janet, jacki, monique, nicole colo ur and design in spir ation Darling Details had the pleasure to conjure up the colours and design inspiration for Australia’s Sweetest Morning Tea event. Inspiration for both colours and design as told by Monique from Darling Details: “I wanted to showcase Australia’s diverse landscapes and include our beautiful beaches, amazing rainforests, harsh bush land and rugged outback geography. Inspiration for our event is quiet simply on our front door!” The colour palette for Australia’s Sweetest Morning Tea consisted of a blend of yellows, blues, greens, browns and oranges to represent Australia’s varying different landscapes. Tones of these colours were also welcome. Each contributor was also challenged to add some depth to their e-event by including textural elements into their design that represent Australia. Elements could include and were not limited to bark, dust, wood, sand, water, leaves, tin etc.

ichelle of Hanging Pretty called upon many cherished childhood memories to create A Country Celebration. However her true inspiration came from the cancer battle of a treasured family friend. Michelle drew on this inspiration to pull together A Country Celebration worthy of royalty! Colours and textures were influenced by Outback Australia and old tin sheds, corrugated iron, native flora and tree stumps. As well the stunning colours of sunrises and sunsets set against the rich ochre tones of the Australian outback. The shearing shed location was the perfect backdrop and location and you can almost smell the billy can boiling on the fire and the damper in the pit. A floral candelabra, delicate floating floral orbs and fresh flower garlands were all elements that brought “Celebration” to this table. A magnificent 4 tiered earth inspired cake and sweet treats to tempt every palette, bought country abundance to this table. The native Australian infused menu gave dessert options an indigenous feel with the use of lilli pilli, bush honey, wild hibiscus, wattle seed and lemon myrtle. All together this table is enough to make any country heart sing with glee. Welcome to a Country Celebration – where true country hospitality lives!

he rustic browns and golds of the outback outdoors was bought indoors to an Australian Country Kitchen. Tones of rainforest green and rust were used in native flowers, nuts and gum leaves and neutral tones of warm browns and gold highlighted with rust and reds became the colour palette for the magnificent display of native inspired treats. What the ladies of Confetti & Crumbs have created is realistic, inviting and nostalgic and makes you feel like you are just about to walk into the warm surrounds of your great aunty’s country kitchen. The Grounds of Alexandria was the amazing location behind this country kitchen and the stunning rustic green of the kitchen was the perfect backdrop to the array of sweets that these amazingly talented ladies had on display. As the kitchen has such rich colours and heavy textures, the food colour palette was kept neutral. To keep in tune with the native elements, iconic Australian desserts were given a face lift using Australian native ingredients – like chocolate and wattleseed pavlova, lemon myrtle melting moments and wild hibiscus cheesecakes. Little calico sacks were given a water colour treatment and were filled with the melting moments as favours at each place setting. The Australian Country Kitchen – the iconic bought to vivid life and an invitation to a morning tea at great aunty’s house that no one could ever refuse!!

dreamy ethereal look with an eclectic collection of timber and metal but softened with ribboning and floral elements, this was the inspiration behind this beachside event. The Illawarra region of NSW, although coastal does not show its true self during summer days of blue sky and yellow sand. Where the true beauty lies is with the muted greens of the escarpment, scored with seams of coal as well as falls of both rock and water. When winter blows southerly storms and swells to these beaches, there is a wilderness to it - it is stark and simple, and stunning. It seems fitting that on many days one must drive through a curtain of cloaking mist before cresting cliffs and then the mist clears in time to reveal the coast’s hidden beauty, Meaghan created a cake that reflects the natural beauty of the Illawarra - the bottom tier with shades of muted greens and dusty ochre…much like the escarpment and the scars that have been wrought on her by age and weather. The middle tier is representative of what first brought European attention to the area… the subtle glitter of a coal seam while the top tier has all the beauty of our sunsets with strings of Neptune’s Necklace sea weed and the understated Clematis Aristata, or Old Man’s Beard flowers that grow in our hillsides. You will be lost in cloaking mist of this “Beachside Hidden Beauty”.

ustralia – the land of the sunburnt country! This was the main inspiration for the table created by Natalie of Events by Nat. Natalie wanted to highlight and capture the essence of the Australian outback. The colour palette to best reflect this outback inspiration is tones of yellow, orange and brown. For Natalie, the location was paramount for the mood to be set and the sandstone gorge was the perfect landscape. Textural elements of rock and sand, matched with wood and bark complement the rugged location. To go with something unique for her table, Natalie moved away from the “tea from her morning tea inspired shoot and instead opted for something typically Australian, a beer garden. All the natural elements were incorporated into the cake and dessert designs where sandstone, bark and native flowers became the central focus. Billy button cake pops, cookies and cake pops, teamed with a macaron cake in hues of the sunburnt colour palette and cakes that used sandstone textures to tell the outback story. Natalie wanted to transport the viewer into a virtual outback wedding, where through thoughtful details you could picture the presence of an Australian bride and groom. Welcome to the Sunburnt Country.

ith inspiration from the inner city suburbs of Sydney, Jacki wanted to create an urban oasis that was a part of modern day Australian city life. To encase the idea of hope and cure, the overall landscape of the event became one of “nurture from nature”. Even in busy city and urban life, we all long for beautiful natural and organic ingredients and every pure ingredient comes from the earth... Hence the urban gardener was born. Based around the busy life of a working mum, the urban gardener potters around in her green house and nurtures plants, herbs, vegetables and fruit. Jacki wanted to create a peaceful and serene scene where one can get away from everyday cares and be absorbed in nature. For an absolute Australian indulgence, iconic Australian morning tea sweets were given a new ‘cake face”. Traditional lamingtons became a 3 tiered ombre cake, the humble scone became a towering stack sandwiched with decadent homemade jam and fresh cream, the childhood classic of toffee apples were transformed into a caramel apple cone of decadence. Herbs were used in miniature desserts to further enhance the use of the garden with mint cupcake pots, basil and lemon pannacotta as well as chilli chocolate spoons. Jacki wanted to portray an afternoon tea of pure indulgence through decadent sweets and indulgent solitary time with nature. Our gardener then became a glamorous hostess for the evening and quickly sojourned to her green house to pick some herbs for her dinner guests. Welcome into the world of the Urban Gardener.

et on a pier in Redleap Reserve in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs, this rustic feast “By the Lake is as abundant as the surrounding landscape. The natural landscape was the stepping off point and the inspiration for all the design elements and the sweet elements for this event. The commissioned reclaimed timber tables used echoed the reds of the old pier and all the desserts had a contemporary, naked feel to them which represented the young and clean finish on the surrounding gum trees. With her event, Amanda wanted to be at one with her landscape and not compete with its natural beauty. Textural elements included wood, native blooms and the serenity of the surrounding lake. The table setting is abundant in thoughtful details and yet, uncluttered and clean, like the landscape. The dessert table purposefully made high to sit at the height of the pier commanded its full focus. Clear milk cake stands, platters and pedestals left the sweet artistry shine as well as the lake. Amazing desserts with clean finishes and native blooms made this lakeside feast one to remember. Enjoy this morning high tea, By the Lake!

utumn and the stunning colours of this most wonderful season, became the main inspiration for this majestic mountainous treat. The variations in colours of the falling leaves and the rolling green topped mountains, became the spectacular backdrop. Textural elements were left as organic as the setting, with wooden boxes for the woodlands beyond and this was softened with the addition of delicate flowers, soft blankets and the abundance of cakes and desserts on offer. With a clear view of the stunning dessert table, settings intimately laid for two are framed with beautifully hedged gardens and lush overhanging trees. Our inspiration words of LOVE, HOPE, CURE, STRENGTH were framed perfectly among these trees and the meaning of the day was in no doubt. A relaxed atmosphere, rolling mountains, a serene setting and the most decadent and relaxed of delicious treats on offer, allowed everything to come together to create a true Autumn Mountain Majesty.

ich blues and coppers symbolize our large rugged island nation. Our land made up of lustrous tones of orange earth and our amazing island surrounded by deep blue ocean.
Belinda’s inspiration was to play homage to Modern Australia utilizing the textural elements of rock and water. The stunning landscape that frames every vignette is one of true Australian beauty – with sandstone rock walls and a pebble rimmed waters edge. Rich orange and blue silk draped the dessert table and further enhanced the natural colours of the setting and provided a stunning backdrop with the modern and clean lined cake and treats that look like modern indigenous paintings on the rock walls themselves. Amazing vintage coloured glass pedestals were the perfect accent on this table of dreamtime perfection. The table setting seemingly floating in the water, is the perfect dining experience in this dreamtime location. Rich table settings in colours and textures with native flowers, indigenous inspired napkins and the most amazing cobalt acrylic chairs. It is the time to be lost in “Waters Edge Dreamtime”.

he beach so beautiful whether bathed in sunlight or moodily drenched with dark clouds looming all rugged up on the shore. These stormy seas and the weather worn timbers of the pier became the inspiration of Shipwrecked.
To bring the sea to the table, authentic antiques like glass fishing floats, unpolished brass, blue glass bottles and the crayfish pots were used. The teals of the wooden piers after decades of weather worn seas complete with rusty bolts became the colour palette. Helen wanted the dessert table to look as though it had been washed ashore. Table clothes and plait garlands had been tea dyed and ripped or severed to encourage the authenticity of being washed ashore. The story came to life on an overcast day. Using antique pressed glass stands and tarnished silver platters, these aged elements were a stark contrast to the organic and sea looking florals used - Phalenopsis Orchards, Sea holly, Kale and Chrysanthemum. Florals were also placed in glass bottles in the sand, trailed by a wood garland at the feet of the antique table. The cakes featured hand painted brass embellishments which complimented the elements of the location and concept. The main 5 tiered cake was finished with edible watercolour as well as the cookies and finishing with edible brass paint. A mixture of sugars, cinnamon and dried orange helped re-create edible sand on both the cookies and fondant vanilla cupcakes. Macarons were cleverly portrayed as oysters with the hidden pearl centre and chocolate feet. Like too many families, Helen’s family has been touched by cancer. With “Shipwrecked, Helen wants to bring awareness of cancer so more people can make it to shore after their storm.

odern day Australia is so rich in different heritages and we are truly a multicultural Australia. Daisy wanted to showcase her own Asian heritage and used an Olden Day Shanghai Morning Tea theme. The practice of sipping tea while sharing petite handmade delicacies with family and friends dates back to ancient times. To create an authentic setting for this morning tea, a one of a kind bar in the heart of Melbourne CBD Hardware Lane, Golden Monkey was the location. Daisy’s main inspiration came from a vintage red thermos that her mother brought back from overseas. Using these rich red tones, as well as gold accents and pops of stunning turquoise, this eclectic table was set. Centre stage is a ‘qi pao’ inspired cake also known as a mandarin gown. The combination of the phoenix and bright peonies on this 2 tiered red cake creates a visual metaphor for prosperity and righteousness. The top tier features a mandarin collar with cascading chinese knot buttons. Further asian inspired delicacies were used on this colour rich table including many forms of dim sum as well as condiments. Cascades of ruby red cherry blossoms festooned the table and cookies with an Asian art influence were a whimsical touch. Welcome to the rich surrounds of “Multicultural Australia”.

onique of Darling Details inspiration was a very personal and fitting journey of hope playing homage to her Mother who is battling with ovarian cancer. She sought to create a wistful scene of hope by encapsulating Australia’s true beauty.
The location was chosen for its vast splendour and natural bush setting in the Adelaide foothills within a conservation park. In true Australian spirit an unglamorous ‘dunny door’ was hung from the grand grey and set the scene of an afternoon affair of love and hope between a mother and her two daughters. Monique wanted to create a dreamy feel to the shoot and as such a striking diamond shaped cake covered in gold fringe and hung from the tree, sparkled in the afternoon sun and rain! The incredible and ever so talented Janet from The Cupcake Lady was able to capture the true meaning of Monique’s concept and create the cakes which complimented the many different colour tones and textures of Australia. With a heartfelt selection of Australian inspired sweets including mummy made scones with burnt fig and raspberry jam, lemon tea cakes, passion fruit mini pavalovas and personalised cookies the girls were able to enjoy their afternoon of sweetness together with their Mummy. Monique styled a cohesive combination of copper, Australian pottery pieces, wood and assorted native blooms on the table to represent the many varying textural elements of Australia’s geography whilst still focusing on the true meaning of the event.

ones of green, orange and yellow – each representing flora and nature along the great Murray River.
Memories of childhood camping trips, billy cans boiling on the fire and daisy chains made from local native flowers – each cherished memory became the inspiration for this luxurious camp side treat by the Murray. Tina utilized natural textures of wood, bark and tin, all organic elements found on a camping adventure. However when these natural elements were put together for this riverside feast, the outcome was complete sweet luxury. Damper cooked fresh from the earth, scones with luscious cream and jams, a billy can boiling with pots of soothing tea, lamington cake pops for a riverside twist and a magnificent cake that brings sunshine to the sun setting on this camping trip. If ever a trip to the riverlands of South Australia was desired, “A Campfire by the Murray” would be the only way to go!

ustralia – a nation of diverse landscapes from the red dust of the outback to the sparkling blue of sea that surrounds us and the luscious colours of the coral that floats on our shores. Lisa used our diverse landscape to design three cakes that represent this diversity. Two of these cakes are water themed. Australia is usually known as a harsh and dry land, however our island is surrounded by deep blue seas. A stunning water lily or lotus cake pays homage to the wetlands of Kakadu and the other cake is inspired by the amazing waves and coral of our Great Barrier Reef. The third and main cake is a representation of Lisa’s personal experience growing up in rural Australia. Childhoods of watching a starlit night, Akubra hats to reflect the harsh sun’s glare, endless fields of wheat, blackened fence posts that separate the lands and all surrounded by the fine red dust of the outback floor. The simple and native setting used to frame each outstanding cake reflects the diverse theme perfectly. Cakes and nature become one in this simple sweet ode to “A Diverse Land”.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA
A
my had a clear vision to incorporate the stunning native landscape of Western Australia, to add a little indigenous heritage and to highlight the warmth of this beautiful state of Australia.
The location is some of the most stunning landscapes you will see, the Pinnacles Desert in the Nambung National Park. The Pinnacles are a mysterious formation, created by thousands of huge limestone pillars rising up out of the orange and yellow sand. These pillars became the natural backdrop and table for Amy’s feast of the West. The colours of the scene became the inspiration. The centerpiece cake is truly a thing of beauty. Amy wanted her creation to be inspired by the many native elements that she has fallen in love with in Australia. The two top tiers of the cake were indigenous in style and depicted a kangaroo jumping around, which is exactly what Amy saw on her first visit to the Pinnacles. The rich colour and texture of the sand was represented by many, many royal icing dots. The bottom tier was completely encased in overlapping petals in all the colours that you see when standing in this amazing landscape – the green from the small bushes, the brown from the rocks, the orange from the sand and the yellow from the sun that hits the rocks and makes The Pinnacles so magical at sunset. Some native florals and a few thoughtfully chosen glass bottles and this scene was set. Amy’s concept illustrates and celebrates that less can be so much MORE!

hree inspirational and creative cake makers come together to challenge themselves and thrive in the creativity and to bring an idea to life. Nicci, Lisa and Nia all worked together to create the sweet treats for this autumn woodland table. The woodpile backdrop is the perfect landscape for this autumn feast for the eyes. Every detail was added with thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Daffodils were added to cupcakes to symbolize our overriding cause of the Cancer Council, a tree of hope cake covered in expertly crafted sugar flowers is outstanding. However the centerpiece cake that filled our screens with sunshine is brilliance in itself. This Autumn Woodland table fitted the brief perfectly and completely sums up the ASMT theme in one – creativity, inspiration, hope and our great Australian landscape. This shoot has been dedicated to Joan, Nicci’s nan, who has just been diagnosed with Cancer.

The combination of a creative cake maker and a paper artist is a thing of beauty. Not only were sweet treats made with sugar and flour, they were also made with creative twists and cuts of paper. Autumn inspired ingredients and flora made from beautifully worked paper are delicious and creative. Cakes are inspired by autumn and are a delicious array of home baked goods that define Debbi’s love of baking for family and friends. Welcome to this Autumn Picnic in the Park where friends and family are welcomed and spoilt with autumnal fare.

he beautiful picnic in the lush park, the array of sweets on offer and nature used as the table scape. Creativity was used in the use of trees and wood trunks as servers for the amazing cakes and sweets created by Velvetier. Tiered stands filled with pots of goodness and a decadent cream topped pavlova, hung from the tree branches as if suspended in air. Old wooden sea trunks were used as tables for the sweet picnic delights. Samantha’s inspiration came from our early European immigrants who came to our land by boat with only wooden trunks to carry their worldly goods. This is a picnic with a difference it is a “Picnic by Hanging Sweets”.

ith Mothers Day at this time of year, Constance wanted to create a beautiful event to celebrate the special mums in her life.
Centre stage on this table of sweet wonderment, were 3 beautifully crafted cakes by Faye Cahill. Faye used native flora and fauna as her design inspiration and the gold leaf application gave the table a richness in texture and tones. Constance wanted to honour her own Greek heritage and included many of her favourite European desserts on the menu. Traditional homemade lemon and passionfruit tarts gave some tang to the table and the sweet menu. Savoury canapĂŠs were also offered and truly made this a picnic of indulgence.

ith our main design element of creativity, Sweet Republic hit the nail on the head. Pascal transported us through the eyes of a tourist in Melbourne. Whimsical and fun plays on the tourist were put together thoughtfully and the colours of Melbourne became the inspiration. Blues used for the official colour of Victoria and yellow for the many sandstone building facades in Melbourne city. These facades became the backdrop to this playful ode to the tourist and it provides us a little peek as to how the world may see this wonderful city. Get your passport out and have fun being a Tourist in Melbourne.
