timeless look of

Audrey Hepburn

As ingénue Holly Golightly in 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn inspired a style that everyone wanted to copy. Her large

wide-open eyes were indisputably the focus of her face, with thick liquid liner along the upper lash lines that flicked up towards the end of the eyebrows, which were strong with a pronounced arch. She peered out innocently from under the long, curled lashes that fluttered alluringly. Her cheeks were naturally flushed and her lips were kept light in soft pinks or nudes.

Audrey’s look epitomizes youthful innocence. All the drama is on the eyes, and the rest of the make-up is soft and pretty.

keynoteS of the audrey hepburn look # Dramatic full false lashes and lashings of mascara are a must for this wide-eyed look. # The eyebrows must have a sharply defined arch to frame the face. # Use powder eyeshadow in shades of grey and define the socket well to give the eyes depth. # The focus is on the eyes, so keep the pout pretty in soft pink, peach or nude.

2 Prime the eyelid to create a neutral base and use a nude pencil along the waterline to brighten and open up the eyes. 3 Apply a powder eyeshadow one shade lighter than your skin tone all over the lid. 4 Use a light grey eyeshadow to deepen the socket crease and then blend a little along the lower lash line at the outer corners. 5 Using a brown gel liner, draw along the upper lash line from the inner corner. Just before you reach the outer corner, draw a flick up towards the end of the brow. 6 Curl the lashes and coat them with black mascara. Apply full false lashes to accentuate the wide-eyed look.

7 Use a mattifying primer to create a smooth shine-free base. Then even out the skin with a medium-coverage foundation and conceal any blemishes or under-eye circles. Set the make-up with light-reflecting translucent powder. 8 Add subtle colour to the face by brushing a soft, clear pink blusher over the apples of the cheeks and blending it up towards the temples.

9 Exfoliate the lips and apply balm to create a smooth base. 10 Outline the lips with a soft pink lip liner, then colour in the shape. Apply another coat of balm and blend it well with a lip brush.

# For a more natural and wearable version of this look, leave off the false lashes – just curl your lashes and coat them with mascara. # If your skin has yellow undertones, use taupe or light brown eyeshadow instead of grey, warm up your cheeks with apricot blusher or bronzer, and use an apricot-toned nude lip colour.
