n forgiato w h ee l s forging and Computer Numerical Control mills, drills, and lathes. CNC describes the process by which a computer component drives the tooling, allowing for precise cutting and minimal human intervention.
Norman and AC Celik, the co-founding brothers of the Sun Valley, Californiabased company, have introduced two premium lines — Monoleggera and Reventon — to their exclusive portfolio of highline wheels.
F
orgiato (“forged” in Italian) manufactures luxury alloy wheels for high-performance vehicles such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Built in their factory/ warehouse to jewel-like specifications, Forgiato’s 20 custom wheel styles are available in various sizes and almost unlimited finishes. The new lines are both onepiece artworks. Introduced in early 2009, the Monoleggera, retailing at $6,000 a set, is a one-piece forged wheel that is light and strong, while the Reventon, retailing at $2,200 per set, are less expensive but offer all the exclusivity of Forgiato, Gary explains.
6
Monoleggera is available in 19 through 24 inch while Reventon is available in 18-24. The Celik brothers and their team only use the highest quality 6061-t6 forged aluminum in their wheels, crafted in either one- or three-piece configurations. The “6061” is the aerospace grade aluminum Forgiato uses — the same alloy in jets and advanced aeronautical and weapons systems. The “t6” is the level of hardness the process achieves by heat. “We are a true wheel manufacturer,” says Gary Tegeleci, the company’s marketing director. “We
custom build all of our wheels to perfectly fit any car.” Forgiato wheels are car jewelry — designed by jewelers with their unique dedication to expression, performance and reliability. Before they began customizing and selling premium wheels some 15 years ago, AC was a diamond setter and Norman a goldsmith. “Our wheels have to be seen to appreciate the drastic curves and fine detail we put into each one,” Norman says. “And, when you add to that all the experience we have in actual fitment of wheels, the final Forgiato product is unparalleled.” Forgiato incorporates the latest technology and advancements in aluminum
Automotive Street Style | March 2010 | Forgiato Wheels
“We have combined our knowledge of the art of jewelry manufacturing with technological advancements in CNC automation,” Norman says. “The end result: wheels that look and perform like fine Piaget watches.” Forging shapes materials under heat and pressure by a mechanical or hydraulic press — similar to the natural process that creates diamonds, AC explains. This heats but does not melt the alloy materials — preventing impurities or air bubbles to join with the alloy. Because of this quality manufactured surface, Forgiato wheels offer superior finishes, for chroming or powder coating, and more strength with less weight. “Less weight equals faster acceleration, superior braking and much better handling,” Norman
explains. “The buyer ends up with a high-performance wheel made specifically for his or her vehicle.” The new Monoleggera and Reventon lines continue this tradition of craftsmanship. Monoleggera wheels optimize the wheel’s strength-to-weight ratio by minimizing unsprung weight — improving a vehicle’s overall performance. “They are technically precise and stylishly beautiful,” Gary says. For fitments, Monoleggera wheels are engineered to meet the requirements of any high-performance vehicle, accommodating custom brakes, suspension upgrades and any other customization. “Forgiato is committed to create a customized Monoleggera wheel everytime — a wheel that is precisely engineered to perfectly fit your car and your lifestyle,” Gary explains. “This state-of-the art wheel has captured the hearts and minds of high-performance enthusiasts, with its featherlight weight and unique
designs you expect only from Forgiato,” he says. The value-oriented Reventon is the company’s answer to automotive enthusiasts who wanted affordability and the quality of a Forgiato wheel. Standard finishes include chrome, matte black and machined finishes, but you choose from all of the color and finish options offered by Forgiato. The Reventon wheels also offer unique insert options. Reventon will not only deliver unique Forgiato designs but also extreme fitments such as a seveninch lip for Range Rover, Camaro, BMW, MercedesBenz and others. “These extreme fitments are achieved not by trickery or illusions but from years of experience, along with engineering and research and development,” Gary explains. “In 2010, Reventon will be the buzz of the wheel industry and will stand apart.”

eople say clothes make the man. But when it comes to the best European cars, while a dramatic appearance, high style and brilliant craftsmanship are always in evidence, it’s the engines that make them special. Bentley, Ferrari, and Porsche prove this time and time again.
torque and boasts a redline of 9000 rpm. A seven-speed dual clutch transmission conducts output to the rear wheels. Weighing in at just over 3000 pounds, the aluminum-bodied beauty uses that V8 to crack 60 from zero in about three seconds and top out at 202 miles per hour.
For 2010, Bentley has unleashed the most potent version of the Continental GT ever, the 621-horsepower Continental Supersports. Featuring a 6.0-liter twinturbocharged 12-cylinder that also pumps out 590 ft-lbs of torque for all four wheels to share, the Continental Supersports (with a curb weight of nearly 5,000 pounds!) screams past 60 in just under four seconds. Capable of propelling the big coupe to 204 miles per hour, the engine runs on pure gasoline, ethanol, or any combination of the two. Today’s mid-engine Ferrari is the 458 Italia. In traditional Ferrari practice, the number 458 conveys the displacement of the engine and the number of cylinders it employs. In this case, a 4.5-liter V8 delivers 562 horsepower, 398 ft-lbs of
“The Ferrari screams, the Bentley burbles and the Porsche howls. “
8
Say the words “Porsche Turbo” in any gathering of automotive enthusiasts; reverent nods and knowing smiles ensue. Featuring the first all-new engine in the model’s history, the 2011 911 Turbo S uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat six to generate 530 horsepower and 516 ft-lbs of torque for delivery to all four wheels. Transmission of choice is Porsche’s own sevenspeed dual clutch transmission (aka as PDK, for Porsche-
Doppelkupplungsgetriebe). Pushing a curb weight of just over 3600 pounds, the Turbo S engine asserts a three second zero to 60 and a top speed of around 200 miles per hour. As much as we love these engines, the one thing we can’t convey here is the sounds they make. Each possesses an aural signature unmistakably its own. The Ferrari screams, the Bentley burbles and the Porsche howls. For those in the know, hearing their voices is just as good as seeing the cars when it comes to identifying them. As for having the privilege of blipping the throttle on one these when ever you desire? There’s nothing we can say that hasn’t already been heard.

hen GM dared to release a redesigned smallblock in 1997, it succeeded beyond the expectations of enthusiasts around the world. Known as the LS Family V-8 small-block, the first and most popular version is the high-performance LS1 –available here as a complete crate engine from GM Performance Parts. In many ways, the LS1 is superior to any smallblock that came before it. A deep-skirt, six-boltmain block, with structural oil pan and other carefully engineered features, helps make the LS1 a strong,

smooth running and dependable engine. A highlift camshaft actuating big 2.00/1.55 valves in symmetrical-port cylinder heads helps make it a uncompromised performer.
The engine is rated at 350 horsepower and 365 lb.ft. of torque. The engine includes a GTO-style oil pan, electronic drivebywire throttle body, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, fuel rail with injectors, balancer, and 14” automatic transmission flexplate. It makes a great performance engine for your performance vehicle project – just add your wiring and electronics.

S
omewhere in Southern California – a world of movies, magic, and make believe – is Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage, a place not without its fair share of magic itself. Spread across two lowslung buildings cooked by the sun, is one of the world’s great car collections and one of the world’s best-equipped garages custom-built from the ground up to keep everything running in tip-top shape. The garage itself is about 17,000 square feet, sizeable, to say the least, for a private garage, which is enough space to work on about a dozen cars at any one given time. About a quarter of that space is taken up
by the machine shop, which includes a massive amount of equipment. Since you can’t exactly go down to the local auto shop for parts from pre-teen cars, the garage is geared up to fabricate parts and do just about all required work in house: a CNC Mill, a water jet cutter, sheet metal equipment, a lathe, a regular mill, and welding equipment from Tig and Mig to name some shop highlights. The garage is also home to a gourmet kitchen where Jay shows off his culinary skills for his staff and other visitors. Besides being an avid car collector and mechanic, Jay also likes to cook and can often be found preparing food, especially when on hiatus from The Tonight Show.

Community Clinical Update: Children and Divorce C Merlelynn S. Harris, M.S., MFT
hildren all around us in our community are hurting, and most of us are totally unaware. In the last fifty years, divorce and the separation of cohabiting couples has become a familiar occurrence in Western culture. With the current stressful economic times being what they are the phenomenon is now so widespread that current estimates in the U.S. place the divorce rate for those recently married at 50%, and the rate for recent “remarrieds” at 60%. Of those who divorce or separate each year, almost two-thirds have minor children (Cherlin & Furstenburg, 1994). The reactions of most children and adults to divorce and its aftermath are quite varied. Many families demonstrate ample resilience and do not seek or require any form of treatment or counseling. However, at the other end of the spectrum, there is evidence that children and adults in families experiencing divorce are 2-3 times more likely to seek mental health
treatment than members of families in which there has been no parental separation. Accordingly, most Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) see a significant number of families who need help adjusting to the changes brought about by marital separation and divorce. Research suggests that one-third of former spouses
skills, are in a unique position to provide the necessary interventions in a manner sensitive to how divorce sends ripples of change throughout the nuclear and extended families. MFTs’ training provides a lens through which families, although changed by the process of divorce, are not considered broken. Current educational and therapeutic interventions emphasize developing personal and family understanding and ensuring children’s well-being by establishing coparenting relationships, creating parenting plans, and enhancing the parenting skills of both parents.
Professional, caring help is available and there is always hope.

have notable difficulty in establishing healthy adult relationships with each other after divorce, and about 5 –15% fail in this endeavor completely. Onequarter of children whose parents are separating, divorcing, or remarrying have adjustment difficulties, as compared to about 10% of those whose families are not disrupted by divorce (Ahrons, 1994; Hetherington, Bridges, & Insabella, 1998). Marriage and Family Therapists, with their systemic understanding of families and their clinical
Divorce disrupts family relationships and propels family members, particularly children, into numerous adjustments. Children’s adjustment to divorce is associated in varying degrees with parental conflict and adjustment, parenting skills of the residential parent, involvement of the non- residential parent, economic conditions, and other life stresses (Amato,

parental consistency.
Children’s symptoms of anxiety and depression are associated with children feeling responsible for, or caught in the middle of, parental conflict. Examples of being caught in the middle include being asked to carry messages between parents, hearing disparaging comments about the other parent, and feeling pressured to be disloyal. In response to parental conflict and anger, children under age 5 may cry, act out, regress, or try to distract parents. Children age 6 to middle adolescence may try to intervene in the conflict. One cue that parental conflict is too high is children’s repeated attempts to reduce the conflict (Amato, 1993; Cummings & Davies, 1994; Grych & Fincham, 1997; Hetherington, 1999; Kelly & Yingling, 1998). Helping children adjust to divorce often necessitates assisting parents to move beyond their anger with one another to develop an effective co-parent relationship that maintains
As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) I encourage all of the readers to consider getting licensed professional help if they should find themselves or someone they know in this situation. Professional,
caring help is available and there is always hope. There are many services in the community to help from counseling centers to private practice, both secular and faith-based.
