Summer comes and warms up a world in a state of alert, like it wasn’t seen for a long time. The heat that surrounds our lives questions whether it will be able to comfort the restless, apprehensive souls. The summer vibe neither brings a definitive solution to the invisible threat nor to our problems, but undoubtedly, it is a messenger of hope, enough to strengthen all of us. We live waiting for Better days Days of peace, for more days Days we will never bring back We live waiting for The day that We will be better Better in love Better in pain Better in everything Better days, forever and ever Welcome summer!

U.S. POLO ASSN. LAUNCHES ITS SUMMER 2020 COLLECTION
Fun, colorful, sport-inspired collection with hues that include brights and subtle pastels, with a dose of denim BY SILVANA CAMARGO
I
N MALIBU, POLO BRIGHTS WERE SHOT ALONGSIDE CHARMING BEACH cottages and colorful surfboards, while beautiful pastels paired perfectly with shots at the Santa Monica Pier featuring shades of lavender, blue and sea foam green. The shoot also included U.S. Polo Assn. Brand Ambassadors and polo players in dreamy scenes at sunset, on the beach alongside their beautiful polo ponies. The collection has memorable pieces such as neon trim, embroidery and unique textures that give that extra pop of fun. There’s also the rebirth of tie-die and terry, with a modern twist for men and women. While U.S. Polo Assn. is known for its sport-inspired, classic American style which always highlights denim, this season took denim to the next level with unique washes and details, as well as the use of earth-friendly, sustainable fabrics. “During these unprecedented times for all of us on so many fronts, we thought it was very important for our Summer 2020 brand campaign to be even more uplifting and inspirational than past campaigns as we welcome the season,” said J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global Licensing, which manages the global, multi-billion-dollar U.S. Polo Assn. brand.

HE DESIGNS FEATURE THE FIVE CHINESE ELEMENTS, (WATER, WOOD, FIRE, EARTH, AND METAL), WITH EACH ELEMENT REPRESENTING ITS own associated emotional and physical transformative energy, which correspond to nature’s cycles of time and matter, and different times of day and seasons. This provides a wearable roadmap of where to stretch, roll, and massage to significantly increase your health, performance, and vitality. Most people don’t realize the full extent of their own, innate self-healing system.”

New data-enriched, decision-making platform will help drive responsible sourcing decisions in the fashion industry
G FOR WOMEN, MADE BY WOMEN
W
ITH A RANGE OF NUTRITIONIST-APPROVED WEIGHT management supplement kits, Sculpt is setting the new standard for premium quality wellness products that are accessibly priced. A unique combination of clinically proven ingredients that help maximize results without breaking the bank. Founded in 2018 by wellness powerhouse Anita Rincón, the brand quickly expanded across popular retailers throughout the United States. Rincón created the New York based brand at the age of 30, just years after making the decision to leave her native Finland to pursue her dreams in America. After building her celebrity favorite beauty brand Rincón Cosmetics, Anita found herself struggling to balance her business and health. The concept of Sculpt was inspired by her own weight loss journey: losing 90 pounds over the course of 18 months. “I remember wishing there were products available for that extra boost during my own journey, but all the dietary supplements I looked into while I was trying to lose weight seemed to be for experienced fitness enthusiasts rather than regular women like myself” says Rincón. “This really pushed me to develop a brand that would offer clean ingredients, no harsh chemicals and no colorants.” The supplement products across body include Day Kit (decreases body fat and appetite), Night Kit (daily go-to amino-acid blend that helps with sleep and boosts energy in the morning), Cheat Day (clean, non-GMO and gluten-free carb blocker), Body Burn (elevates the body’s metabolism levels for prolonged fat burning) and Slim Kit (cleanse tool that flushes out built up toxins).
OOGLE ANNOUNCED A PARTNERSHIP WITH WWF Sweden to help create an environmental data platform that will enable more responsible sourcing decisions in the fashion industry. This collaboration will bring together projects from each organisation, drawing on the unique strengths of both. The fashion industry is answering the call to sustainability. The industry today accounts for 20 percent of wastewater and 2-8 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally—potentially rising by as much as 50% by 2030. Much of this impact occurs at the raw materials stage in the production process, where supply chains can be highly fragmented, and gathering and assessing data at scale is a challenge. The partnership aims to address these needs, providing a platform that could be used on a standalone basis or as a complement to existing efforts. At the 2019 Copenhagen Fashion Summit, Google Cloud announced a pilot in collaboration with Stella McCartney to use Google Cloud technology to provide a more comprehensive view into raw materials of clothing manufacturers’ supply chains. That work continues with Stella McCartney, whose team have been pivotal in shaping the concept of the platform and will continue as the first fashion brand to test it. WWF Sweden and longterm partner IKEA created a similar tool in 2018, focused on analysing the risk and impact of various textiles raw materials. Google and WWF Sweden will collaborate on an updated platform leveraging all of these data types, to further increase the accuracy and relevance of raw materials assessments. This new platform will also move beyond cotton and viscose as first announced, to include numerous additional raw materials based on WWF data and knowledge. In addition to Stella McCartney and IKEA, WWF and Google are also in consultation with a large number of other fashion, luxury, denim, and athletic brands and retailers.

THE SECRET PARIS COLLECTION
Justin Haynes of JUS10H releases his best kept secret exclusively for us
H
is signature designs have been noticed on runways across the US and beyond. And at Paris Fashion Week last year, Justin debuted V I N • T A G E: THE EIFFEL COLLECTION, but he kept a secret from the media spotlight since then. “I held on to until I received the right images that told the correct story. This collection is one of my favorites”, says Justin. Since the inception of JUS10H, Justin has worked diligently to perfect his craft, while remaining humble and dedicated to his hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts. Justin was the first from the Springfield area to showcase in Paris Fashion Week (held at the Eiffel Tower), New York Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week and Miami Fashion Week. Justin is an energetic and creative designer who always thrives on pushing the envelope. As it pertains to fashion, he believes that one should be true to themselves, walk boldly in what makes you feel good, inside and out and never worry about what others may think about you. Nearly a decade ago, Justin started JUS10H after leaving his then stable job and declining promotion, instead Justin chose to live out his dream of becoming a fashion designer. Both his menswear and womenswear consist of retro chic fashions that are tailor made for the customers. The fusion of bright colors, distinct patterns, and elegant patchwork has allowed his brand to be both recognized and requested by many, as he remains true to his mission: “Bringing Fashion to Your Everyday Life”. Justin presented his latest collections and was featured at COVERGIRL NY with a billboard feature in Time Square during NYFW this past February. A must see: jus10h.org.

During this current global crisis, I begin to wonder where our future will take us. If our grandparents and great grandparents survived madness during their generations, so can we. Patience is a virtue, so let’s take it
ONE DAY AT A TIME BY ANTHONY TAMBURRINO
I
T IS NO NEWS THAT THIS PANDEMIC HAS AFFECTED EACH AND EVERY ONE ACROSS the globe. Suddenly, many have been furloughed or lost their jobs. Some economies have responded quicker and smarter to protect their people, others did not do their homework. Even the fashion world has stopped. Its future remains uncertain. Despite size or years in the market, many have gone or will go out of business. On the other hand, some were able to evolve and faced unexpected high demands. As we all go through this turmoil together, I have flashbacks of the generations before us and how they went through difficult times, showing how strong and resilient they were. Back in the days, people would not move out of their family’s homes until they had gotten married. Even after marriage, a couple could live with their families until they had enough money to buy a home cash or at least have a large lumpsum for a big deposit to keep the mortgage as low as possible or at manageable levels. Another option at the time was to buy a duplex or triplex and place multiple family members into one single building and split the costs. Some would also buy the property on their own and rent out the other units to create additional income. All these options were ways to financially cut through difficult times. A family could buy a home or a multi-

unit together, and pay it off ASAP, so they could afford a better property and build equity at the same time. Also, one could apply for a reverse mortgage if ever needed. A perfect example of creating investment could be buying a duplex or triplex, so the rental income can pay off the mortgage. Also, back in the days, people would only buy things cash, no credit cards to avoid any impulses or unplanned expenses. Buying produce on sale and lots of grains to stretch every dollar sounds something from a galaxy far away but could be very actual nowadays. One can feed an army with pasta, rice, beans, lentils, etc., all of this still being extremely healthy! Shopping for items on sale will definitely make such an impact in savings in the end of the day. Every penny you save during these hard times will help paying the bills and cover living expenses. Another thing: we should never throw food away. As a kid, I remember being constantly told to be humble and grateful for leftovers, so I could have food for the next day. Also, while we still need to keep ourselves distant, rationing food at times (and not overeating) can be essential not only for our budgets but for our body health. Also, family dinners and family movie nights were key. Sunday dinners as well, with family and friends. These kept us all together and harmonious. One or two cars per household at max – and not several. When it comes to our wardrobe in current times, we
64
| JULY 2020
have such an abundance in our closets, and may times rarely used at their potential. If we lived back in the 40-60’s, fashion was more classic and had much more longevity. Sunday one would wear the best outfit for church or special occasions. Closets were much smaller, so people had less but made it their best! Basic colors in shoes, black and beige – not insane amounts of shoes that will not see much use in our lifetime. During these times, as we cut back and watch our budgets, we must be savvy. Styling for example can multiply your looks, combining your existing pieces in a way that you always have a fresh look. Sometimes having essential items can literally make any outfit look great, such as classic pair of sunglasses, an everyday leather bag, a pointedtoe black pump, a scarf or a nice belt. While making the most of your closet today is a must, there’s also creative ways to look good making simple and modern hairstyles. After all, we still need to express ourselves, feel beautiful and stand out! Overall, we have become so career driven and materialistic that some cannot handle this pandemic, as they are unable to adapt to these new times. Saving money and not living out of your means has never been so imperative these days. This pandemic has given all of us a reality check to see what is most important to us. So let’s not lose the simplicity in our style of living and take these simple but fundamental things that we once knew and were long time forgotten, one day at a time.

RAINBOW THE
AFTER THE STORM
After the storm, there will be calm and there will be a new beginning BY RENATA SANFILIPPO
D
URING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC, LIFE BECAME UNCERTAIN AND DARK FOR most of the world and adaptation was what it took for us to survive not only physically but mentally as well. The fashion world seemed frozen and blurred by all the tragedies around the globe, people didn’t care for fashion as much as they did before COVID-19 and the storm of fear and uncertainty was over our heads like a big thunderstorm of changes. Now I feel that it is time to embrace the rainbow that came after the storm. I see colors and organic materials coming back stronger than ever, like cotton, natural dyes, and messages of love and compassion for people and nature through brands that before only cared about fashion. Brands are investing in causes. That has created collaboration between countries and communities, and that can be the bait used by brands to bring its customers back on shopping their goods. Even big stores like Saks Fifth Avenue had to create their rainbow to welcome their clients that for a long time couldn’t go to their store. Things like complementary facemasks, and sanitizing stations for those that forgot to bring it is a sign that brands and population are caring more for each other than before COVID-19. Online concierge shopping became an option for those afraid to walk into stores and a lot of other alternatives seem to be showing up everyday making every single consumer happy with their shopping experience. Those alternatives make me very happy because before COVID-19 the fashion world was becoming very robotic and fashion was nothing but art and consumer goods that we used to express ourselves by wearing it and buying it. Now it’s about innovation and creativity we consume and buy with a purpose on top of all the other reasons we had before. The feeling of spending on your favorite designer knowing that will help others in need will make people and artists feel better for themselves and sales might go up. Now we have to care and adapt so we can survive and keep our fashion up to date. We can all make a difference shopping with our masks, supporting local business or shopping online for brands that care about the global situation. Whatever it is we can all do our part and feel good about it. Stay Sunshine!

Since Levi Strauss’ creation in 1873, jeans have undergone a makeover every decade. Models, styles, and symbols were created representing youth, artists, and communities. From a trademark of cowboys to its popularization as a daily casual piece through Marlon Brando and James Dean, to young hippies as a symbol of protest, Jeans has gained popularity worldwide due to its simplicity and durability. Several brands have jeans in their DNA as a characteristic including Levi’s and Wrangler. Be it low-rise, high-rise, bootcut, skinny, baggy, paper bag waist, distressed, cropped, jackets, shirts, shorts, skirts... This might be one of the most traditional items that could still remain forgotten in your wardrobe for years but will always be able to return sooner than we think! ROPE Project “A body that turns into a canvas and lets itself be seduced by the stain of the rope; a sculptural piece, which is an extension of my artistic work”
The artist and Venezuelan fashion designer. Lisu Vega presents ROPE. A new project that is an extension of her artistic proposal with the string, a material with which she has developed her sculptural work for three years; even with the relationship that Vega has with the cord, dates from her beginnings as a professional in experimental engraving. The Rope Project was born originally as a composition, an element of expression of the painting, taken to the dress. This project is made up of a series of pieces made of poly-silk that over time, took a sustainable intention, due to the upcycling process carried out during its realization: two pieces are built from the material, the original part that is presented in each creation and the white part that becomes part of the ready to wear. Each creation is a stain that intervenes the body with various organic forms. Unique and unrepeatable pieces, versatile and light with certain points of light that recreate the artistic approach of Lisu, taken to fashion, always understanding the body as a canvas. The project is part of the DNA of the form, so it will always be present and also promises to extend to decorative and utilitarian elements of the home.

THREE TIMES SAINT LAURENT BY IGOR SAMPAIO
W
hen navigating through the cinematographic waters of fashion, the titles are as varied as possible (as we showed in the last edition). And obviously the “big ones” will always be in the spotlight, whether in documentaries or fictional films. Yves Saint Laurent becomes a recurring name on the cinema screens, since his work has significantly changed the world of fashion for over 50 years. Records of his life and films after his death in 2008 try to show his genius from different angles. Which is not an easy job for any film director, but these films reveal to the public a dense, complex and a unique character, making one understand why his name is still a synonym of elegance. Born in Algeria at the time when the African country was a French territory, Yves Saint Laurent is among the great designers of the 20th century. He was the one responsible for elevating women’s tuxedo, knickers (knee-length), trapeze dresses (with semi-fitted bodice and evasé skirt) and safari-inspired saharienne coats. He was also one of the first to institute the end of the haute couture empire and to create a prêt-à-porter collection in 1966. And for fans of the stylist and fashion in general, we have separated 3 films that will make you fall even more in love with the genius of one of the greatest designers of the world.

L’AMOUR FOU (2011)
Documentary about the 50-year relationship between the designer and his husband, Frenchman Pierre Bergé. Director Pierre Thoretton’s idea was to investigate how this relationship has been able to last so long these days. The documentary is built from testimonials given by Bergé to Thoretton. However, the businessman talks less about the couple and more about Saint Laurent - his personality at the same time genius and depressive, his enigmas and his charm for fashion. It was during the funeral of Dior that
Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, a name at the time already known to the French artistic class, met for the first time. Shortly thereafter, they met over dinner and soon began the romance that lasted half a century, until the stylist’s death, at the age of 71, in February 2008. Their relationship, however, was marked by ups and downs, as the documentary shows. As is common to so many geniuses, Yves Saint Laurent had many peculiarities, in addition to a depressive personality. His crises directly interfered with the romance - Pierre Bergé even separated for a while at the height of YSL’s involvement in alcohol and drugs during the 1990s. “I tried all this time together to get Saint Laurent out of his crises and his deep introspection. But nobody would have achieved that”, he says. “Saint Laurent was only happy twice a year, at the end of his fashion shows, when he received applause and compliments. The next day, he returned to his depressive state”. The film also reveals other peculiarities of the stylist’s personality, such as the fascination with the character Swann, by writer Michel Proust. On his travels, Saint Laurent used to register at hotels under the name Swann. In addition to long conversations with Pierre Bergé, Thorreton collected testimonies from Loulou de la Falaise, muse and creative partner of Yves Saint Laurent, describing more precisely the many facets of this fashion genius.
THE DRAWINGS OF YVES SAINT LAURENT (2017)
The documentary delves into the hundreds of thousands of sketches of Saint Laurent to understand his creative process and historical period, as well as its importance for haute couture. First revealed to the public, his drawings from childhood until his last collection, show the skills and fascination with fashion. The striking features are able to give clues as to how the drawings were made. And like paintings by great artists, his sketches are unique and pure works of art. This documentary is a rescue of his legacy, and tries to compile his entire trajectory - although this is almost impossible. Undoubtedly better than trying to visualize the whole, to watch this documentary, it is best to appreciate each image of each individual piece. A rare and special opportunity.
YVES SAINT LAURENT (2014)
In 1998, Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent’s longtime partner, invited filmmaker Olivier Meyrou to film the couple at the top of their success. After three years with the duo, capturing the most intimate moments of their lives, Olivier even found a distributor, but Bergé gave up on the partnership and did not authorize the disclosure of the images. Later, in September 2017, shortly before his death, the businessman turned back, and almost two de-
cades after the end of filming, “Yves Saint Laurent”, was finally released in theaters in 2014. Olivier believes that Bergé chose to portray the period between 1998 and 2001 because he knew it was important, much more than if it had been done 20 years earlier. However, when the filmmaker tried to explain his cut, he was censored. Bergé’s authoritarian behavior is portrayed in the movie. Most of Saint Laurent’s life seemed to be managed by Bergé, but the film also shows that it wasn’t always like this: in a certain scene, the designer decides to change a model’s clothes moments before a show, and Bergé, curiously, ends up reprogramming the entire presentation to meet the stylist’s desire. “Bergé had a very big ego, but for 40 years he accepted that he was after his partner. This is love”, he said. This will be the first time that many fashionistas will have the opportunity to see Saint Laurent in his last years. Meyrou believes that many will be frightened, seeing the stylist with an older and weaker image, but two decades after filming, the director believes that the work exhibits more than the designer’s history, it is a testimony of an era that won’t come back anymore.

EARTH Shot in Saint Petersburg, Russia - this photo project is all about conscious and careful attitude to nature, rational use of non-ecological garbage, and environmental pollution. What will happen to plastic toys when children get enough of them? They will end up in the garbage, then in the landfill, lying there forever, like everything around. You can also trace the life cycle of plastic bags and bottles that fall into the trash cans in our kitchen... What is their fate? It is worth thinking for a moment that all neighbors, acquaintances, and all people do the same. You can only change yourself; you need to watch yourself and wish the best for the others. What exactly are YOU doing? What you buy and throw away, and whether you really needed it. How much trash do YOU produce?

FASCIA Strengthening our internal personal protective equipment BY ANNA VIEIRA
D
o you know what this term is regarding our anatomy? If not, then you may be missing out on lasting results in your soft tissue release efforts. I am absolutely convinced that Fascia is the missing link to healing our body tension, pain, and even our anxieties, stress, and mental health conditions. This connective tissue matrix is everywhere in our body, encapsulating all our structures. It is essentially the fabric of our being and perhaps the largest organ in our body – the most underrated one as well. In fact, did you know that we can have restrictions in this system, and they do not show up on any MRIs, X-rays, or CAT scans? These restrictions can cause an immense amount of pressure on pain-sensitive areas. Most doctors are dumbfounded when it comes to treating chronic pain because they often do not understand how this particular system functions. We can wear all the PPEs we want. We can stay home all day and night to help stop the spread. We can be socially responsible and keep our distance. Just do not forget to nourish our sacred immune system. This system functioning at an optimal state is what will really keep us safe from getting sick by protecting us from the inside out. So, if you want to keep yourself and your family from getting sick, remember that these will weaken our immune system: not going outside for fresh air and sunshine, not moving our body and exercising regularly, eating foods that have minimal nutritional value and, drinking too much alcohol. And we can’t forget not to watch the news too much. Fear wreaks havoc on our body and our immune system and prevents it from being able to do its job! What we do and how we show up in our body is how our body will show up for us!
