LEARN Start your summer off with a bang at the 10th Annual Avalon Park Fourth of July Festival Monday, July 4th from 5-9 pm. This annual event celebrating our country will feature a bike parade, community performances, a baking contest and much more. PAGE 7

The evening will begin with a performance at the event’s stage by the Thomas E. Weightman Middle School Marching Band at 5:30 pm, followed by singing performances from the Wesley Chapel Theater Group. Bring your family and friends together to decorate a patriotic bike, stroller or wagon to the bike parade starting at 6 pm! Parade line up will begin at 5:45 pm at the River Glen Amenity Center playground. Participants will show off their creation around River Glen Blvd and winners will be announced at the end of the night. Participants are encouraged to sign up here ahead of time. Think you can cook the best apple pie? Register online here to test your skills. All desserts must be handed in at the Amenity Center Clubhouse by 5:30 pm on July 4th. The winner will be announced at 8 pm and first place wins a $100 gift card prize! Around 30 local businesses, artisan or craft vendors will be set up around the event area, along with seven food vendors. The community can also enjoy activities such as face painting, caricature artists, balloon twisters, a bounce park and stilt walkers throughout the night. End the night with a bang at the fireworks show starting at 9 pm.

Having spent almost exactly half of my life in the United States of America and the other half of my life in Switzerland, I am often asked which country do you like better. And it is a question to which I do not have the answer. I love America and I love Switzerland.

Update from Pasco County Commissioner I hope you and your family had a wonderful start to summer during June. Please make sure you get out this summer and enjoy all the beautiful activities we have to offer in Pasco County. During the month of June, Pasco County Commission approved agenda items that will bring up to 5 million square feet of industrial and office uses to our community, located near the Interstate 75 and State Road 52 area. Over the last eight years, we’ve worked hard as a team to bring high paying jobs to improve the quality of life for our citizens and ensure Pasco County is not just a bedroom community for our neighboring counties. I’m thrilled to welcome these jobs to our community in the near future. At our June 21st Commission meeting, I was honored to sponsor a resolution recognizing the GFWC Lutz
Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club. Since being founded 62 years ago, the club has donated over one million volunteer hours and raised almost three million dollars in service to our community. Along with Independence Day, this month brings one of my favorite family activities, scalloping! Pasco County’s 2022 scallop season will be from July 15th through July 24th. Not only is scalloping fun, it is great for economic development and tourism on the west side of Pasco. As the summer continues, please make sure you check out all the resources Pasco County has to offer!
