AYO NATIONAL MUSIC CAMP AUTUMN 2021

ONLINE CONCERT BROADCASTS

WELCOME TO AYO NATIONAL MUSIC CAMP THIS MONTH SAW OVER 150 MUSICIANS FROM ACROSS AUSTRALIA COME TOGETHER IN MELBOURNE FOR AYO NATIONAL MUSIC CAMP— THE FIRST IN-PERSON AYO PROGRAM IN OVER A YEAR. On the first evening of Camp I attended the initial rehearsals of the Bishop and Alexander Orchestras. The beginning of National Music Camp always brings with it a great deal of excitement, but from the first note the orchestras played it was evident that this year brought with it an extra level of joy, exuberance and solace at being able to play music together once more. AYO National Music Camp has taken a slightly different form in 2021, with two programs happening at different points in the year, rather than one camp over the summer break. This adjustment has allowed us to deliver musical experiences to as many young people as possible, while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our participants. We look forward to the return of our traditional two-week summer music camp in 2022.

For the AYO community, the annual Music Camp concerts provide us with an occasion to connect with our friends and fellow supporters, and to experience the next generation of young musicians as they showcase the results of their hard work and dedication. This year we are sharing the performances online, and whilst nothing can replace the atmosphere of a live performance I hope that you enjoy witnessing the magic of National Music Camp from afar through our two online concert broadcasts. Thank you for being a part of our remote audience, for the patience and understanding you have shown us over the past year, and for your ongoing support of AYO. With best wishes, Colin Colin Cornish Chief Executive Officer Australian Youth Orchestra

Behind every great performing arts organisation is a team of dedicated administrators; from orchestral managers and sound engineers, to leaders in communications, fundraising, marketing and journalism. This year at AYO Autumn Music Camp our Orchestral Management and Sound Production participants played a crucial role in the stage management and recording of performances, giving these young people a glimpse into the supportive roles that exist in the orchestral world, and providing them with the hands-on experience they need to excel in the field.
