LIBRARY SUMMER OF IMAGINATION: DIVE INTO READING

All ages Be part of Aurora Public Library’s Summer of Imagination: Dive into Reading. For nine weeks, children of all ages get to participate in a summer full of adventure through reading and theme related programs. Set weekly goals, earn prizes from day one, have a chance at a grand prize and be part of a community art mural. Details at AuroraLibrary.org • May 30-July 31 • Free

Ages 8-14 Young artists get the opportunity to peek behind the curtain, so to speak, at the life of a working actor. Participants will learn and rehearse the play “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” then perform multiple shows a week for area youth and families. Unlike other area theater day camps where participants work with guest educational artists and present one weekend’s worth of performances to invited audiences, our young artists will work with professional directors, technicians, and stage managers to put up a fully realized production with full tech, and present multiple performances. Enrollment is limited to the first 26 young artists to sign up. There is no audition required to participate. • May 31-July 2, 9 a.m.-noon • The Aurora Fox Arts Center, 9900 East Colfax Ave • $300 or $60/week. Scholarship opportunities for those who qualify! ABOUT THE SHOW: “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” is a play with music based on the beloved children’s book written by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. The collection of fractured fairy tales stars Jack of “Jack and the Beanstalk” notoriety, who tells humorous parodies of famous children’s stories and fairy tales. Young artists will take on an assortment of wacky characters like, Little Red Hen, Chicken Licken, Little Red Running Shorts, and of course, the Stinky Cheese Man himself!
