those 40 years and what has not, I would say, the only thing that has not CHANGED is that things are constantly changing. Here are a few of my observations of key changes over those 40 years.

My first business trip from Switzerland to the US was 35 years ago. There were no smartphones or internet, and it would be a week before you would have any idea what was going on back in the home office or with your family and friends. Today we are all fully connected 24/7 around the globe. When I wake up, I may have a full report of APG’s activities in Malaysia, or Australia, and questions from the Swiss offices will already be piling up in e-mails. And we quickly get on a video conference with people on every continent. It truly is a fully connected world.

Growing up it was common for somebody in Switzerland to finish school, find a job at one of the large Swiss Banks, and stay until retirement, often for over 4 decades in the same office

1970’s and 80’s do not exist anymore.

As Co-Vice Chairman of VOXX International (where APG is one of the largest shareholders) I have been amazed to see the changes in the consumer electronics world over the last 6 decades. I am reminded of those changes with the company display of products they have been involved in over the past decades in its boardroom in New York. There is a car phone (VOXX was the world market leader 3 decades ago), walkie talkies, and many other products which do not exist anymore.

Well, to be in business means to deal with changes. I think you need to constantly take calculated risks or small risks, and some bigger ones, like me moving 3 decades ago from Switzerland to the US.

You often need to abandon plans, change, and start all over. I do not personally know Mark Zukerberg, but I agree with him that the biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that is changing so rapidly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks. Move fast and break things. Unless you are breaking stuff you are not moving fast enough.

When people ask me, why is the US is so successful with innovations, my answer is quick: we do have a culture where you can try, fail and try again. In many cultures people do not take the risk to start a business because of fear of failure. In some countries if your business fails, it is a big stigma. Not in the US. You can have second, third and even fourth chances.

“Tomorrow Starts Today” is a slogan AdventHealth uses, and I like it. Start your business today, and contact us at The 5th Floor (Info@The5thFloorOrlando.com) to see how we can assist you on moving your business forward.

Happy March!

March commemorates Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the resilience and fortitude of women while recognizing the hurdles they’ve surmounted. March 8th marks International Women’s Day, an opportunity to honor women’s achievements across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres worldwide. It serves as a poignant reminder to acknowledge the fortitude, bravery, and perseverance of the remarkable women in our community. Keeping with this theme, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners has officially designated March 3rd through 9th as “Women in Construction Week” in Orange County.

We have other events going on in Orange County as well. On Thursday March 21st, Orange County will be hosting a town hall meeting in District 4 to discuss the possibility of

reintroducing Mayor Jerry Demings’ Transportation Sales Tax Proposal. Orange County staff will be hosting meetings across the County to resume discussions on their transportation proposal. This meeting will be a good opportunity to share your feedback on this proposal and speak directly with County staff. I encourage anyone interested to attend this informative event on the 21st. Please stay tuned to learn the location of the event once it is finalized.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like to receive my newsletter, you can email me at district4@ocfl.net or call my office at 407-836-5881. You can also meet me in person at one of my two satellite office locations. On the first Wednesdays of the month you can meet me at the East Orange Community Center (12050 E Colonial Dr) or on the Third Wednesdays of the month at the Meadow Woods Recreation Center (1751 Rhode Island

Woods Cir). My time at both locations is from 10am to 12pm. Thank you again!

Cheers to Jose Lebron’s 100th Birthday!

If you’ve ever visited Encore at Avalon Park Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, chances are you have met the beloved “mayor” of Encore, Jose Lebron. Jose’s warm smile and friendly demeanor have made him a fixture in the front lobby, where he greets families and guests as they come and go through the front doors.

“When I think about Encore, I first always think about Jose,” says Beat Kahli, President and CEO of Avalon Park Group and Encore at Avalon Park. “Every time I am there, I make sure I can see Jose. I love to speak to him, his amazing life, dedication to the Lord, his beloved late wife, his amazing children, and his outstanding career in the military. He is the best Ambassador any company could dream of, he truly represents all residents and the owners’ best interest in Encore, he is my true Cocaptain at Encore! Jose, I love you!”

This Friday afternoon, March 1st, at 2:00 p.m., Jose will be celebrating a momentous occasion: his 100th birthday. Joining him for this special milestone will be his family, friends, fellow residents, and the dedicated teams at Encore and Avalon Park Group.

Originally hailing from Puerto Rico, Jose had a distinguished career in the military, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Army. During his service, he collaborated closely with the Department of Health in Puerto Rico. Jose shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hortensia “Ten,” and is a proud father of three sons, who frequently visit him.

After 30 years of dedicated public service, Jose and his wife relocated to Florida from Puerto Rico to be closer to their family. Settling into Encore on February 1, 2015, Jose became one of the community’s inaugural residents, moving in shortly after its opening. Today, he holds the esteemed title of being the longest-tenured resident at Encore, proudly calling it home for over nine years.

The Avalon Park community is invited to drop by anytime on Friday to extend their well wishes and join in celebrating Jose’s remarkable journey and milestone birthday. Let’s make his special day one to remember!

Unlock Your Maximum Refund: The Power of Keeping Receipts

Are you worried about missing out on potential tax savings and not knowing if you’ve received the maximum refund possible? We understand the anxiety that tax season can bring but have no fear. Nona Tax is here to guide you through the intricate world of tax preparation and show you how keeping receipts and documents can be a game-changer.

Why It Matters?

Have you ever wondered why tax professionals stress the importance of holding on to receipts and financial documents? The answer lies in the potential goldmine of deductions and credits hidden within those seemingly mundane pieces of paper. Every receipt, invoice, and statement can play a pivotal role in ensuring you receive every tax benefit you’re entitled to.

A Money-Saving Habit

One of the primary reasons to diligently keep receipts is to track your expenses. Whether it’s business-related or personal, every expense has the potential to impact your tax liability. Business owners should be meticulous about retaining receipts for expenses such as office supplies, travel, and meals, as these can often be deducted from taxable income, reducing the overall tax burden.

The Audit Shield

In the unfortunate event of an audit, having well-documented receipts acts as your armor. Auditors may request proof of deductions claimed on your tax return, and without the proper documentation, you could find yourself in a challenging situation. By maintaining organized records, you not only support your claims but also expedite the auditing process, saving you time, stress, and potentially more money.

Your Financial Advantage

At Nona Tax, we believe in leaving no stone unturned when it comes to securing your maximum refund. Those seemingly insignificant receipts can add up to significant savings. From medical expenses to charitable contributions, each eligible deduction contributes to your financial advantage. Our experienced team navigates the complex tax landscape to ensure you benefit from every available credit and deduction, putting more money back in your pocket.

Tips for Organizing Your Receipts:

• Go Digital: Consider scanning and storing receipts electronically. This not only reduces paper clutter but also provides a secure backup in case physical copies are lost.

• Categorize Effectively: Create a system for categorizing receipts. Whether it’s by expense type or date, an organized structure simplifies the process of locating specific documents when needed.

• Regular Reviews: Set aside time to review and organize your receipts. This practice not only keeps you informed about your financial situation but also ensures that you don’t miss out on any potential deductions.

Your Journey to Maximum Refunds Starts Here

At Nona Tax, we understand the concerns that surround tax season, and we’re committed to making the process seamless for you. By acknowledging the importance of keeping receipts, you take a proactive step towards securing the maximum refund possible. Let us be your partner in this journey, guiding you through the intricacies of tax preparation and ensuring that no opportunity for savings is left untapped. Contact us today, and let’s unlock your financial potential together!

ELCOC will continue to work in partnership with several community agencies in our efforts to serve the maximum number of children in the most costeffective, and customer-focused manner possible.

Heart of a Hero

More than 5,000 neighbors and friends are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant across the state of Florida. These individuals join the more than 100,000 U.S. children and adults whose only hope is someone saying, “Yes,” to organ donation. Orlando resident, Don Anacker, knows what it was like to be sick and to wait. In November 2011, he received the phone call that changed his life. A family said “Yes” to organ donation, and he would receive the Gift of Life through a new heart. Don and his wife, Maxine, came to learn his hero’s name, Trevin Reddick. With time, the family became close with Trevin’s mother, Renee Jones.

“Every day that goes by is deeply treasured,” said Anacker. “What most organ recipients, their caretakers, in my case my wife Maxine, experience is indescribable and unimaginable. Through the Gift of Life, Renee and her family made it possible for me to become a recipient of her son’s heart.”

Today, the Anacker family holds a close and personal relationship with their hero’s extended family. Renee joins Don in honoring her son for making life possible for others. Together, they celebrate Trevin’s Gift of Life and educate the community on the impact one “yes” makes.

“This is by far the hardest challenge I have ever faced in my life, to work to earn this precious gift. Trevin provides me with life, and we are together as one every day,” said Anacker.

Approximately 17 Americans die each day waiting for a phone call that never comes. Each person has the power to save eight lives through vital organ donation, give sight to two people through cornea donation and provide healing and mobility to 75 more through tissue donation. Don honored his hero, Trevin, at the annual GR8 to DON8 Run for Organ Donation, Central Florida’s premier race celebrating the Gift of Life. One of the many ways he continually thanks his hero.

Every day the caring community registers as lifesaving organ, eye, and tissue donors when renewing their driver’s license. Show us your heart! If you are a registered donor we invite

you to join us at GR8 to DON8 Run for Organ Donation on April 6th in Longwood, Florida. Goodwill To Host Monthlong Spring Cleaning Initiative in March

As families prepare to enjoy a spring break from school or work, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is launching a monthlong “Spring Cleaning” initiative.

Between March 1 – 31, Goodwill is asking neighbors to sort through old clothing and shoes that can be donated at one of its 16 Donation Xpress locations in Orange, Osceola, Brevard, Volusia, Seminole and Lake counties. These drive-up facilities provide a more convenient way to donate.

Clothing is always needed and highest in demand, with shoes and housewares following close behind.

Donations allow Goodwill to provide low-cost goods to the community while also generating resources and jobs for Central Floridians. Revenue earned through the sales of gently used items finances the organization’s employment placement and job skills training services.

COMMUNITY

Fostering Global Leadership: Rotary’s Commitment to Youth and Community

Within the vibrant community of Avalon Park, the Rotary Club is a vital resource for community service and leadership, dedicated to making a difference both locally and globally. This commitment is embodied in the club’s efforts to empower the next generation through educational and cultural exchanges, fostering a spirit of understanding and collaboration among youth from diverse backgrounds.

Sabrina Dussault, the club’s District Youth Exchange Chair, a few years ago hosted a Youth Exchange Student from Taiwan, an experience that not only enriched her family’s life but also ignited a passion for fostering global understanding and cooperation.

Her adventures didn’t stop at hosting; they expanded across the globe, travelling to 16 different countries with her family. These travels opened her eyes to the transformative power of cultural exchange, inspiring her to dive deeper into the opportunities Rotary offers for youth engagement and global learning. Her experiences, both as a host and a traveler, underscored the belief that every young person should have the opportunity to explore the world and face the challenges that foster personal and familial growth.

The passion for making a difference in the lives of young people led to the appointment of our dedicated Rotarian as the Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound Chair for District 6980. In the wake of the pandemic, when the need for leadership was most acute, this role was embraced with enthusiasm and a clear vision. Inspired by the memory of a Rotarian who once filled a similar role, our Chair

is driven by the ambition to create opportunities for youth that are both life-changing and horizon-expanding.

The responsibilities of this role are comprehensive, focusing on promoting exchange opportunities, engaging Rotary Clubs in sponsorship, and ensuring the meticulous preparation of students for their journeys abroad. The objective is clear: to facilitate successful exchanges that not only benefit the students but also strengthen the global Rotary community. Through collaboration with schools and educators, our goal is to make these opportunities known to every student, encouraging them to embark on their own journeys of discovery and growth.

The recent commitment from the Rotary Club of Avalon Park to host a student for the 2024-25 school year marks a significant milestone under Sabrina’s leadership. This commitment is not just about hosting; it’s a testament to the club’s dedication to global understanding and the enriching experiences these exchanges bring to both the students and the host communities.

Engaging young leaders through Rotaract and Interact Clubs is a pivotal strategy, and it’s one that Sabrina passionately embraces. By sharing her experiences and passion, she aims to inspire a new generation to participate in these transformative programs. Her ambitious efforts to connect with over 100 schools within District 6980 reflect an unwavering determination.

As Sabrina’s journey unfolds, her role continues to evolve, drawing more Rotarians and community members to support the cause. Through her leadership, the Rotary Club of Avalon Park and District 6980 are setting new standards for youth engagement and international exchange. Sabrina’s message to young leaders is clear: the world needs your talents, your passion, and your involvement. Together, we can create a future where every young person has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a more understanding and connected world.
