project summary
SITE CONTEXT
Development of 400+ apartment units, 10,000+ SF commercial space, public hillside climb, and a pocket park a few minutes from downtown Seattle.
Replacing 1940s-era low-income housing units, the project maintained a substantial affordable housing component.
The landscape portion of Blocks 2E and 3 - hill climb, sidewalks, pocket park, and several large on-structure courtyards - was composed of networked public spaces at grade and a variety of seating and circulation spaces at private residential areas.
MY ROLE
During the course of this project my responsibilities included, among others:
• Produce technical documents for entire set following design direction
• Handle Revit modeling and graphics
• Check and contribute to grading solutions at stairs, ramps, plazas, etc.
• Assemble conceptual planting and more detailed on-structure plantings
• Assist with site walks/planting and irrigation punch list

P-patch gardens and a custom bleacher seat make the most of tight circulation. BLOCK 2E (BATIK)
A system of stairs and ramps traverses steep topography at the public hill climb. Individual stoops meet ground floor units on Broadway.
Hill Climb Extension
Stairs and ramps zig-zag between terraced plantings
The Hill Climb Extension continues the work of the 10th Ave Hill Climb in creating a vital pedestrian link between Little Saigon and the Yesler Terrace neighborhood 108 feet above. The desire for a delightful, family-friendly environment combined with steep topography led to a complex network of ADA-accessible ramps, angled stairs, terraced seating, bioretention planters, open spaces, and touchable plantings. As my first major project working in Revit and producing a complete set of technical construction documents, the learning opportunity was tremendous.
BLOCK 3E + ROOF TERRACES
Pocket park under separate permit (also Hewitt)
Block 3E Features:
• Streetcar stop adjacency
• Bioretention planters
• Preserved heritage trees
• Synthetic turf dog area
• Seating at retail plaza
Courtyard design used irregular edges to provide access to/maintain privacy at individual units. South end is raised to accomodate lobby space below.
Roof terraces make use of many large, scatterd pots and overhead structures to frame regional views.

project summary
SITE CONTEXT
An otherwise successful shopping mall in suburban Portland, OR, has an empty anchor tenant store. The owners, with a slate of properties in the southwest and midwest, are looking to replace that struture and adjacent surface parking lots with mixed-use buildings and a publically accessible park-like space. With a high priority on keeping the space flexible for events and programming, the project is also intended to be a regional attractor with a medium-high luxe level of materiality.
MY ROLE
Model management and development, coordinating documents and requirements from collaborating disciplines, and generating graphics. Researched and summarized City of Tigard code to ensure compliance with multiple sets of documents. Used a new workflow to collaborate with the MG2 architects on Lumion models, necessitating early resolution of grading.

project summary
PROJECT CONTEXT
The High Street Trail Conversion project converts 1/3 mile of a neighborhood street, fronting a new housing development, to a linear park. A multimode bike/pedestrian trail with various seating and activity nodes runs the length of the park.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Our project team developed questions, options, graphics, and post-survey feedback analysis for a communitywide survey administered by the City of Issaquah in November 2018. The final site plans delivered to the client and city, concluding the equivalent of the DD phase, were informed by the results of this survey.
MY ROLE
I played an active role in the design and set up of the survey, as well as created all graphics and multi-platform variations, and worked extensively with the PM in final site plan creation.

RESPONSE
Question: How important is it that an amenity from the Small Scale Active category similar to one in the pictures above is included along the High Street multi-use trail?
Section by other
ADDITIONAL REQUESTED AMENITIES, FROM SURVEY COMMENTS: *
• Park should be geared towards older kids/teens and adults (5)
• Measured running trail (2)
• Bocce court (1)
• Calisthenics bar system (1)
• Steps (1)
• Ropes Course (1)
• Park should be geared toward young kids/families (1)
• Disc golf (1)
• Sand area (1)
• Skateboard park (1)
• Basketball court (1)
CONCERNS RAISED, FROM SURVEY COMMENTS:
• Space issues / amount of activity proposed relative to space available (7)
• Lack of use of any features shown besides courts/all-age play (5)
• Maintenance challenges (2)
• Recent removal of fitness stations from Black Nugget Park (2)
• Overly programmed space reducing future flexibility (1)
• Wet weather reducing lawn usefulness (1)
* Parentheses indicate number of times comment was made
CONSULTANT OBSERVATION (Questions 8-10)
• Particularly strong positive response to the “All-Age Play” and “All-Age Playground” photos seems to be an extension of the requests for more preteen- and teen-oriented activities. There was limited preference for traditional playground elements.
• While the images of lawn games shown here did not generate a strongly positive response, several comments in other categories indicated a desire for flexible open space. The slack line got more warmth than other lawn activities requiring more equipment.
• Response to fitness stations was mixed, with those in favor generally strongly in favor, while those against cited lack of use in other settings.
• There was interest in courts, mixed with acknowledgment of the lack of much space within the project area.

project summary
PROJECT CONTEXT
Phased multi-block redevelopment project within a few blocks of a future light rail station. The entire development encompasses multifamily housing, an open green space, promenades, and areas for dining and retail.
BLOCK E
Block E, the closest to the future light rail and situated along high-traffic Westminster Way N, functions as a gateway to the commercial portion of the project. It required designing for a threshold experience for both vehicles and pedestrians. With an open space for outdoor dining, the design buffers shoppers from traffic and parking and provides a richly textured outdoor room for lingering.
MY ROLE
These pages focus on Phase I / Block E, where I took on a shared project manager role and handled most planting design and site design questions.

PROJECT CONTEXT
Small (under 1 acre) properties where space is at a premium and so precision is a must. Most clients have an extensive program of recreation, features, and circulation on sites that will host a variety of scales of gathering - from personal retreats to lively family events to elegant soirees for business associates.
MY ROLE
I contributed to early schematic design and ran code reviews at the start of projects to outline and initiate any required permit processes. I generated or marked up schematic and design development graphics. I worked closely with design principals through multiple rounds of detail development and product / structural
/ mechanical research. I presented options to clients. I designed and managed planting designs, irrigation design, lighting design, and paving/ jointing layouts, in addition to working out grading problems. I made site visits and prepared meeting agendas. I coordinated daily with architectural, interior, custom fabrication, and contractor team members.
