Early Life and Calling:

Born on April 3, 1924, in Moodahadu Kudru, in historical Barkur, Udupi, into a devout Catholic family, Sacristan Late Isaac Roche and Carmine Montero as fifth child and this wonder child Francis Roche (his baptismal name) felt a strong calling to the religious life. He joined the Capuchin Order, took the name Alfred, and was ordained a priest on April 11, 1951. From the beginning, his deep faith, humility, and love for thepoorsethimapart.

Zeal:

Fr. Alfred Roche dedicated his priestly life to serving remote parishes. His longest and most impactful tenure was at Holy FamilyChurch,Brahmavar,where he served for 16 years (1956–1972). The family of 22-year-old Waqas Masih,aChristianmanwhosurvived amurderousattackathisworkplace over an alleged desecration of Islamic texts, has said hisattacker waspressuringhimtoacceptIslam. Thescrapcontractorsufferedsevere injuries to his throat and was hospitalizedonMarch21inLahore.

His condition is reported to be stable. Police have arrested his attacker, Zohaib Iftikhar, a Muslim who was shift-in-charge at Subhan Ullah Paper Mills in Sharaqpur, some 42 kilometers west of Lahore inPunjabprovince.

Masih’s family, who belong to the Pentecostal Church, said Iftikhar tried to kill him by slashing his

throat with a box cutter blade. Ryasat Masih, the victim's father, also said his son was attacked for refusingtoacceptIslam.

Masih, in a written statement, said Iftikhar falsely accused him of desecrating a copy of an Islamic textbook with his “unclean hands” while collecting scrap material. He played a key role as the main coordinator of the Mangalore Konkans Family Fiesta, which took place on December 8, 2024, at the Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club, attended by 2,000 people. As president, his goal is to provide fresh direction to the association and wholeheartedly serve the community.

Professionally, he is the managing director of Reach Me Advertising Company.

Bhadravathi, March 23, 2025: Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Old Town, Bhadravathi, celebrated International Women’s Day with a meaningful liturgy, followed by a series of cultural programs that highlighted the contributions and achievements of women in the parish.

Mrs. Mary D’Souza, Diocesan President of the Executive Body of

the Commission for Women, outlined the aims and objectives of the Commission, explaining its membership rules and annual subscription. She encouraged womentotakeanactiveroleatthe diocesan level and extended an invitationtoattendthe7thNational ConferenceinChennai,TamilNadu.

As part of the celebration, she presentedappreciationcertificates

The President of the programme, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, in his presidential remarks, stressed on five special ways of learning those were-learningtoknow;learningto

do; learning to live together; learning to be and learning to transform oneself and society; which summarizes the importance of inclusivity that foster sustainability.

ChiefGuestDrSanjayPaswaninhis speech gave an overview and a critical perspective regarding social exclusion and the need for social inclusion to promote sustainable development. He touched on every dimensionoflife toputforward on thereviewoftheperspective.

There were 3 panel discussions during the programme. Mr Aby

Augustine, Assistant Professor, DepartmentofMediaStudies,Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, spoke on Media Led InitiativesforEnvironmentalJustice; Ms DivyaHegde, Founderand CEO of Baeru Environmental Services, Udupi, spoke on Voluntary Organisation’s Approach towards Environmental Justice and Ms Deepa Sasidharan, Director and Head, Corporate Communications, CSR & Sustainability, Continental, Bengaluru,spokeonEnvironmental Justice & Corporate Social Responsibility. Besides this, there

were paper presentations by the participants and sharing the initiativesbyChangeAgents. There were 45 paper presentations from the participants from various colleges.

Thefirstplenarysessionwasheldby Dr.PramanshiJajadeva,Professorin history,Pataliputra University, Bihar onthetopicinclusiveleadershipfor sustainable development. She focusedonhowinclusiveleadership can have an impact on people’s lives. Her presentation was focused on how inclusive leadership impacted people related to their historicalcontext.

Post lunch we had secondary Plenary Session on the topic social entrepreneurship, which was

conducted by Dr. Poornima Venkat by engaging participants through group activities and having an interactive discussion she completelyhelped.Theparticipants understand the significance of social entrepreneurship, and how it helpsinbuildinginclusivesocieties. Dr Shwetha Rasquinha welcomed the gathering. Dr Loveena Lobo briefed about the seminar. Vinola Pintoproposedthevoteofthanks. The Valedictory programme was held in the evening at 4.15 pm. StAloysius University holds Blood Donation Camp

TheNCCArmy,NavyandAirWings andYouthRedCrossAssociationof St Aloysius (Deemed to be University),incollaborationwiththe Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, District Wenlock Hospital,

Mangalore, organized a Blood DonationCamponMarch18,2025, between 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Sahodaya Hall. The primary objectivewastomeettheincreasing need for blood in the city and to create awareness about the

significanceofblooddonation. The camp began with the inauguration programme. Dr Denis Fernandes, Associate Professor,

Dept of History and the Director of the Arrupe Block, was the chief guestwhospokeonthesignificance of blood donation. Rev Fr. Vishwas Misquith, the Finance Officer of St Aloysius(DeemedtobeUniversity), in his presidential address encouraged the doners and congratulated the NCC Wings and YRC for organising the blood donation camp. Mr Antony, the incharge of the Blood Bank, addressed the students regarding the process of blood donation and thebenefitsofdonatingblood. The Wenlock Hospital Blood Bank Staff, YRC officers Ms. Kavitha and DrMahabubaliNadafand ANO’sof NCCWingsFlyingOfficerDr.Alwyn S. Misquith, Capt Shakin Raj and Lt Cdr Dr Hariprasad Shetty, NCC cadets and YRC volunteers were presentfortheprogramme.

A total of 69 units of blood was collectedoutof82donors.

A Platform for Diplomacy and Discourse

The second edition of the Aloysius ModelUnitedNations(ALMUN)was held on March 18 and 19, 2025, at

University), Mangaluru. In just two years, ALMUN has grown into one of the city’s premier MUN conferences, fostering critical thinking, diplomacy, and policymakingskillsamongstudents.

The event was guided by the Chief Advisor, Dr. Rose Veera D'Souza, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, whose leadership played a crucial role in shaping the event'sstructureandexecution.The seamlesscoordinationofALMUN

2025 was made possible by SecretaryGeneralRonstonSequeira and Director General Anita Sara Aniyan, whose dedication ensured thesuccessoftheconference. Theinauguralceremonywasgraced by Dr. Smithi Hegde as the chief guest. The university’s Rector, Rev. Fr. Melwin Pinto SJ, along with Dr. DenisFernandesandDr.RatanTilak Mohunta, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the role of MUNs in shaping future policymakers and leaders.

ALMUN

2025 featured four committees—Lok Sabha, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), UnitedNationsOfficeonDrugsand Crime (UNODC), and the International Press. Delegates engaged in rigorous debates and negotiations, tackling pressing global and national issues. Meanwhile, the International Press playedacrucialroleindocumenting proceedings and conducting interviews, ensuring transparency andaccountabilityacrosssessions.

On the second day, deliberations

culminated in the passage of resolutions across committees. The Press Conference, held towards the end of the event, provided a platform for journalists to engage with delegates, questioning their stancesandpolicydecisions.

The valedictory ceremony was marked by the esteemed presence of Shri Mullai Muhilan MP, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Dakshina Kannada, whovisitedthecommitteesessions before addressing the delegates. His insights on governance, policy implementation, and youth participation in policymaking resonated strongly with attendees. Accompanying him was Shri Sudhir Shetty K, Former Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation, who emphasizedtheimportanceofcivic engagement and leadership. The

event was further honoured by the presenceofRev.Dr.PraveenMartis, SJ, Vice Chancellor of St. Aloysius Deemed to be University, who delivered the closing address, commendingthedelegatesfortheir participation and urging them to carryforwardthespiritofdiplomacy andinformeddebate.

As ALMUN 2025 concluded, it was evident that the conference had cemented its place as a leading platform for debate and diplomacy inMangaluru.Thecommitmentand enthusiasm displayed by participants set a high benchmark, ensuring that ALMUN continues to thriveintheyearstocome.
