First established during the 1930s, Auspac Media have the honour of representing the most talented Australian and International puzzle creators and comics. As a small team of dedicated staff they aim to bring you the finest features available through newspapers, magazines and interactive online content. Ken Egan, a former research and development engineer of automation systems, specialises in creating number puzzles. Since 1998 Ken has been working with the Auspac family to create entertaining and educational puzzles that put the fun back into numbers. Ken’s work has been published internationally and he has received educational endorsements for his puzzles from institutions around the world. A note from Ken: “Several years ago I received an interesting email from a young boy of about eight or nine years of age from Zambia, South Africa. He discovered my website and contacted me to see if I could help teach his father and himself how to understand maths. I gave him all the assistance I could so that he could help his father and we kept in contact by email for quite some time. His teacher agreed that if the boy helped his father through the year then a copy of the year-end exam would be made available to his father. I agreed to provide multiple copies of selected single puzzles from our website, some of which are included in the Fun with Numbers book. I was delighted to hear at the end of the year the boy and his father passed the exams, much to their excitement. It is wonderful to know that I have made a small difference in someone’s life for the better and will always remember his humble request.” Turn to the back page for information on how to send us your feedback.
ALFAKODO
Instructions
Alfakodo All the letters A to Z in the left-hand columns have a number value. Some of these values are shown in the right hand columns . In this example we can see that B = 9, K = 3, L = 14, R = 6, S = 2 and T = 17. Create all the remaining values using the clues shown in the centre columns. In this example K = C + S = 3. This means that while K = 3 so does C + S.

We can see S = 2, so C + 2 = 3. Reverse the sum to find the hidden value of C. 3 - 2 = 1, therefore C = 1. If you write the number 1 in the empty cell next to C you have just found the next clue. Alpine Trek Follow each path, A, B, C and D, as indicated by the arrow. Calculate each number in sequence to find the total for each path. Using these calculations, answer the question aboveA the B C maze. D E F 7

Hidden Numbers Use a process of elimination to discover the numbers that have been replaced by a question mark. Mental Maths Each grid has a hidden numerical sequence in each column and row. Start with the given numbers to decipher the sequence and fill all the squares. Number Pyramid 015
Pyramid Each number is the sum of the two numbers directly below it.

Each number can only appear once in each row, column and block.
COLUMN
To solve the puzzle, all the blank cells must be filled in using numbers from 1 to 9. BLOCK
In the highlighted row and column you can see a 3, you cannot add another 3 in the same row or column or in the top left block that the current 3 is in. In the solution, you can see how each row, column and block have the numbers 1 - 9 without any repeats.
