EXECUTIVE BOARD
The APRA executive board of directors meet regularly, and we continually work on maintaining and improving the association in any way we can. We’ve had a great start to the rodeo season for 2024 with a record amount of affiliate rodeos with record entries. It has been good to see so many new and existing rodeo committees in Victoria this year and we are looking forward to the busy season approaching, firstly Easter then before we know it onto the Northern run.
We’ve almost reached the halfway mark of the points year and to see the money won by competitors in the standings reflects the great sponsorship that provides our prizemoney. So don’t forget to support the sponsors that support your sport.
The National Finals are at the forefront of our thoughts and once again we have secured Gracemere as the venue and plans are well under way. 2024 is the Association’s 80th Anniversary and this year’s finals will be bigger and better than ever.
Lastly, we’d like to thank Melinda and the girls at head office for their dedication and hard work, they have been doing a fantastic job and are always happy to help both committees and members. Always remember though that they have a job to do and rules to run by.

The office is busy with the Southern Run continuing. We are endeavouring to get results and standings up as quickly as possible, but please be patient as we receive information from committees and check off results.
We welcomed Jessica to the team, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday to assist with Central Entries during this busy time You may have already encountered her when putting your entries in last month! We also celebrated Logan’s 12-month anniversary in the office, we appreciate her input and dedication to the Association.
As we are the Australian Professional Rodeo Association, we are all responsible for showcasing our sport in a professional manner especially with the great job our photographers are doing promoting our sport Please note;
Rule 11.5 Failure to wear a western hat, long sleeved, cut and sown shirt (no knit pullovers allowed) and western boots, in the arena, behind the bucking chutes and timed event box at all times during slack and performance. The only exception to this rule will be in the bareback and bull riding events, where the rider may roll up the sleeve of the riding arm to the elbow. Bullfighters to wear appropriate clothing with cowboy hats only, no caps.
Rule 12.5 Being under influence of liquor or a drug in the arena and/or consuming alcoholic beverage in the arena. (MAJOR OFFENCE)
With reference to extracts from Safe Work Australia and Horse Safety Australia the Australian Professional Rodeo Association advises all committee’s and promoters of events that are affiliated with them to adhere to the following risk management advice.
Halters are designed to catch, hold, lead and tie animals, and nothing else. However, some people ride horses using a halter instead of a bridle In most cases, it is not safe to ride in an ordinary stable halter because it fits loosely and provides no leverage to the rider should a horse panic or bolt. On the other hand, a bridle offers more precise control.
We ask that at all times you minimise risk by ensuring that your horse is fitted with the correct gear for events; bridles/saddles This ensures safety for officials, other competitors, and the general public

The Easter Run is fast approaching, please check altered entry dates for Rodeos due to Public Holidays. I’d also like to highlight the following rules in regard to preferences and tradeouts;
Rule 21.12 Contestants working 2 or more APRA rodeos in conjunction will get preference where possible. Contestants may elect an early preference at all rodeos. The first preference will be allocated to those members who are working 2 or more rodeo in conjunction. The only time a contestant can change performance is by trading out with another contestant. ie. Timed events with a contestant in another performance, Rough Stock contestants who have drawn the same head of stock Excluding Barrel Race (refer to rule 45 27)
Rule 45.27 Trade outs will be allowed 3 times in the season for the barrel race. Signature of one judge to be on the judge’s sheet. Tradeouts are to be done through Head office by 3pm the business day prior to the rodeo.
Rule 21.13 Contestants are allowed 3 preferences per year excluding rodeos over two (2) head or over $2,001 prize money.
Jill Lyons has been offered another position and has unfortunately resigned from her position with APRA. I’d like to wish Jill all the best in her new role, and I’d like to acknowledge the amazing amount of work and time she has dedicated to the Association since coming aboard in 2022 Among her many accomplishments, has been the new APRA software, the 2023 NFR, and beaming our Association to the world via the Cowboy Channel. ON HIS OUTLOOK FOR THE FINAL MONTHS OF THE JUNIOR SEASON...

South Australian junior competitor Kade O’dea has had a wonderful summer rodeo run and finds himself almost certain of qualifying for the Junior National Finals in 3 events. The 15 year old from Mount Gambier, leads the Junior Team Roping Heeling standings, as well as earning money on the heading side and has dominated the Junior Breakaway Roping in his home state.

CAMPING CONDITIONS:
• Camping is available for all competitors entered to compete inc day Members. Camping is only available from Friday 10th May at 2pm til Sunday 12th May at 10am. Camping is free, however, there is no power available. All sites must be registered when doing your entries via the online system . If you do not register, you may not be guaranteed a spot. All competitors must comply with the camping rules and adhere to allocated areas only.
• No campfires permitted
• Dogs are to be on a leash at all times. A minimum $150.00 on the spot fine will be issued if dogs are not secure - no exceptions.
• A ‘No Barking’ rule applies.
• No visitor’s vehicles are permitted in competitor camping area.
