WELCOME
Our prolonged intermission is OVER! After a long 17 months, Kentucky Performing Arts is re-opening all our venues and welcoming artists and patrons back to live performances. Thank you to all in our community who stood by our artists, our nonprofit arts organizations, and our team members as we navigated this incredible challenge. You proved how important the arts are to us individually, and to our community, and we proved just how resilient our arts community is. While our stages were dark, the arts continued on. We came to you virtually, in the streets, and in public parks. Finding innovative ways to stay connected and create moments of happiness during a very tough time. While finding creative ways to bring the power of the performing arts to you during the shutdown, we were also working diligently to ready our facilities for reopening. Working in partnership with Norton Healthcare, we have implemented a number of COVID safety measures to ensure the safest possible environment for our patrons, artists, and staff. In addition to stringent and thorough cleaning and disinfecting, we have installed touchless faucets in restrooms, MERV 13 filters and ionizers in our venues, and of course, hand sanitizer is available throughout our buildings. We continue to follow local, state, and CDC safety guidelines and are ready to adjust our policies as needed. The best way to stay on top of our evolving safety protocols is to scan the QR code or visit the web link below. There is something special about coming together in person for the shared joy and meaning found in live performance. That is what we are celebrating tonight – a return to joy! And there are many more celebrations coming to The Kentucky Center, the Brown Theatre, and Old Forester’s Paristown Hall. I encourage you to visit our website, KentuckyPerformingArts.org, and exploring exciting and diverse programming gracing our stages this season. We thank you for being here tonight and look forward to seeing you again soon. Enjoy the show!

band, which he accompanies (he is an accomplished pianist and organist). He started his career at the Stardome Comedy Club and now hosts Karaoke there every Monday. The club sold out every week for over a year until March 2020 and Karaoke at the Stardome has become the place to be in Birmingham to see Rickey host this incredibly fun evening. Rickey has recorded eight best-selling albums, including iTunes #1 best-selling comedy album, Rickey Smiley: Prank Calls Number 6. Smiley has hosted BET’s Open Casket Sharp and Comic View, and has appeared on Showtime At The Apollo, Uptown Comedy Club, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Snaps. “With the distinct ability to take everyday observations and turn them into comedic gold, Rickey is one of the few ‘clean’ comics amongst the upper echelon of contemporary comedians.” Rickey joined forces with Radio One owned television network, TV One, as the star, executive producer and namesake of his own top rated docu-series, Rickey Smiley For Real. Now in its fifth season, the series features the balancing act of a working radio host, comedian, business mogul, and philanthropist with the joys and pains of being a single father of four.
In addition to comedy, Rickey is a connoisseur in the kitchen, and his skills in both arenas are featured in TV One’s new digital comedy series Cooking Up Comedy. He keeps audiences laughing while he presents fresh takes on his favorite mouth-watering recipes. Continuing to grow his fan base, Rickey’s arresting natural talent is best demonstrated in his major feature film roles in urban classics including All About the Benjamins and Friday After Next, along with his most recent starring turn in the hit romantic comedy Baggage Claim. Rickey hails from Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Woodlawn High School and went on to attend college at Alabama State University in Montgomery. He is an esteemed and honored member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Band fraternity.

JO KOY - JUST KIDDING WORLD TOUR Sunday, September 19, 2021 • 7:30pm • The Brown Theatre
As one of today’s premiere stand-up comics Jo Koy has come a long way from his modest beginnings performing at a Las Vegas coffee house. The comedian, who pulls inspiration from his family, specifically his son, sells-out arenas and theaters across the world. In 2017, Koy broke a record for the most tickets sold by a single artist at 23,000 tickets and 11 sold-out shows at The Neal 10
S. Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu. In response, the mayor’s office in Honolulu proclaimed November 24th as “Jo Koy Day.” The comedian continued his record breaking streak by being the only comedian to sell out 6 shows at The Warfield in San Francisco. He then broke the attendance record at Club Regent Event Centre in Winnipeg with four sold-out shows. In 2019, Koy sold-

ROB SCHNEIDER: I HAVE ISSUES TOUR Sunday, September 26, 2021 • 8:00pm • The Kentucky Center-Bomhard Theater
Rob Schneider is an accomplished actor, comedian, screenwriter and director. A stand-up comic and veteran of the award-winning NBC sketch comedy 12
series Saturday Night Live, Schneider has gone on to a successful career in films, television and continues his word-wide standup tour.
A U D I E N C E
Schneider’s first Netflix comedy special, Asian Momma, Mexican Kids, premiered globally on August 11, 2020. Filmed in February, the special gives viewers a look at Schneider’s family and personal life through hilarious anecdotes. The special ends with a surprise duet performance with Schneider’s daughter Elle King. Born in San Francisco, Schneider’s family is of Filipino and Caucasian descent. His father was Jewish and his mother Catholic. His mixed background has been a common theme in his comedy acts. Schneider started his stand-up career in high school opening for the popular San Francisco band “Head On,” and was a regular guest on local radio. An opening slot for Dennis Miller garnered him an appearance on the HBO’s 13th Annual Young Comedians special also hosted by Miller. The special led him to a coveted position as a writer for SNL in 1988. Schneider swiftly moved from a writer and featured player to a full cast member with a cast that included Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, and the late Chris Farley. After leaving SNL in 1994 Schneider went to roles in film and television including a starring role in the NBC sitcom Men Behaving Badly, and starring roles in the feature films Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Animal, The Hot Chick, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, and The Benchwarmers. Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo has the distinction of being the second highest grossing DVD in the US in 2000. Schneider’s early film roles also include Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Down Periscope. He also co-starred in numerous comedies that were some of the biggest films in the past twenty years, including Grownups, The Waterboy, Little Nicky, The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates, I Now Pronounce
You Chuck and Larry, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and narrated the animated film 8 Crazy Nights. He also recently appeared in Netflix’s The Wrong Missy and the recently released Hubie Halloween. On television Schneider starred in the CBS comedy Rob, loosely based on his real life. In 2015 he produced, directed and starred in Real Rob, that followed his life and co-starred his real-life wife Patricia and daughter Miranda for Netflix. Real Rob was a milestone for the comedian as he starred, directed, produced and financed the entire season. Schneider’s directorial debut was the comedy Big Stan, in which he also starred in the title role. In 2010 he released his first comedy album, Registered Offender, a collection of audio sketches and songs. That year Schneider also revived his stand-up career with an international tour and has continued to tour nationally and internationally ever since. Schneider is currently co-starring in Netflix’s “Home Team,” starring Kevin James and is embarking on his stand-up comedy tour throughout the summer. In addition, Schneider recently completed production on the film Daddy Daughter Trip, which he produced, directed and starred in. The three-time Emmy nominated writer for SNL is having the best time of his life, enjoying raising his 7 and 3 year old girls, Miranda and Madeline, with his wife Patricia. Schneider is also the father of singer/songwriter Elle King. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT There are many causes worthy of your support.
