The program began with a warm andgracefulwelcomebytheMaster of Ceremony, Ms. Anusha Noronha, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, who guided the proceedings with elegance and clarity.

The formal welcome and introductionoftheesteemedguests was delivered by Mr. Rodney Vas, Convenor & Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, who highlighted the relevance of the conference theme in today’s fastchanging financial world and acknowledged the presence of eminent personalities from academiaandindustry.

Heleftthisworldaround1.00amon the7thofAprilduetocardiacarrest at Vamanjoor, Mangaluru where he was residing with his life partner Janet and three sons Avinash, Anupam,andJeetan,anddaughterin-lawforthelastseveralyears.

His mother Delphin teacher taught meEnglishasasubjectinVStdina Kannada medium school at SaraswatiVidyalayaPrimarySchool, Gangolli. His father Valerian Fernandes was our Physical Education Instructor at Saraswati Vidyalaya High School (Kannada medium 6th to 10th Std), Gangolli. Both were dedicated teachers and highlyrespectedbyeveryoneinthe village irrespective of caste, class, andreligion.Mr.Valerianwasinthe parish administration, and he was oneofthemainLatinsingersinour Gangollichurch.

Being our neighbours and parishioners, I knew Vinod Fernandes and his younger brother Vikasfromtheirchildhood.

In the recent years, at his request, I wasinclosecontactwithVinodand hisfamilyforrecordingmyKonknni interviews and Mannkam Môtyam videos. He has interviewed me for 37Konknniprogrammesonvarious topics. Out of which he has already edited and uploaded 26 videos on YouTube. He recorded40 videos of Mannkam Môtyam and uploaded 27videos.

We had planned recordings in the months of May and September 2025.Hewaskeentodoaone-hour Konknni film of my Konknni monologueplay"Zudas".

Vinod was a healthy and strong person with no vices. He was a disciplinedpersonwithregularwalk, simple lifestyle with rice and fish curry. Moreover, he was a valuebasedpersonwithhislife rootedin the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church. Through his DivyavaniLiveYouTubeChannelhe was telecasting devotional,

religious,andotherrelatedKonknni programmes.ButGodhaddifferent andbetterplansforVinod.

His unexpected death has shocked allwhoknewhim.Hissuddendeath reminds us that our life on this planetcouldbe comparedtowater bubbles.Theyfloatonthewaterbut soonburst.Deathcomeslikeathief.

Hence, we should be ready all the time for our departure, while continuing our mission with total dedication.

The event was well organised and mesmerising.HatsofftoAnandand his team. One of the main features was Miss Kudla 2025 competition andfashionshow,choreographyby Mangalore star Wencita Dias. She did an excellent job, and all the participants performed well with catwalk wearing Lehenga choli in the first round followed by formal dress in the second round and wedding gown in the final round. Othereventsincludedmanydances, belly dancing, Walter Nandaleke and Arvind Bolar private challenge, etc. I had the opportunity to crownthe winner of ‘Miss Kudla’.

Radhika Shetty, the Mangalurubased Bharatanatyam artiste, recently completed a monthlongEuropean tour that began on March6,2025.Thetourfeaturedsix performances of her acclaimed solo thematic production 'Mānushī – On a Quest, along with five workshops conducted across five citiesinEurope. Thejourneybegan in Zurich, Switzerland, with both a

performance and a workshop hostedbySprihaAcademy.Thenext destinationwasBudapest,Hungary, where Radhika presented two performances and conducted two workshops, supported by local organizations Anjali School of DanceandKalaSamarpana.

In Berlin, Germany, Natya Berlin –hosted a performance and

workshop. Following this, The GandhiCentre, the cultural wing of the Indian Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands,welcomedRadhikafor a performance, while the NL Adavu Meet organized a workshop in Amsterdam. 'Fuddar Prathisttan Puraskar-2025

Fuddar Prathisttan (R.) organized 'Fuddar Prathisttan Puraskar-2025' for the toppers and achievers of Mangaluru and Udupi diocese on Sunday 6 April at Milagres Jubilee HallMangaluru.

As many as 405 catholic students excelled in SSLC, PUC, graduates,

post-graduation, various competitive examinations and in sportsatInternational,nationaland state level were felicitated during theprogram.

MostRevFrMaximLNoronha,Vicar General of Mangaluru diocese inaugurated the program by

lighting the lamp. Nigel Pereira, President of Fuddar Prathisttan presided over the program. Prof John DSilva, Diocesan Parish Council Secretary, Managluru diocese was the Chief Guest. Guest of honour, Santhosh Cornelio, President of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, Secretary Vivid DSouza, Joint Secretary Alwyn Quadros, directors Jerald DCosta, Anil Lobo andHarryRegowerepresent. Prof John DSilva, chief guest of the program, congratulated the Fuddar Prathistan Trust for organizing a beautiful program to felicitate the

achievers and for motivating them. In his keynote address he emphasized on the need of government officials from the Catholic community and encouraged the students to try answering various competitive examinations. He urged the students to stay in the country and serve our country and stay connectedwiththeirfamilies.

SanthoshCornelioinhisspeechsaid that education should help us develop a value-based society and not lead us away from spirituality andfamilylife.

The retreat was prayerfully led by Rev. Fr Sunil Praveen Pinto, who guidedthefaithfulthroughadayof reflection and renewal. The

Chrism Mass 2025: Priests Renew Promises, Sacred Oils Blessed in Mangalore

MANGALURU, April 10: In a deeply spiritual and solemn gathering, the Diocese of Mangalore witnessed one of its most significant annual liturgical events - the Chrism Mass - on the eveningofThursday,April10,2025, at Rosario Cathedral, Mangalore. The celebration was presided over

by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, in thepresenceofhundredsoffaithful, diocesan clergy, religious sisters, andlayrepresentativesfrom across thediocese.

Described as the largest pre-Holy Week clergy and faithful assembly inthediocese,theChrismMass

servedasapowerfulsymbolofunity within the local Church. In his opening remarks, Bishop Saldanha said, “The true picture of the Universal Church, particularly the localchurch,isveryevidenthere today, as the bishop with his

priests the co-workers and the entire congregation, including religious sisters and lay faithful, have come together in unity to celebratetheMassofChrism.”

A Day of Prayerful Preparation

Earlierintheday,diocesanclergy

gatheredforapastoralconsultation, followed by a time of spiritual recollection, sacramental confession, and Eucharistic adoration. These moments of preparation underscored the sanctityoftheChrismMassandthe spiritualdepthofthepriesthood.

Rev. Fr Dominic Vas, OCD, Parish PriestofInfantMaryChurch,Bajjodi, preached a reflective spiritual discourse focusing on synodality in thelifeandministryofpriests.

In his homily, Bishop Saldanha

Following the homily, Bishop Saldanhaledthediocesanpriestsin the renewal of their priestly promises. As the congregation looked on in reverence, the bishop asked the priests to reaffirm the vows they had made at their

ordination to serve in union with Christ through the celebration of the liturgy, proclamation of the Word, and acts of charity and sacrifice.Healsoinvitedthefaithful toprayfortheirpriestsandforhim astheirshepherd. Deaconsthenpresentedthesacred oils to the bishop for blessing. The

MANGALORE,APRIL10,2025: In a spirit of UnumPresbyteriumand shared pastoral responsibility, over 225 priests both diocesan and

religious serving in various parishes and institutions of the Diocese of Mangalore gathered for the annual Pastoral Consultation heldonApril9and10atStAntony’s Charity Institutes, Jeppu. This twodaygatheringservedasasignificant

moment of communion and collaboration among the clergy, offering an opportunity to deliberate on important pastoral concerns impacting the faithful of thediocese.

Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, BishopofMangalore,whopresided over the event, set the tone for the consultation by emphasising the importance of unity in mission. In his inaugural address, he said, “This gatheringisacelebrationofcoming together of priests who have a sharedmissionoftheChurch.Itisa day to meet and greet every priest of the diocese, share experiences, and address pastoral challenges. Sunil George Dsouza. The day was filled with enriching interactions, insightful inputs, and shared concerns that resonate across the diocese.

The second day began with prayer by Fr Anil Lobo from the John Paul Shrine, followed by sessions on propertyandfinancemattersledby Fr Maxim Rosario and Fr Jagadish Pinto. These sessions addressed practical challenges in administration and the stewardship of resources. A session on other pressing pastoral issues was animatedbyMsgrMaximNoronha, the Vicar General of the Diocese. Mangaluru: Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, Natekal, Mangaluru in collaboration with the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), organised a Didactic session and a Hands on Workshop on the Importance of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)for the students at Padua College of Commerce and Management on 18th March 2025.

Students actively engaged in the interactive session, with many expressingtheirappreciationforthe opportunity to learn CPR firsthand on a manikin. The session also included a Q&A segment, where attendees clarified their doubts regarding

response measures.
