BENCH WORKSHOP
MAKING Design Studio; Professor Terrence Curry Masters. year 01. semester 02. 2 WKS REQUIREMENTS: To create an object for sitting in the exhibition space of the new architecture building at Tsinghua University. The seat had to fit within a 90mm cube and act as a sculptural piece in the exhibition space. Each student was given four sheets of birch plywood to make the bench. A 3D model was to be generated to have the ply pieces cut with a CNC machine and assembled by hand to make a solid form.
6 no. 18 mm thk plywood backrest fixed with wood glue and minimal dowels. Sanded separately and fastened to seat
3 no. 18 mm thk plywood seat cut in 4 sections and fixed with wood glue, dowels and screws. Sanded separately and fastened to base last
16 no. 18 mm thk plywood base cut in 3 overlapping sections and fixed with wood glue, dowels and screws. Sanded separately.
TRIDENT MAIN BAR Atelier Vidal Limited 2012 LOCATION: Portland, Jamaica The Trident Main Bar was the first project I was assigned at Atelier-Vidal Limited. As a crucial place in the Central Facility, the space had to leave an impression on the patrons. The concept was based on a continuum of time and the elements surrounding the area metaphorically and physically. The slats on the front face of the bar was an element the architect wanted to incorporate for the finish as well as a ‘cloud’. I then decided to have these elements continue along the wall and then onto the ceiling to make it feel more intimate and with the Prouve Light fixtures added, get that cloud effect.

BARBADOS MARITIME MUSEUM FCAA Biennale VII Competition Winner; Lecturer Jacquianne Lawton year 04. semester 02 LOCATION: Bridgetown, Barbados The Barbados National Naval and Maritime Museum is intended to integrate the constant movement on land and sea in this area, with knowledge and education provided by the museum. Educational and civic institutions surround the site to the North and East, with an active Bus Terminus to the South and the hub of the city to the West. As a result, many pass through the site, and to facilitate this nucleus of pedestrian activity, a courtyard and cafe were added to act as a punctuation in the path and a meeting place for the public. To create a stronger connection to the water a ‘bridge’ was created along the Western boundary, this would not only act as a connector to the North and South streets but to the market across the river. This would promote more commerce to the area, as well as a visual connection to the public spaces increasing awareness and interest.
Pedestrian movement to and from the heart of the city to the Bus Terminus via Queen’s Park, Constitution River Rd and Constitution Rd.
The West wall acts as not only a climatic but a structural element within the building as steel members are fastened to it.

The urban design phase of this project aims to address the issue of flooding on the site while highlighting the historical relics of the Ming Dynasty found on the site. The utilisation of water became a critical construct to the planning and development of the city and its buildings’ and is a pervading concept

MOBILE MIGRANT SCHOOL Design Thesis; Professor Li Xiaodong year 02 LOCATION: Bajia Village, Haidian, Beijing SITE AREA: 12,600 sq. m To design an educational facility for migrant children in Beijing that solves the civil society and government dilemmas associated with overpopulation. Making the project ‘mobile’ would alleviate the issues of demolition thatexisting schools face, while allowing for the continuation of students’ education. The dimensions selected were based on the container for ease of transport, while allowing for the transport of two additional classrooms within a container
