PROBLEMS
SITE
Broadway + Park is a very busy intersection with no real safe means of travel. Right on the corner is a small family resturant that is mostly forgotten about and in need of a revitalization.
BROADWAY The Salvation building takes up more than half of the block. The building is old and falling apart and their parking lot is filled
PARK BLVD.
with tons of old trucks. The lot is prime location for large community engagement. The sidewalks are narrow and there are always people sleeping along the chain link fences.
Park Blvd. is supposed to be the back bone of San Diego but almost known of it lives up to its purpose. The Store front at the Salvation Army building is run down and out of date. To many people sit along the sidewalk for anyone to want to walk regularly here.
By taking away the Salvation Army building on the site there is an oppurtunity to reuse all of the old storage shpping containers that used to sit around on the site. The good thing about these containers is they are very strong and can easily be broked apart and put back together in any combination desired. The containers can be well insulated and can stack very easily making for a very flexible apartment design.

UNITS
idea 1
idea 2
Construction would start by rebuilding the Salvation Army building so that now it is only a skin. From there a new concrete slab and post structure can be built to support the units on top. The structure that will hold the shipping containers will be steel i-beams. This will give a strong base for the containers and allow for easy change and adapt in the future. The containers theirselves will range from standard 45’ to a smaller 20’ unit. This will bring a dynamic look to the fascade and also allow units to be more easily recycled.
STRUCTURE
idea 3
Tall wall with metal cladding to help bring a importance to the entrance of the restaurant
Bump out glass facade that helps blend the interior and the exterior.
The large windows, one looking onto Broadway and other into park, bring in lots of natural light and allow passer byers to see the dinning making the building more transparent
POP-UP RESTAURANT By bringing in the idea of a pop- up restaurant to the site, the site will be able to grow and change each time a new business is in the building. The large space can also be used for different types of entertainment when a food service ain’t occuping the building. Its design helps bring entertainment and interaction to the site, a much needed nessecity to help the site become vibrant.
SIDEWALK DESIGN
The sidewalk is widened to allow for better traffic flow. This also allows new
