Choose one well-known movie director and create a film festival for the chosen director. Discover a common thread that appears in a selection of their films, and conceptualize an aesthetic that brings it to life. Generate a system of deliverables that show the soul of the film festival including a catalog, a DVD collection, a soundtrack, tickets, schedule and promotional materials.
››_APPROACH
Sam Mendes is the director that I chose because his movies focus on the concept of home and the different sides of American culture through stories of ordinary life. I created a visual system based on the thread “Insecurity pushes people to try to change or run away from their oppressive situation, but they are bound in relationships that they can’t let go of, so they are propelled to a tragic end.” The name of this festival is “The Unbreakable Bond.” I used black and gold to represent the feeling of luxury that hides problems and tragedy. I also used scrambled letters in each deliverable to conceal the words.

Choose a dead, dying, or defunct brand and identify its essence. Revive the brand by creating a new brand identity. Bring new life to the brand while keeping its original purpose. Design a strong visual system, an extensive brand standards manual, identity, and brand extension.
››_APPROACH
Maxtor was the third largest hard disk drive manufacturer in the world before being purchased by Seagate in 2006. I decided to re-brand Maxtor from a company that had a cold, serious and solid feeling to become an innovative storage system. I combined the letter ‘M’ and an elephant to represent long memory, families, and strength, which follows Maxtor’s original idea of collecting, preserving, and sharing precious memories from the personal to the financial. I also used the yellow from the elephant’s eyes to create a warm visual system.

Design a poster based on a song that you choose. Interpret the meaning of the song through typography, imagery, and layout to create a unique poster. Work with a projector that projects different materials to compose the images for use on the poster.

I chose “Demons” by Imagine Dragon as the music for designing the poster. I expressed the feeling of sadness by blurry images and power by using red. I created typography that could not be read to represent hiding and imperfection in humans. I also played with natural light and layered material to create the feeling of human complexity.

Develop a unique ISO app for urban San Franciscans aged 21-25 that uses at least 3 native iPhone functions. The challenge was to craft a thoughtful and engaging user experience, within the constraints for designing mobile touch interfaces.
››_APPROACH
Path Finder is an app that helps people, especially women, who live or travel alone to alert them to danger areas, and help them avoid unsafe routes, prepare for bad situations, and quickly connect with assistance. I used three colors to represent different meanings: green for safety, red for warning and blue for reliability. To create a convenient experience, my design focuses on clarity, simplicity, and making sure that my target audience has more security, travels in safe places and quickly connects to others for help in bad situations.

Choose a non-profit organization and design a typographic visual system for it. Create a strong visual system that can be applied across multiple platforms. These platforms include a book, responsive website, mobile application, and environmental branding. All deliverables have to be typography based.
››_APPROACH
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or CMC, was the organization that I chose. After research and exploration, I designed a new identity system to attract more people and make them more concerned about child safety. I used blue and grey in the visual system to convey a reliable and secure image for the organization, and used blurred images to convey a warning.

››_OBJECTIVE
Design a 32-page book that tells a story about a period of time. The book should be about what we see, touch, or experience in our daily life. It also can be a situation that has a beginning and ending time. Observe the situation and document it by both taking a photo and writing about it to tell the story.
››_APPROACH
I created a bilingual book, in English and Thai, which documents Songkarn Day. Songkran Day is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day. On this day, there are many activities, such as making merit, giving alms, splashing water, and so on. I chose this celebration because it reminded me of Thai culture, which is hard to find in the US. Each chapter is devoted to a different activity during the day. I used yellow to represent the hot weather in Thailand and the warm feeling between people.

Choose one problem that we have seen around us and design a solution for it by using graphic design. Create a visual system to attract the audience and solve the problem. The system needed to function and visually across a multi-format of deliverables.
››_APPROACH
Allergen Scan is the solution that I found for helping people who have food allergies. The concept is having food “safely, quickly and easily.” The Allergen Scan is an application that gives information on ingredients to help consumers find the allergen in products when they are purchasing food.

The objective of my thesis is to use graphic design to reduce shopping addiction in our society and to help people control their spending.
››_APPROACH
Byebuy is the name of a conceptual mobile application which means “say goodbye to shopping.” Byebuy has been created to help people control their disposable income by saving more than spending. The main function of this conceptual app is user spending habits tracking and setting goals for valuable and meaningful purchases.
