From The Publisher Ok, it’s summer and as usual our thoughts are consumed by all of the activities that summer brings; family vacations, road trips and getaways, staying cool in an air-conditioned environment, etc. These summer activities bring to mind energy. Energy is becoming the biggest cost in our lives. At the gas pump, we’ve seen prices skyrocket and this past winter, we felt the pinch in our heating bills. Most of us are thinking twice about how far we’ll travel to our summer vacation destinations. The fact is, there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight and the cost of energy will, inevitably, affect the way we live. In this issue of Automotive Street Style, we have made a conscious decision to not only look at “all things automotive” but to also consider some of the issues that affect our everyday lives. Energy, ie. gas and other forms of fuel are one of those issues. The spill in the Gulf will have long lasting effects not only on our lives, but also the lives of our children and generations to come. Will the cost of fuel cause us to live differently, drive less? Will we do more shopping online to save gas? Will we take more thought about how we build and perhaps build more energy-efficient buildings?

What’s New: Stop & Stare VW/Audi Edition

« VF ENGINEERING: Intake for VW 2.0T VF Engineering 714.528.0066
www.vf-accessories.com VF Engineering has developed an intake system for the VW 2.0T, using state-of-theart CAD/CAM 3D modeling, CNC machining, and computer-controlled Superflow airflow testing. The VF intake system features a deflector that serves two purposes. The first is to channel cold air from the grille to the air filter, the second is to block radiant heat from the coolant hoses and engine. $275

» NEUSPEED: Intercooler Kit Neuspeed
 805.388.7171
www.neuspeed.com The stock intercooler on the MkV GTI and Jetta is sandwiched between the radiator and the A/C condenser, not an ideal placement. Neuspeed has developed an intercooler kit that relocates it in front of the condenser for optimal cooling. The kit consists of a large front-mount core with cast aluminum end tanks and a combination of silicone and aluminum plumbing. $1,099

» TM TUNING: LED Taillights TM Tuning
 866.206.9072
www.tmtuning.com TM Tuning offers OEM European parts to eager American consumers. One example is this set of LED taillights for the MkV GTI/Rabbit. Compared to the factory lights, the LED lamps are a deep red color, giving a tinted effect. $449

« MILLTEK: Exhaust System Milltek
 866.533.1777
www.stratmosphere.com Milltek has developed a full 2.75inch stainless steel turbo-back exhaust system for the 2008 MkII Audi TT 2.0T FWD. The system features a 200-cell high-flow metallic sport catalytic converter for optimal flow without the pesky ‘check engine’ light. Milltek offers three different rear muffler sections, each with a different tip design: standard twin, dual single, or quadtip. $TBA

» MUTOL: Motor Oil Motul
 909.625.1292
www.motul.com VW/Audi has established a rating system to ensure the oil used in their engines is of the desired quality, so you have to be concerned about using type-specific oil. Modern engine oil does more than just lubricate, it plays a role in emissions and mileage. Motul has developed oils to comply with 505.01, 502.00, and 505.00 requirements. $9.20 per liter

» H2 SPORTS: Sports Spindle H2 Sport
 905.702.8299
www.h2sport.com An often-overlooked problem when lowering a vehicle is the negative effect on suspension geometry. Sometimes geometry can be altered enough to decrease front suspension camber gain-an important factor in keeping the largest possible tire contact patch. Dramatic changes can also cause the front control arms to bind. H2 Sport has developed a Sport Spindle that restores the camber curve and returns the control arms to a nominal position. Applications: Audi A3 and VW MkV. $TBA www.automotivestreetstyle.com

Street Style’s Inside Scoop!

bugatti galibier

According to various sources, the 2013 Bugatti Galibier will be the production version of the four-door concept car. Apparently, the company will build only 300 units of the 2013 Bugatti Galibier. This is a lot fewer than the Veyron which will go out of production in 2012.

CADILLAC CONVERJ

Incorporating the propulsion system from the Chevy Volt—the battery pack, the 120-kilowatt electric motor, and the fourcylinder engine-generator, collectively dubbed the “Voltec” electric propulsion system—the Converj has an all-electric range of 40 miles (64 km) and a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).

HYUNDAI VELOSTER

We expect the production car to feature a 140 horsepower 1.6-liter 4 cylinder engine capable of something just north of 40 mpg for the standard powerplant – with the possibility for either a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder engine as a premium offering.
