THE NEW ‘NORM’? 16th March 2020. A date that will inevitably go down in history. A date which marked the beginning of our Country’s lockdown. This date marked the true beginning of the unknown. We are 156 days into the Covid-19 pandemic since the day our Prime Minister concluded that the UK would begin a journey, a journey in which each UK Citizen would embark on and would in turn be individually affected in some way. During these last few months, the buying habits and priorities of ours as a nation have changed significantly. The way we work, shop, live, socialise, interact and above all, our own state of mind. But are we at a stage where this is the new ‘norm?’ Property auctions are a tried and tested method for buying and selling of property and land all over the UK. Having been around for centuries this concept of selling has become a wellrecognised method of sale and becoming more available to individuals who are already on the open market.
Auctioneers throughout the UK have had no choice but to resort to online only auctions due to government restrictions, some being prepared and others having to postpone and even cancel their auctions. But the success of some has resulted in auction houses questioning the operation of their auctions moving forward. How long and to what extent will traditional ballroom auctions exist? Pressured by routine, work commitments and busy social lives, we live in a world where online presence is everything. Auction companies must meet the ever-changing needs of their clients and by having the option and system in place for clients to bid live on internet on their chosen property, we open up a whole new service which not only satisfies the client’s needs but at the same time reduces the fear of buying properties online.
With traditional auctions all over the UK inviting investors, landlords, developers and anyone inbetween to the auction room, these property events have always proved a huge success and have in turn made their own market within the property world. But times change. We as a nation have learnt to adapt to these unfamiliar times and although we are fairly traditional beings with preconceived notions in many facets of life, this global pandemic has given us no choice but to acclimatise to this new ‘norm.’ We open a bank account online, we buy cars and we even book holidays using our phones and laptops, so why not buy property?
