The 2023 Kia EV9

The all-new Kia EV9 is an all-electric, three-row SUV designed to fill a gap in the market by offering an affordable, eco-friendly, and stylish alternative to traditional SUVs. The exterior design is stunning, featuring Kia’s signature “tiger nose” front with an absence of a traditional grille. The S-shaped constellation headlights, 3D lighting elements, and vertically-oriented taillights make for an impressive design, while the blacked-out A-pillars give the side windows and front windshield a wraparound look.

The EV9 has a spacious and comfortable interior with two configurations available - one for six passengers and one for seven. The dashboard is busy, featuring HVAC vents, a glove box, and a single panel housing the driver information cluster

and infotainment touchscreen. The second-row seats have a “Relaxation mode,” which allows the seats to recline and the front passenger seat to slide forward. This feature provides ample space for passengers to stretch out and relax during long drives.

Kia is committed to sustainability and is working towards using more bio-based and recycled materials in its vehicles. The EV9 does not feature any leather, and the company plans to increase the use of bio-based materials, such as corn, sugar cane, and natural oils. By 2030, Kia aims to increase the use of recycled plastics inside its vehicles to 20%.

The EV9 is powered by Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology, which comes in two options - a

standard 76.1-kWh battery on rear-drive configurations and a larger 99.8-kWh battery, which is optional on rear-drive and standard on all-wheel-drive models. The standard EV9 with a single electric motor delivers about 215 horsepower, while the dualmotor AWD model makes 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, taking it from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. The most powerful EV9 can launch to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, which is impressive for a seven-seater SUV. The range of the EV9 is estimated to be around 300 miles on a single charge, and fast-charging technology allows for a 1080% charge in under 25 minutes using a Level 3 fast charger.

Kia has equipped the EV9 with a host of advanced driver-assistance systems, including a new Advanced Highway Driving Assist system and Lane Following Assist 2, which offers better lane centering and highway assist features. The EV9 comes equipped with 15 sensors, including two lidar units, and is capable of Level 3 autonomy. The Remote Smart Parking Assist II feature allows the EV9 to parallel park itself even when no driver is inside the car.

While the official price has not been announced, the EV9 is estimated to cost between $56,000 and $73,000 depending on the trim. The EV9 is expected to launch in the US by the fourth quarter of 2023 and will be built in West Point, Georgia.
