Headlines Jagan Reddy Routs Congress, Sweeps by polls Jailed MP Jagan Mohan Reddy drove a point home during the by-polls which have been touted as the Semi-finals before the 2014 State Assembly elections. Riding on a strong sympathy wave the newly formed YSR Congress humiliated the Congress party by bagging 15 out of the 18 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in by-elections in Andhra Pradesh in a showing that this could be a political gamechanger in the state. Congress managed to save some face bagging two seats while its main opposition the Telugu Desam party faced a complete rout and major embarrassment by drawing blank on the board. The TRS though managed to gain a victory albeit on a slender lead in a the lone seat fought in the Telangana region. After these results the Congress saw its majority reduced to seven seats while the YSR congress increasing its tally to 17, while the final analysis states that Congress has lost 14 of the 16 seats it won in the 2009 election. By-polls were necessitated in 16 of the 18 assembly seats due to disqualification of sitting Congress MLAs who switched loyalty to Jagan and voted against Congress government during a no-trust vote in December last.
AP Emerges as Most Unsafe for Women in South: Where is Andhra Pradesh heading towards? Women in our state are reluctant to go out alone in the night time or stay alone; unlike the women of other metro cities that is because Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the most unsafe place among the four South Indian states according to data collated by the National Crime Bureau (NCRB). Andhra had the most registered cases of crime against women and the worst of incidents or rape and sexual offences on all aspects including the number of cases reported and number of persons arrested charge-sheeted and convicted. Infact, the state has the highest sexual harassment cases and double the number of cases registered when compared to the other states , the worrying trend here is that this has been the case for the past three years. There were 4,562 cases of sexual harassment in AP last year, the figure was 83 for Karnataka, 537 for Kerala and 638 for Tamil Nadu. According to the NCRB data the safest place for women is Karnataka which reported the least number of cases in both categories of rape and sexual harassment.

India’s industrial output growth flat lined in April, piling pressure on policy makers to cut rates and revive the economic fortunes of the BRIC nation that Standard & Poor’s warned could be downgraded to junk status because of political inaction. The agency revised its outlook on India’s BBB-long-term sovereign credit rating to negative from stable. The ratings agency said India’s leaders had strayed from the path of economic liberalisation and the country could become the first of the BRIC nations — Brazil, Russia, India and China— to lose its investment grade credit rating. High inflation and interest rates, splits in the top leadership and the euro zone debt crisis have weighed on India for more than a year. Headlines Pranabda For President says Congress After a lot of debate, suspense and an array of potential candidates, the Congress party finally named Pranab Mukherjee its candidate. While trying to appease two of its most powerful ally’s the BSP and the more wavering TMC. On a day when the party was losing by-polls across the nation they managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat by convincing Mulayam Singh Yadav and weaning him away from his opportunistic partnership with Mamta Di and getting him to support Pranab Mukherjee. Throughout the week the Congress high command was in utter dilemma and even greater pressure to choose a candidate being absolutely clean bearing in mind the string of corruption cases the party’s been hit by. And who else but Pranab Mukherjee, Congress and Sonia Gandhi’s “Crisis Man” to fill in the position, the Congress seems to have won the day against Mamta Di and the BJP led opposition, its still not clear who will fill in the hot seat of being an “FM” after Pranab Mukherjee. With A P J Abdul almost slated to refuse BJP’s proposal to run for a second term at the office, there seems to be no candidate in sight to match Mr. Mukherjee’s contest, though this also leaves open the question – who will now be the “Crisis Man” for Congress?
Gram Samvad Yatra : Team Anna to Tour UP Following their debacle to drum up support last year in Mumbai for their anti-corruption crusade and a low mediocre response in Delhi in May this year, Team Anna has decided to tour UP to gain support for its indefinite fast in Delhi. The “Gram Samvad Yatra” as its called will be spearheaded by controversial Team Anna member Manish Sisodia. The team is demanding setting up an Independent Special Investigation team (SIT) to probe the 15 cabinet ministers against whom they have leveled corruption allegations, interesting one of those fifteen ministers is Prime minister Manmohan Singh himself. The team has also demanded setting fast track courts against the 15 ministers. In the first phase - from June 18 to 22 - the team will travel to villages in Saharanpur, Bhagpat and Shamli districts, while in the second phase from June 25 to 29, Team Anna will visit villages around Meerut, Muzzafarnagar, Bijnor and Roorkee. The third phase will be from July 2 to 6 and would cover villages in Noida, Bulandshahr and Aligarh and the last phase of yatra would take place in Ghaziabad, Hapur, JP Nagar and Moradabad from July 8 to 12. One can only hope that Team Anna doesn’t meet with the lack lustre response he is getting from the Metro’s, since this is a state which has chosen goondaism over corruption.
Socialist gain huge in France emerge victorious in Parliament elections French President Francois Hollande’s anit-austerity drive received a great response as his socialist party seized victory in the country’s parliament election. The Socialists won between 308 and 320 seats in the 577-member National Assembly, clearing the way for Hollande to implement his centre-left programme without having to depend on other leftist factions or the opposition. This is first time in history of the 54 years, a republic party has so much power. This win puts the socialists in control of both the houses of parliament for the first time. By winning an outright majority in the National Assembly, the government will be able to push through the cuts without having to negotiate for the support of the Communist-backed Left Front.

An entrepreneur, who started from a small crockery house, is now the owner of one of the largest player in the retail industry. PCH is identified as a company of “Quality Products” with “Value for Money” and has an ever increasing portfolio of products like consumer durable products, mobile phones, IT products, furniture, crockery and clothing brands like Tommy Hilfiger, French Connection, Calvin Klein and many more pan India.
Tell us something about your business? PCH (Punjab Crockery House) was started in the 1950’s by my father and the crockery house was a landmark name in the city. It has been 37 years since I joined the business. From the early 80’s we started diversifying into various categories like consumer durables and non- durables. Our next step was becoming the largest distributors in Hyderabad for Nokia mobile phone handsets, and thereafter we are continually adding on to our brand brigade with various brands of electronics, clothing, sunglasses etc.

What are your future plans for PCH? Hmm.. We started with a single store and now have a count of 85 stores across India. My plan for the company is to further diversify into various fields and bring in many more brands under the umbrella of PCH and shoot up the number of stores to a 100 in the coming two months.

2 cups flour 2 cups sugar ½ tea spoon baking powder 1 tea spoon salt 1 tea spoon baking soda ½ cup shortening ¾ cup water 2 large eggs 3/4th cup milk 1 tea spoon vanilla (according to flavour) 4 ounces melted unsweetened baking chocolate
INGREDIENTS : 1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken (thighs or breasts, thinly cut) 1 cup plain yogurt, 1/4 cup vinegar 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cardamom pods 1 teaspoon allspice 1 lemon, juice of FOR THE SAUCE 1 cup tahini 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1/4 cup lemon juice 2 tablespoons yogurt
DIRECTION : Preheat oven at 350 degrees; line cupcake pans with paper liners. Combine all ingredients into mixing bowl. Mix at low speed for 30 seconds and scrape bowl. Mix at high speed for 3 minutes. Fill liners ½ to 2/3rd full of batter. Bake for 2- -25 minutes or until tooth pick inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in pans then remove from pan and place on wire racks to cool completely. Frost when chocolate cupcakes are completely cool!

If it seems a little dry, add a little olive oil (a tablespoon at a time). 2) Add chicken, cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours, preferable overnight. 3) Put the mixed chicken on to the shawarma machine rod , start with small pieces at the bottom and gradually put the large pieces upwards. Adjust the rod near to the flame. 4) While chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce. Combine sauce ingredients and mix well. Set aside. 5) The chicken is done when it’s light brown all over, make sure it is thinly cut with a sharp knife. 6) Spread enough chicken on special roti that cover 1/4 of the roti.

Get up from the couch and make it happen. These 4 lower body blaster exercises you will see your thighs downsize and your butt perk-up in 2 weeks. The idea of this exercise routine is to do a short 30min high-intensity metabolic acceleration workout. It will raise your metabolism and after the workout you will still burn bucket-load of calories while sitting on your butt for the rest of the day. You need to do 4 sets of each of the exercises below A set is a 20 seconds of fast hardcore movement, then 10 seconds rest After you finish all of the exercise, you repeat the whole cycle again
Hip lift on the ball This exercise is great for targeting the hips, butt as well as the lower back and the hamstrings. 1. Firstly lie on the ball with the support of neck, head and shoulders, with the bent knees and lifted toes. 2. Keep hold of medium-heavy weights on the hips, if desired. 3. Lower your hips towards the floor to start the move but devoid of rolling on the ball. 4. Compress the gluts to lift hips until your body comes in a straight line. 5. Do again for 1 to 3 sets of 10 to 16 reps. Some other effective exercises to slim your thighs and hips include walking, swimming, running, biking, kickboxing, and wall slide.
FULL SQUAT with a twist 1. Stand in correct posture with feet hip-width apart, toes pointed forward. 2. Sink into a full squat until your butt almost touches your calves. 3. Now come halfway up until your thighs are parallel to the ground. 4. Then lower back down again into the deep full squat. 5. Finish by standing straight up, driving forward from your hips and squeezing your butt as you stand tall. 6. You should keep your back straight at all times. If you have a pre-existing knee injury or if you feel pain in knees when performing this exercise, you should only do a normal squat; go only low to the point where your thighs are parallel to the ground.

Bollywood VS Tollywood? Bollywood & Tollywood are like two wheels of my scooter, if they are not in sync I would meet with an accident so… cant do without either of them! But, I will always cherish Tollywood for the kind of opportunities and recognition it got me. Telugu film industry will be my stepping stone to success & a learning school. What is the difference in filmmaking between both the industries?
Initially I thought Tollywood was more professional but Bollywood is now following suite. What is your fitness secret?

And as they say “eat healthy & sleep right.” Junk food is not only bad for your waistline but also for your mental health.. So I try to stay away from junk food as much as possible. How was the journey from “Aashiq Banaya Aapne” to “Dabangg”?
The journey was tough but pleasant. It was of course not a bed of roses without a filmy background or a “ GODFATHER” but the industry has been kind & it is always the survival of the fittest. The banner of the film or the role you play? What is the deciding factor for you to sign a movie?
Not only the banner or my role in the movie but also the primary importance is that of a good director and an appealing script. The right combination of all the above makes it a perfect blend; and that is what drives me to sign the dotted line. The banner of course is the icing on the cake.
Your role as Pasupati in “Arundathi” created a culmination. What are your comments on that? While shooting for the film I never expected that it would be such a sensational hit. That a character which was so depraved and evil would be appreciated to such an extent was a pleasant surprise for me. But hard work never goes in vain. We had long shooting hours for the film but we enjoyed the making of the movie thoroughly. Not only in Tollywood but when people from Bollywood also praise my role in the movie I feel proud to be a part of the movie.
How was it sharing the screen with the living legend Amithabh Bachchan in “Buddha hoga tera baap”? Amitabh Bachan Saab is an institution in himself and will always inspire me for his style of work, punctuality and for the learning experience I had while working with him. I had a great time shooting for the movie. I am looking forward to work in many more films with him. What do you prefer Sonu Sood the bad boy or Sonu Sood – the Gentleman ! I loved playing gentleman roles like in “Ek Vivah aisa bhi” & “Buddha hoga tera baap”.

I am a very simple person. Close to my family. I like exploring different cities and that is something I do when I go abroad for my tournaments. I am a very big foodie, love Indian cuisine and have a sweet tooth. But need to be careful about my diet. I enjoy working out let it be in the gym or even going out for a jog. You have achieved quite a lot in a short span of time. How does it feel to be an international figure?
It has been a lot of struggle and just in the last 2 years have had some success in the international level. It feels good that finally your 5 am workouts are bringing results. All the hard work and sacrifice put by you, your family and your coach are not in vain. It makes me motivated to work even harder. It feels good to be recognized, but personally it has not changed anything at all. I have my own set of friends and support system who keeps me grounded all the time. You are from Hyderabad, tell us about your childhood and upbringing here...
I was born and raised in Hyderabad. I finished my high school at the DAV Public School and graduated from the Wesley degree college (Osmania University). I did not have much of friends outside the tennis circle. My dad was very much interested in my tennis and my mom made sure I completed my education. There was a point when my mom would be going to my school more than me to collect my notes and be updated with my education. It is just because of her I could complete my graduation. Since the age of 7 tennis was my world. My dad was into my game, but his knowledge about the game in the past was very limited and would never interfere with what my coach did. It is because of my dad and my coach that I could take up this sport professionally.

What is the one thing that comes to your mind when we say “Hyderabad�? BIRYANI is one thing that comes to my mind when anyone says Hyderabad to me. As I am travelling a lot because of my tournaments and training, when I get home I get really lazy. Do you learn more from wins or defeats, and why?
I have learnt a lot from my losses. It took me almost a year to win my first match. I think it is natural to point out your mistakes when you lose matches. But you always need to discuss with your coach or your trainer on it, before you come to any conclusions. I always follow the one day rule before I start analyzing my losses. But even wins teach you a lot; you just need to have a mindset to learn. What inspired you to do tennis? Why not any other sport?
Tennis happened by chance to me, my parents wanted me to try out a sport after school and they tried cricket, basketball but then one of my friend from school would go to tennis and then I just followed him. After a year and half I started to win the under 8 and under 10 tournaments. To be honest I dint know for a long time that I enjoyed playing this sport. You paired-up with and Sania Mirza for mixed doubles and won silver medal. How was the experience?
It is one the best fortnight of my career. It was just 30 minutes before the deadline I was paired up with Sania to play the mixed doubles. We were the underdogs and unneeded in the tournament. The first match we were down 2 match points and we came back to win that one. After that it was a great run to win the silver medal. I have learnt a lot partnering with Sania. She taught me how to handle pressure and how to try to get your best game out under tight situations. Moreover to see your flag got up because of you is an amazing feeling which I cannot put out in words.
SPORTAINMENT What is your take on cricket being the most popular sport in India? Cricket is not just a sport in India. I celebrated when we became the world champions. It is awesome to be the best in the world. The popularity is because it reaches the masses. Even now the sponsors and the media is all to cricket. But things have changed in the last 5 years and a lot of attention is being given to other sport as well. How was the journey so far?
The journey so far has been filled with a lot of struggle, sacrifice and hard work of my parents and my coach. Lots of ups and down, but I am very much thankful for the support of the people who have always been by my side no matter what. They are the ones who keep me grounded and inspire me to work hard every single day. You are going to play in the Olympics with Leander Paes. Nervous or confident? I am not very nervous. I share a very good relationship with Lee. I have known him personally from the last 3 years. What he has done for the nation for the last 25 years through tennis is incredible and he is a huge inspiration to me. I have grown up watching him play. Having him as a partner and playing for the country at the Olympics is a huge thing for me and I would put in my best of the efforts. If not a tennis player what would your choice of career be?

arish and Neeru Kumars’ house nestles in a quiet lane on road number 38, Jubilee Hills. The couple worked extensively on their house for two years and finally moved in 2010. They were helped by architect Milind Nulkar of Bengaluru for the designing of this lavish abode. As I drive to their house, what instantly catches my attention is the beautifully engraved nameplate at their entrance. “That is an onyx marble stone with brass engravings for the details”, says Avnish Kumar the youngest child of the Kumars. Inside the gates, you are welcomed by huge portico that hints at an Italian influence. Once inside the house, I learn that Italian furniture and furnishings have been a favorite while designing this mansion. Neeru explains, “I wanted a house that reflected the personalities of our family members. There is a personal touch to every detail in this

house. It was an arduous task to do the interiors of the entire house all by myself. But the end result was rewarding.” She took in consideration of the likes of every family member while designing their personal space. “As a family, spirituality is within us. That is why you can find our teacher, Nirankari Babaji’s pictures all around the house”, says the lady of the house who believes in a mission that preaches universal brotherhood.
The living area is done in a theme of white with a hint of black. Crystals and Swarovski adorn the room quite delightfully. It is pure eye candy how the crystals of the decors shine in the lights, which also happen to be Swarovski chandlers. Furniture sourced from Italy sits gracefully in this living room which has a private lounge attached to it. A handmade painting made of clay, depicting the Golconda Fort, adorns the corner wall. A Hyderabadi touch to this western setting. The ground level also includes the dining and kitchen area. The Dining table is a lavish piece of art which adds to the element of bling. You are sure to feel like a Maharaja, feasting on this particular table.

One flight up (or you could use the elevator) brings you to the floor of bedrooms. The master bedroom, followed by bedrooms of the next two generations of the family. The master bedroom is spacious and the “Indian royalty� inspired furniture gives it a dramatic flourish. The dressing area and closet are attached to this space. The wooden floors add warmth.

The grandkids’ bedroom, is done in a princess theme. Colorful décor adds to the cuteness quotient of the room. “We used all the personal favorites of Raaina and Ruhani while doing this room.” Avnish’s room is all macho with theme of leather and black dominating the furnishings. Leather wallpaper subtly highlights the overall theme of the ultra modern furniture in this room. The basement, or the “entertainment floor” as the family calls it, houses an eclectic mix of sources of entertainment. A drum set, a Table Tennis set and a billiards table are all placed in this area. However, the best part of this floor is undoubtedly the home theatre, or may I call it a mini-theatre? Set in a 1000 sq. ft. with customized recliners, acoustic ceiling and floors covered in veneer, this is a proper amalgamation of sheer technology with tasteful interiors. The icing on the cake is the swimming pool in the lawn area. A beautiful water fall in the background adds to the grandeur of the entire space. Back in the days, we started caution, a grunge/alternate band (Most people know it as “Caution”) and it was nothing less than a life changing experience. It was a roller coaster ride for two years straight. Unfortunately, due to work commitments we were inactive for sometime. We are working on a comeback now. The best part is that feeling, when on stage, doing what you love the most. It wasn’t going to fade off just like that after all. Hyderabad has a lot of talent, but I guess we don’t have the crowd who can experiment with their tang much. We don’t have a proper channel to meet the direct ends. This comes down to a point where the musicians are paid peanuts. There has to be a system or something that works in a certain way and wipes out all the mediators. If there’s not, we have to work on it ourselves. To be frank enough, it is not about the money, but it is just about how much music is valued.

How to Q uickly H eal after a P ainful B reakup W
henever you find someone truly special, you want the relationship to last forever. You may have been visualizing the rest of your life with the person, ideally. After all, for most people, love doesn’t come along very often. Unfortunately, the majority of romantic relationships don’t last forever. Whether it’s because of incompatibility, distance, lack of chemistry or the allure of someone more appealing, the odds of breaking up at some point are quite high. Breaking up is often very painful, even if you are the one who initiated it. But it is especially painful if you are the one who was dumped. Rejection can cut right to the heart, and even though your friends will tell you it’s his (or her) loss and that you can’t take it personally, your heart is broken. And, if it happened unexpectedly, or at a particularly inopportune time (such as right before Valentine’s Day, your birthday, or the holidays) the sting is especially magnified. So, how do you handle a breakup in a way that doesn’t leave you wallowing in your misery for months on end, pining for someone who no longer wants you in his or her life? How do you manage the overwhelming feelings of loss and sadness, not to mention the anger and bewilderment, in a way that will help you heal quickly? Following are some guidelines to help you navigate the rough and turbulent post-breakup waters in a way which will allow you to grieve while facilitating the healing process. 1. Put away or toss all reminders of your ex. This includes photos, gifts, cards, notes- anything that your ex gave you or that reminds you of him or her. While “out of sight” won’t automatically mean “out of mind” shortly after a painful breakup, the fewer reminders you have, the better. 2. Pamper yourself. Especially right at the beginning. This is when you most need to really take care of yourself. Pamper and nurture yourself as much as possible. Take a weekend and go to a spa with friends, or fix your favorite comfort food (although don’t overdo it and put on 5 pounds you’ll feel even worse!). Buy some fresh flowers or a new CD. Take a bubble bath or get a manicure. This doesn’t have to be expensive; just do little things that make you feel good. 7 2 | AVA N T G A R D E L I F E
RELATIONSHIPS 3. Remind yourself of your ex’s flaws and what wasn’t working in the relationship. One of the best ways to keep yourself stuck in your grief is to idolize your ex. No person and no relationship are perfect. Make a list of everything you didn’t like and refer to it every time you start thinking to yourself; I’ll never find someone like him (or her) again. Your ex had flaws- now’s the time to remember all of them. 4. Throw yourself 150% into a project at work, a hobby that you’ve been neglecting or a new endeavour. Rather than allow all your emotional energy to be used up wallowing in misery, channel it towards something worthwhile. If there is a new project at work in which you can become involved, this is the perfect time. Focus on a hobby or activity you’ve always enjoyed, but perhaps were neglected during your relationship. Or, get involved in something new and fun, such as learning how to ski or taking a cooking class. 5. Exercise! If you haven’t already been exercising regularly, this is a great time to get your body moving. You will feel better physically and emotionally, and you’ll sleep better. Exercise, particularly a cardio workout such as running or biking, is a proven mood enhancer. This is essential when you are struggling with a lot of painful feelings. 6. Spend time with people who love and value you. Sometimes friends and family get neglected when you’re in love. Now is the time to focus on reconnecting and spending as much time as you can with people who truly think you’re wonderful. This will boost your self-esteem and keep your mind off your ex. (A caveat -don’t spend time with family or friends who will make you feel worse about your breakup!) 7. Allow yourself a little time each day (as needed) to grieve. A breakup is a loss, and grieving it is a process which shouldn’t be ignored. The goal is to not become consumed with your grief, but to acknowledge it and allow yourself to feel the painful feelings. Pushing them aside or avoiding them doesn’t work in the long run -they’ll return later in one form or another. Set aside a limited amount of time each day (or a few times a week) where you can reflect, cry, pound the pillow, or whatever. Using this time to write down your feelings in a journal can be very therapeutic. It’s okay to experience the feelings. But limit it and force yourself to move on to other things (such as on this list) so you can move forward as well. No matter how impossible and hopeless it may feel right now, when the pain is intense, it is possible to heal and move on more quickly than you think. Time may heal wounds, but if you don’t have a game plan the amount of time it takes can be much longer than necessary. But the process doesn’t have to drag on forever. Follow the guidelines above, and you will find yourself healing more quickly than you ever imagined!
