ame’s Melinda Walker, and I am the Business Manager based in the wick Head Office. It has been a busy duction to the world of Rodeo with orthern Run and NFR approaching ly. I am enjoying learning more t rodeo and the business side of ng after our members. A little about ve lived in Warwick for the past 20 and for the past 8 years I worked for a local Stock & Station Agency doing livestock accounts.A regular spectator at the Warwick Rodeo, with my favorite event being the bar!

Season on the 1st October – if you are renewing your membership with a direct deposit into our Bank Account, please use your name and membership number as a reference, so we know who it’s from.

CATCH-UP

Our Affiliate numbers continue to grow with Forbes, Injune, Collinsville and Pittsworth Rodeo committees amongst our new affiliates. It’s great to be collaborating with new committees and to share advantages of affiliating with APRA. We can assist with insurance, provide complete committee packs to help your event run smoothly and we are available through the week for any questions or to provide any assistance.

A reminder for committees that we are now sending committee packs electronically. With Australia Post time frames, it is much faster for packs to come via email. It also means you can print extra sheets if you need or if they go walkabout.

We are endeavouring to keep a tight timeframe for posting prize money and standings, so email return of committee paperwork is greatly appreciated. It also means there is an additional copy of rodeo paperwork in case Australia Post loses mail.

Strap in for what is the famous Mount Isa mines rodeo

Outback Queensland has a knack for producing stand out rodeos and there are none finer than the mighty Mount Isa Rodeo. Backed by years of prestige and phenomenal prizemoney, Mount Isa is the rodeo every cowboy and cowgirl wants to win This year saw a healthy mix of repeat winners, Australian champions dominating and fresh faces claiming their first taste of victory on a big stage

Jane Ryan made it her second win in the famous arena, in a hotly contested Ladies Breakaway Roping. Her average time of 6.95seconds edged her in front of Moonbi roper Lauren Smith by merely 0.1 seconds. While current Australian champion Leanne Caban and her standout gelding Akka Dakka dominated in the Ladies Barrel Racing. A strong performance by Leanne in the Ladies Breakaway Roping also saw her sashed as the Allround Cowgirl.

It was the young guns who shined the brightest in the Rope and Tie, with Tamworth’s Logan Penfold taking home the coveted buckle, holding at bay all round sensation Toby Hale and Shane Iker

as the dust settles on a one of a kind rODEO.

The 2023 Team Roping buckles will also find themselves at home in the Tamworth region, with Ben Smith and Kai Clark proving why they’re the current Australian Champions, winning by a clear margin 1 5 seconds faster than anybody else

Jarrod McKane was the only cowboy to back up his win from the previous week at the Curry Merry Muster and he now finds himself in the heat of a Pro Tour title race with second placegetter Brendan Crawley. Victorian David Stacey proved too good for the Saddle Bronc Riding field, convincingly winning the blue ribbon from Queenslander’s Jordan Iker and Lachie Sheppard.

A Mount Isa rodeo win can boost your career and put you on the cowboy map so to speak. Fresh faces Boston Leather and William Sloan both made a name for themselves with standout performances and the biggest wins of their careers. William Sloan held off experienced cowboys and a pack of young enthusiastic steer wrestlers to claim victory At the other end of the arena, Boston Leather made his maiden trip to Mount Isa more than memorable He rode his short go bull in sticky fashion in front of a packed Saturday night stadium making him the only cowboy to ride all three bulls and the winner of the feature Bull Ride

Season standout Toby Hale wrapped up the winners, claiming the Allround Cowboy buckle, as the northern run of rodeos begins to wind down and the race to see who is crowned Pro Tour winners ramps up

ELITE FINISH

NORTHQUEENSLAND ELITERODEO2023

From outback dust in the northwest to the coastal beaches, the ‘northern run’ of APRA rodeos takes competitors on a diverse road trip of some of Queensland’s most spectacular tourism destinations. The season changing and standings shaking run of rodeos fittingly wound down with 2 days of action at the Elite Rodeo stadium near Townsville.

Wendy Caban had had a consistent northern run, gathering cheques in the barrel race at Cloncurry and Mount Isa as well as adding a round placing in the breakaway at Mount Isa. However, she saved her best performance for last, pulling off the daily double by winning both the Ladies Barrel Race and the Ladies Breakaway Roping for a total payout of $6482 at North Queensland’s Elite rodeo.

opposite ends of Australia,

Clancy Middleton of Hughenden QLD paired up with Glen Perkins of Mount Egerton Vic, to capture the team roping win from Emerald team, Angela Simpson and Tyler Kenny. The Rope and Tie master, Shane Kenny, proved why he is Australia’s most decorated cowboy, besting everyone for yet another win in his signature event. While Jace Land, fresh home from a USA stint, was too good for the rest of the field in the Steer Wrestling.

Ross Ford owned bucking horse, Out Of Pearl, helped Michael Johnston and Tristan Braden to first and second in the Saddle Bronc Riding respectively. Richmond cowboy, Deon Lane, made the straight trip along the Flinders Hwy and straight to the pay window after holding off veteran cowboy Dave Worsfold to win the Bareback Riding. The bulls beat most of the cowboys in the Open Bull Ride, with Victorian Sam Woodall claiming victory over the only other scorer Cameron Southern.

With the ‘northern run’ of rodeos winding down the action moves onto Capella rodeo this weekend. The race to secure a top 15 standings finish and book a National Finals Rodeo qualification is on for many cowboys and cowgirls and things will come right down to the end of the regular season on September 30th.

Late entries are taken Friday 9am to 4pm and Monday 9am to 12 noon unless stated differently below If there are more than 12 in an event, a late fee of $50 applies 12 noon Monday is the absolute latest to enter, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will further entries be taken after this time. The only exception is if there’s less than 12 in an event.

All times strictly Queensland Eastern Standard Time where daylight savings does not occur.

In case of a dispute on your entry, all entry calls will be recorded You will be given a call back number which you should keep as your confirmation of your entry. This number will be needed if you claim a mistake has been made with your entry.

Keep your calls to an absolute minimum - where call is answered strictly state membership number, rodeo and event

Entries are only taken on two days except where there are entries for five or more rodeos Check entry dates carefully! If entry dates fall on a public holiday check this page for altered dates/times

All contestants must have a zero balance in order to enter rodeos. If you have unpaid fees you are currently ineligible to be put in a draw

False communication with Central Entry system, regarding entry procedure. ACTION: A fine of $30, first offence; $60 second offence; $100 upon the third complaint

Entries will be accepted via email or by fax providing they are received in the correct timeframe i.e. between 9am on entry open day and 4pm on entry closing day for extenuating circumstances only No responsibility will be accepted if emails or faxes are not received by Head Office
