ENJOY THE SHOW! Welcome to the Kentucky Center and to our fourth show of the season, Miss Saigon. We sure hope you’re enjoying the variety of shows this season and we’re excited to tell you, very soon, about the 2020-2021 season. Watch for the announcement in mid-March. Miss Saigon was brought to life by the creators of Les Misérables, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and additional lyrics for this new Broadway production by Michael Mahler. Composer Schonberg’s inspiration for the development of the musical was a 1975 photograph of a Vietnamese mother seeing her 11 year old daughter off at Tan Son Nhut Air Base – the Republic of Vietnam Air Force facility that was located near Saigon. In the photo, the daughter who is both Vietnamese and American, is being sent to live with her ex-GI father. This is, for the mother, an ultimate sacrifice: to send her child away to America in order to give the child a better life. Since its inception in 1989, Miss Saigon has won over 30 major theatre awards, been performed in 25 countries and translated into 12 different languages. It is one of our most requested shows. Thanks for being here! We’re grateful for support from PNC, the Fund for the Arts, and you! Enjoy the show,
President, PNC Broadway in Louisville

Opera and Mary Poppins currently running in London, Cameron remains the world’s most prolific producer of musicals. His other original productions include Cats, Miss Saigon, Mary Poppins (co-produced with Disney), Little Shop of Horrors, Song and Dance, Tomfoolery, Martin Guerre, The Witches of Eastwick, Five Guys Named Moe and Side By Side By Sondheim. He also reinvented modern versions of Oliver!, Follies, Half a Sixpence, Barnum and My Fair Lady. In 2013, alongside Working Title Films and Universal, Cameron produced the awardwinning film adaptation of Les Misérables, which is the most successful movie ever of an original stage musical. Cameron owns and operates eight historic London theatres which have all been spectacularly refurbished for the 21st century. The Sondheim, formerly the Queen’s, has recently undergone a major restoration and remains the home of the world’s longest running musical, Les Misérables. Music Theatre International, the world’s largest owner of secondary rights of many of the greatest musicals ever written, is now one of Cameron’s companies.
