mobile electronics Usually referred to by the brand name Dynamat, such as Kleenex or Q-tips, sound damping material is manufactured by many different companies such as Sound Skins, Hushmat, Stinger Roadkill, and Dynamat. They all use different formulas in their material and in their adhesive to offer a product that will do the job intended and with the best performance, but the idea behind it is nothing new to the automotive industry. The intended purpose is to use material to add mass to the existing panels in the vehicle to lower the resonance of the panel it is applied to. Everything has a resonant frequency, or a frequency at which an object vibrates dependent on its physical parameters, and that can be changed by adding mass to the object (such as a door panel, trunk lid, roof, etc). The benefit is that this helps lower the noise floor inside the vehicle (most quiet a vehicle will be inside) thus adding more to the dynamic range of an audio system without having to add a lot more power to achieve the same effect. This can give you a much more pleasing audio sound and help achieve the best performance
Sound Damping Material Advantages
from even lower priced audio equipment for a reasonable investment. A few added side benefits to sound damping in a vehicle is the quieter ride, better heating and cooling retention, and the elimination of annoying rattles. We always start an audio system build with high quality Sound Skins material to give us a proper foundation to build from and help our clients get the most from their equipment, this is a reasonable investment for something that will never break and add to the performance of your vehicle’s audio system. â–

in Red”— you would think would be an easy request— “O ne as you will soon learn, this was not the case. We fell in love with this rare “bull” back in early 2017 when we first saw the beautiful 2004 Rosso Andromeda red colored Lamborghini Murcielago. You might recall this car as one of the ten AutoUrge Cover Car Contest finalists last year as well.
This amazing super car is owned locally by Naseer Ahmad. Naseer is an Airline pilot and in his extra time, this Army veteran is a Helicopter Flight Instructor for Metro Air Support (The Eye in the Sky). This is Naseer’s dream car and as he mentioned to us: ‘Most likely his first and last’, as this car is a result of a year long search. Naseer is a fan of the Miura styling and this car shares the same styling ques as the Miura, Countach and Diablo… all 3 classic and desired Lamborghini models. As Naseer explained “It had to be red…Rosso Andromeda red, very low miles and in great condition.” Patience and effort paid off. Not only is it the color he wanted, the car has only 11,000 miles to date and is extremely clean. Naseer is the 3rd owner of this car with previous owners’ only putting about
5,000 miles each on the car. What made the search so difficult? The pre-LP Murcielago was introduced in 2001 and was available until 2006. In 2004, 384 units were produced with only 250 making it to the states. Furthermore in 2004, only 5 in Rosso Andromeda red were produced as a coupe. In total, only 3,000 coupes were ever produced between 2001-2010 worldwide. It is easy to see the attraction Naseer has with this car–especially given his profession. The car is low and sleek, many air intakes, a cockpit interior favoring the driver and as Naseer stated “I like the fact that the early Murcielago is almost a no-frills car with virtually no amenities…like it was meant to be. Inside it is very loud, uncomfortable, and is work to drive. It requires your full attention to drive and will bite you in an instant. With all that, I wouldn’t want it any other way.” Naseer also loves the scissor doors (Lambo doors). Who can blame him. Continued on Page 10

Consider yourself lucky if you ever get the chance to see this car in person. You would be hard pressed to find a cleaner and nicer 2004 anywhere, much less here in the Show Me state. Car Care If you are an avid driveway detailer, you have most definitely heard of F11 TopCoat and more recently, HydroSilex Recharge. Both of these products took the internet by storm with their claims of easy application, professional level results, and amazing hydrophobic effects. With F11 TopCoat, it was very clear that the company was using the Internet hype train to their advantage despite the product failing to deliver their stated longevity. Despite the similar marketing techniques, Recharge seems to hold up much better than the F11 TopCoat. I was able to get my hands on the latest trend after a quick run to see the awesome guys out at St. Louis Auto Detail, who just so happened to have some in stock! Application Process Recharge can be applied using two different methods which I will outline briefly.

Product Review: HydroSilex Recharge For both methods of application, you will want to do a thorough hand wash to ensure the surface is free of topical contaminants and free of debris as they can hinder the performance of any sealant or coating if not removed prior to application. Wet Application: The more intriguing method is the wet application. The directions tell you to wash the car and rinse all soap off the vehicle. After this is completed, the user would spray a fine mist of Recharge onto one wet panel at a time, then immediately rinse off. I tested the wet method first and found it to streak and spot very easily. Even on my girlfriend’s white Mazda 3, I had major streaking issues. This is fine and dandy if you don’t have a show car, and a good sign because it means the product has a significant amount of silica content resulting is a level of protection greater
car care (cont) than most waxes and synthetic sealants. Dry Application: The second method is like most other spray sealants. Mist onto the surface after a thorough wash, clay and quick polish and buff off with a clean microfiber towel.
least two to three months before re-application will be needed. This is a far cry from the eight month advertising from Hydrosilex, but isn’t disappointing given the ease of application
The dry application is a much easier and more efficient method of application. It produces a similar level of gloss and protection to most off the shelf spray waxes and sealant from the auto parts store. Durability Like all sealants, proper prep is key to maximum durability. I did not clay my girlfriend’s Mazda and it seemed to hold up for a few weeks before the beading became very lackluster. I’m testing a handful of sealants on my brother’s new Silverado 2500 and prepped the surface with a clay bar and a thorough wipe down with IGL PreCoat. This process should remove all residue from past applications of waxes and sealants. Given my thorough prep process, I would expect this product to last at
I also do not know if I would truly call it a ceramic coating as it only lasts up to an advertised eight months. Most professional level ceramic coatings will have hydrophobic properties that last longer than a year; some even up to three or four with proper maintenance. If you are really looking for a fantastic level of protection that lasts for years, Hydrosilex cannot replace the professional level coatings from IGL Coatings, Ceramic Pro, and Opti-Coat.
Final Thoughts At $35 for a 16oz bottle, I’m not 100% sure I’ll be buying another bottle. There are plenty of spray sealants that are easier to apply, have similar longevity, and are much more friendly on the wallet. I went through the 16oz bottle rather quickly in my testing and never really experienced the same hydrophobic effect shown in the marketing videos or remotely close to the remarkable hydrophobic properties of IGL Premier that requires far less product per vehicle.
