide in the free mobile app, Auburn Guides.
OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING OFFCAMPUSHOUSING. AUBURN.EDU
If living on campus is not for your student, services provided by OffCampus Housing can help them find the perfect place to live. When living off campus, remember leases are signed individually or as a group, and you should be informed of what the rent covers and when the lease ends.

EDUCATION PUBLIC SCHOOLS
AUBURN   CITY SCHOOLS 855 E. SAMFORD AVENUE (334) 887-2100 AUBURNSCHOOLS.ORG As classes resume in the 2020-2021 school year, enrollment in ACS, one of the fastest growing school districts in Alabama, will be approaching 9,000 students. To accommodate these students, there are 13 campuses that make Auburn City Schools (nine elementary schools, two middle schools, one junior high and one high school). As a result of growth, the Auburn City Council voted to commit the city’s 5 mill property tax fund to the school district for school construction, effective with the fiscal year 2016. Project payments from this fund must be voted on by the citizens of Auburn. Most recently, the Auburn citizens authorized payments for the construction of a 2,200 student Auburn High School, which opened in the fall of 2017, and Creekside Elementary School, which opened in the fall of 2018. In May 2018, the Auburn Board of Education approved ACS Facility Master Plan 2028, a 10-year plan addressing the demolition, reconstruction and renovation of buildings and the impact of student growth on facilities capacity. Phase 1 of this plan, which began in the fall of 2018, includes the reconstruction and

demolition of Cary Woods Elementary School and J.F. Drake Middle School, demolition and reconstruction of the gymnasium at East Samford School, and a new elementary school. The complete plan can be found on the school system’s website at www.auburnschools.org. Celebrating diversity, ACS boasts more than 40 different languages spoken in the homes of students. ACS was the first SMART Showcase District in the U.S. with all classrooms having SMART Boards to enhance the learning experience for students and teachers alike.

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
AUBURN.EDU/SCHOLARSHIP Finding and applying for scholarships can be hard work. With the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM), it is much easier. Students can search and apply for scholarships, accept available offers and more. To receive consideration for need-based scholarships each year, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA must be received by the financial aid priority deadline. Students can find AUSOM on My Finances within AU Access. Additional information about AUSOM, including application and submission information, may be found on the Office of University Scholarship’s website at auburn.edu/ausom.

Student Financial Services is home to financial aid, cashiering, billing and account services. Students may view their financial aid requirements and awards on their My Finances page under AU Access. To provide parent access to student financial matters, students must complete the financial release form on their My Finances page of AU Access. In addition to filling out the financial release form, students must make parents or family members an authorized user through eBill to give them access to their billing. It is important to have this conversation with your student prior to the first billing cycle, so you have a clear understanding of who will be making payments on the account. In addition, eBill is the hub to all student bills at Auburn. This includes tuition and mandatory fees, dining plans, residence halls, parking tickets and other miscellaneous charges.

HEALTH CARE EAST ALABAMA MEDICAL CENTER 2000 PEPPERELL PARKWAY, OPELIKA (334) 749-3411 EAMC.ORG Under the leadership of President and CEO Laura Grill, East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) is expanding and improving with each new year.
►LONG CONSIDERED ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO WORK IN THE REGION, EAMC EMPLOYS AROUND 3,500 PEOPLE — SECOND ONLY TO AUBURN UNIVERSITY IN THIS AREA. The medical center opened in 1952 as an 81-bed hospital, but has gone through a number of expansions over the years and currently is licensed for 340 beds (314 acute care beds and 26 skilled nursing beds). The most recent

SPENCER CANCER CENTER 2501 VILLAGE PROFESSIONAL DRIVE, OPELIKA (334) 528-1070 EAMC.ORG/FIND-A-SERVICE/CANCER-CARE In the summer of 2019, EAMC proudly opened the E.L. Spencer, Jr. and Ruth Priester Spencer Cancer Center, located just northwest of EAMC on Village Professional Drive (pictured above). The Spencers donated $2.5 million to the funding of the cancer center construction. Mr. Spencer served on the EAMC Board of Directors from 1982–2008, including the last 18 years as board chairman. The Spencer Cancer Center is almost four times as large as the facility at EAMC that served the community from 1992–2019.
expansion at the main campus occurred in 2006, doubling the south bed tower from four floors to eight floors. This expansion project included the addition of the West Pavilion, which houses the hospital’s 20-bed Intensive Care Unit, 10-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, 10 operating rooms and Cardiac Rehab. More than 150,000 people annually are cared for at EAMC. The Emergency Department cares for more than 50,000 patients annually, and over 2,000 babies are born each year in the hospital’s Women’s and Children’s Center.
►EAMC, WITH FACILITIES IN AUBURN, OPELIKA AND VALLEY, IS BUILDING A FREESTANDING EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AND AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER IN AUBURN’S RESEARCH PARK THAT SHOULD BE COMPLETE IN EARLY 2021. LOCATED OFF OF SHUG JORDAN PARKWAY, THIS NEW FACILITY WILL ALSO HAVE A FULL RANGE OF DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING SERVICES AS WELL AS A FULL-SERVICE PHARMACY. As Lee County has grown, so has East Alabama Medical Center. Added proof of that commitment will occur in 2021 when the hospital improves its services for the youngest in the community by opening a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). EAMC has a second hospital in Valley called EAMC-Lanier. It has 88 acute care beds, a 17-bed acute rehab unit, and a 103-bed nursing home. Also, EAMC operates the Auburn University Medical Clinic and a host of other entities (see eamc.org). Close to 200 physicians are on the active medical staff for EAMC and EAMC-Lanier (in Valley), practicing in 31 different specialties. East Alabama Medical Center is devoted to being a good neighbor and providing quality health care to the residents of Lee and surrounding counties. EAMC has provided health screenings and health education benefits to the community at a cost of more than $1.5 million in the past three years. For the underserved in the community, the hospital writes off around $55 million in charity care and bad debt each year.
AUBURN UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CLINIC 400 LEM MORRISON DRIVE (334) 844-4416 AUBURN.EDU/AUMC Auburn University Medical Clinic is committed to providing a full range of primary care services for students, including diagnostic services for illnesses and injuries, immediate and followup assessment and treatment for illnesses and preventative care services, including immunizations, women’s health services and chiropractic care. Services are provided by appointment. Walk-ins are evaluated and given appointments or seen immediately based on the urgency of the problem or condition. The facility includes laboratory, X-ray and pharmacy services. The clinical staff consists of fully licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, technicians and other support staff. AUBURN UNIVERSITY REGIONAL AIRPORT AUOAIRPORT.COM
The Auburn University Regional Airport is a public use facility serving the local community — owned and maintained by Auburn University. The airport offers excellent customer service, quality performance and efficient facilities. The 26,000-square-foot terminal, which opened in 2010, includes a flight planning room, meeting space, board room, pilots’ lounge, offices and room to grow. The airport has excellent instrument approaches, including an approach lighting system. An aircraft maintenance hangar and aviation education facility represent the newest airport additions. This facility, the Delta Air Lines Aviation Education Building, was funded in part by gifts from the Delta Air Lines Foundation and the Jacobson Family Foundation. In the future, the airport has plans for a runway rehabilitation, aircraft apron expansion and additional hangars. With these improvements, the Auburn University Regional Airport is set to be an even more effective tool for economic development in the region.
AUBURN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 144 TICHENOR AVENUE (334) 501-7270 AUBURNALABAMA.ORG/ED
INDUSTRIAL GROWTH Auburn’s industrial base is built around small- to mid-sized value-added technologybased manufacturing and research firms. Auburn has three technology parks and one industrial park where the main areas of focus include aviation/aerospace components, filtration parts, power transmission parts, engines and generators, specialty plastics packaging, wireless technologies and automotive products including: aluminum wheels, axles, driveshafts, engine parts, various plastics, solenoid valves, textiles, and aluminum and metal parts. As part of the city’s commitment to industrial development, the Auburn Center for Developing Industries (ACDI) was designed to give the city’s small business entrepreneurs
a nurturing environment during their early years or during a transition to the Auburn community. ACDI tenants share a wide range of office facilities and services, including automated office equipment, secretarial support services, maintenance, utilities and telecommunication equipment. One of the first three business incubators funded by the state of Alabama, ACDI has enjoyed great success and has expanded its facilities twice.
COMMERCIAL GROWTH
Also supporting the economy in Auburn and helping the city to prepare for the future is the Auburn Training Connection (ATC). The ATC, a joint partnership between the city of Auburn and community leaders from industry, education and government, complements the Auburn Economic Development Department and is dedicated to quality workforce development in our community. The ATC ensures that our growing industry base is supplied with a skilled workforce by partnering with manufacturers to identify and meet workforce needs and assimilating Auburn High School students and citizens into hightech manufacturing careers.
The creation of technology-based startups is an important pillar of the city of Auburn’s economic development strategy and an initiative has been established to focus on entrepreneurship and technology. By providing resources and programming for entrepreneurs and aspiring tech startups, the city strives to improve the health of the entrepreneurial ecosystem as well as further the growth and development of technologybased companies in Auburn.
Driven by the continued population growth in East Alabama and expanding tourism and travel marketing, Auburn continues to experience steady commercial growth.

For more than a decade, Auburn Research Park has been driving innovation –– from launching start-ups to supporting mature, knowledge and tech-based companies. As the southern gateway to the Auburn University campus, the park’s research and entrepreneurial environment serves to connect business with award-winning faculty expertise and talented students eager to gain realworld experience. Big Blue Marble Academy joined the park ecosystem in early 2019, providing much-needed early child education and daycare services not just to campus, but to the community as well. Big Blue Marble is a globally themed child care facility with year-round care for children ages infant to preschool, as well as after school care. Offering a rich variety of learning experiences, Big Blue Marble’s curriculum focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as immersive language programs in Spanish, French and Mandarin for all children. Opening in September 2020, the Auburn Research and Innovation Center is a 100,000-square-foot, $40 million investment in the park. This five story, mixed-use facility will be home to Auburn University’s vice president for research and economic development, a student accelerator, a business incubator, public meeting space, a café and a range of commercial clients. This facility has been designed to foster creative collisions between and among the many gifted minds and thought-leaders who inhabit Auburn Research Park and the surrounding community. East Alabama Medical Center is joining the park community in early 2021 with an 88,000-squarefoot, $35 million health sciences center that will house a free-standing emergency department, an ambulatory surgery center, as well as health science and medical research units. East Alabama Medical Center’s presence in the park creates opportunities for internships and clinical research, and helps serve the medical needs of Auburn’s growing population. The Auburn metropolitan area, which includes Lee County and Opelika, is the fastest-growing region in Alabama outside of Huntsville. It is growing four times faster than any other area in the state with a predicted population of 180,000 by the year 2025. Corresponding growth in Auburn Research Park today is part of a larger strategy to meet needs and contribute to the economy of our energetic and ever-expanding community.

TRANSPORTATION AUBURN UNIVERSITY TRANSPORTATION TIGER TRANSIT
AUBURN.EDU/TIGERTRANSIT Tiger Transit provides safe and reliable service to and from Auburn University. It is a popular mode of transportation for Auburn students who have free, unlimited access with a valid student ID, but it is also available at no cost to university faculty and staff for on-campus routes. Tiger Transit does not operate during home football games or university holidays. A night transit service to off-campus locations is offered from 6:15-10 p.m. (fall and spring semesters) and from 5:15-9 p.m. (summer semester). The night transit off-campus route is one-way and will not board passengers for return trips to campus or for other Tiger Transit destinations. The campus security shuttle is operated by the Department of Campus Safety and Security and offers a safe ride to and from oncampus locations between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., seven days a week while classes are in session, except during home football game evenings and official university holidays. To obtain service, call (334) 844-7400.

LYFT RIDESHARE PROGRAM Auburn University Transportation Services has partnered with Lyft to provide students a new resource for safe rides home during the nighttime hours when class is in session. The Auburn Lyft Late Night Smart Ride program offers currently enrolled students up to a $10 discount on rides within the university-designated service areas. The Student Center Tiger Transit station (Heisman Circle) pick-up location will operate Monday through Friday from 8-10 p.m. The second pick-up location between South Gay Street and Wilmore Drive (Toomer’s Corner) will be in effect Thursday through Saturday between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. The service will end at 3 a.m. on Sunday. This program is only available for currently enrolled Auburn University students.
DRIVER INFORMATION DRIVER’S LICENSE
New residents have 30 days after moving to obtain an Alabama driver’s license. If you have a valid, out-of-state license, you only have to take an eye test and show your Social Security card. If you do not have a license, you will also have to take a written exam and a road test. Tests are $5 and a four-year license costs $36.25. A driver’s license is valid for four years from the date of purchase.
