74TH ANNUAL RI HOME SHOW

The RI Home Show is back for its 74th year and in celebration the show is adding a brandnew experience to the event, in partnership with the Rhode Island Brewers Guild, this year will feature the House of Brews. Attendees of the RI Home Show, taking place at the Convention Center April 4th to the 7th, will get the chance to enjoy complimentary samples of local beers from breweries within the Guild. This experience marks yet another way that the RI Home Show showcases an ever-growing local business trend in Southern New England.

AFTERNOON TEA

Afternoon Tea, available Friday – Sunday from 2-4 p.m. starting at $28 per person. The special weekend experience includes options for the whole family with two menus possibilities, one just for the kiddos. The regular menu comes with a three-tiered display of sweet and savory bites including buttermilk biscuits with seasonal jam, honey butter and Devonshire cream, housemade cauliflower and cashew-stuffed peppadew peppers, salmon belly BLTs, macarons and sea salt and Heath bar brownies, among others. For the little ones, the Brasserie serves up almond butter and grape jelly

“Uncrustables,” cucumber and cream cheese roll-ups, Vermont cheddar grilled cheese, applewood smoked ham baguette with gruyere and honey mustard, as well as hand cut French fries with ketchup and aioli. Specialty add-ons are available on Friday afternoons as well, for anyone looking to upgrade the experience.

STARGAZING NIGHTS AT FROSTY DREW OBSERVATORY

Are you looking for that awesome astronomy thing to do? How about

catching up on all the amazing things happening in space? Frosty Drew Observatory Stargazing Nights is the place to be for all your astronomy needs. Every Friday night (weather permitting) we open our Observatory, Sky Theatre, and telescopes to the skies and offer free views of the cosmos to anybody interested in observing with us. Starting at 7:00 p.m., views of the beautiful night sky over Ninigret Park will rock your night. Hang out with our astronomers and telescopes as we showcase the Rings of Saturn, the cratered lunar surface, the Galilean Moons of Jupiter, the polar ice caps of Mars, the phases of Venus, massive stars, speckled star clusters, vast nebulae, distant galaxies, and the best views of the Milky Way in Rhode Island. We stay open late, sometimes until dawn, and close when the skies become unobservable or everybody leaves. D.A. Mucci has been an Emergency Room physician for over 40 years, but the pandemic brought forth new horrors in the ER. Writing fantasy fiction in his spare time became a coping mechanism and even an enjoyable escape from dealing with the realities of Covid patients at work.

D.A. Mucci has been a member of the Association of Rhode Island Authors since 2022 and splits his time living in Connecticut and Florida, with his wife Jeanne by his side, where he writes his “Ignatius Series” and continues working as an Emergency Room physician. Three of the five books he has written in the Ignatius series have been released, with award winning Book 1 being featured on Good Morning America, and winning the NYC Big Book Fantasy award 2022, Readers Favorite 5 Star award, and Independent Press 2022 Award.

The Darling Porch at this Cumberland Vineyard for Spring Sips with Your Friends

If you’re looking for somewhere new for sips and a nosh with your significant other or your friend group this Spring, the porch at Diamond Hill Vineyards is a splendid spot.

Once you navigate the dirt road that leads to the main house, it’s completely charming in a let’s-sit-on-the-porch-andwine sorta way.

On one of our first visits, my friend S. and I actually chatted with owner who also presided over our tasting.

While we were sampling some of their most popular wines, she told us that her vineyard is one of the oldest in New England, dating back almost 46-7 years at this point.

She also divulged that they grow the grapes for their Pinot Noir on site, without any chemically based fertilizers or weed and insect killers (which I applaud wholeheartedly).

We have clinked glasses of both their Scarlet Run (a cab that we found out later was named for the owner’s greyhound) and River Valley Run (a chardonnay named after the Blackstone River Bridge) — in case you’re looking for specific recommendations.

Yum: You can also purchase crackers, hummus, and other picky bits to go along with your vino.

It’s an ideal setting for your next afternoon out with your faves this spring or summer in Lil Rhody. (We were there last fall and it was hopping then by the way.)
