T
here is only one star in the sky that shines during the day and disappears during the night: the Sun. The protagonist of the solar system is essential for the existence of life on planet Earth. Plants, animals and humans highly depend on the star. Planets, asteroids, comets and all the cosmic dust to which we belong, revolve around it. In addition to defining the start of a new day, the sun allows us to restart within our 24 hour journey, to try a new or different approach or to continue where we stopped. And we have, as living creatures of this vast universe, the privilege of being graced with the possibility of making our best choices, in search of what in theory, makes us happy. The sun does not allow excuses, failures or giving up, because just the fact that you are reading these words, that is already proof that you have everything necessary to seek your happiness. As an absolute king, or as the god Helios in Greek mythology, it is in the summer that it privileges us of its maximum presence, marking the season as a new phase. Like a big injection of energy into our lives, it gives us a boost of strength, reminding us we need to be better, we need to be resilient. Accept the heat as a convenient nuisance that won’t let us settle, and take the brightest, most intense light to make us more focused. And despite everything we have been through this year, we can be sure of one thing: the sun is the balance and the reason for life, and summer is its visit at our homes.

A CELLEBRATION OF SELFLOVE, AUTHENTICITY AND INDIVIDUALITY BY SILVANA CAMARGO
A
N EXPRESSION OF OPTIMISM AND ORIGINALITY, PERfect Marc Jacobs is a playful and unexpected new scent, inspired by Marc Jacobs’ personal mantra: “I am perfect as I am,” and is brought to life through a global advertising campaign that was created with an inclusive cast of 42 individuals, partly scouted through an open social media casting call. “I tattooed ‘perfect’ on my wrist to remind me that, when I’m looking at myself and wishing I could be stronger in this way or better at that thing, I can just say no, I’m exactly how I need to be right now,” says Marc Jacobs. “My new fragrance, Perfect, was inspired by my belief that we are all perfect as we are, which is expressed in the campaign through each of our amazing cast members.” The Perfect Marc Jacobs campaign is a colorful collage of portraits and vignettes, with cast members proclaiming, “I am perfect as I am.” Shot by world-renowned fashion photographer Juergen Teller, with creative direction by Katie Grand, the campaign features models Lila Moss, daughter of supermodel Kate Moss, Alek Wek, Akon Changkou, Mei Kawajiri, twins Margo and Madelyn Whitley, and talent hand-picked through the open social media casting call, including Isold Halldoruttir and Nathali Turner, among many others. To honor the Perfect values of self-expression, the cast was invited to select and style their own wardrobe using a mix of Marc Jacobs collection pieces and curated vintage finds.
28
| AUGUST 2020
“It was an incredible experience shooting the Perfect Marc Jacobs campaign alongside the full cast,” says Lila Moss. “I absolutely adore the fragrance and the bottle, and I’m so honored and excited to be a part of a campaign with such an important message of self-love and self-acceptance.” Modern, bright, and feminine, Perfect Marc Jacobs is a comforting floral scent with an addictive quality. Created by perfumer Domitille MichalonBertier of IFF, the juice is an unconventional yet harmonious clash of fresh floral and calming smooth accords. The fragrance opens with juicy notes of rhubarb and bright daffodil that reveal a comforting heart of almond milk. At the base, cedarwood and cashmeran impart a soft dry down for a cocooning finish. In true Marc Jacobs fashion, the Perfect Marc Jacobs bottle is crafted with an eyecatching blend of elegant and unexpected elements. At the top, a crystal-cut cap is crowned with an eclectic and multicolored collection of mis-matched charms. Each charm was selected by Marc himself and injects a touch of his irreverent style into the design. The weighted glass base is inspired by the grace and style of a classic parfum, with domed shoulders and a gilded collar. Inside, a blush pink juice highlights the artful edges of the bottle. Complementary to the bottle, the outer packaging is an ode to vintage fragrance boxes. Outfitted in a delicate blush pink matte hue, the carton features an original pastel-colored illustration of the Perfect bottle from New York based artist, Jacky Blue.

HIS YEAR, THE BE KIND COMPANY has launched a new “Election Collection” meant to encourage everyone, regardless of political persuasion, to treat one another with kindness. “I hope this collection can be a reminder that regardless of how different we may be, or think, or vote, we can still always choose to be kind”, says Taryn HartwellLewis, founder of The Be Kind Company. HUBLOT PRESENTS NEW MILLENNIAL PINK WATCH
I
N AN EVER-CHANGING WORLD, HUBLOT STAYS TRUE TO ITS PHILOSOphy of being first, unique, different: unveiling a new Big Bang, christened Millennial Pink, designed in collaboration with Garage Italia and Lapo Elkann. A new approach to timekeeping, one which looks to the future, setting trends. More than a watch, it is a state of mind. Gender Neutral. Its 42-mm case sets the tone: made from modern, lightweight aluminium, a unisex and monochrome material, anodised, satin-finished and through-tinted millennial pink. This technical feat has been made possible thanks to research undertaken by Hublot’s engineers. This highly specific colour is obtained by anodisation, a process which both protects and decorates a part, and which has the advantage of giving the case and its components the desired pastel shade combined with remarkable resistance to scratches and impacts. Its proportions ensure it sits perfectly on any wrist. Gender Neutral. The Unico chronograph manufacture movement, boasting a 72-hour power reserve, has a chronograph mechanism on the dial side and a column wheel. The highly versatile Big Bang Millennial Pink is supplied with two straps, easily interchangeable thanks to Hublot’s exclusive patented One Click system. Disruptive, creating new codes for traditional luxury, the Big Bang Millennial Pink produced in collaboration with Garage Italia will only be available in a very exclusive limited edition of 200 pieces.
PRESERVATION OF KEVYN AUCOIN’S JOURNALS Seven original journals from makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin are now preserved through an extensive digital archive created and maintained by the Makeup Museum
T
HE MAKEUP MUSEUM UNVEILS IMages from a new digital archive of journals kept from 1983 to 1994 by legendary makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin. Aucoin was wholly responsible for the “sculpted” look of many celebrities and top models, includingmodels Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Paulina Porizkova, and celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Tina Turner, Liza Minnelli, and many others. Aucoin worked extensively with iconic photographers such as Steven Meisel, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, and Francesco Scavullo. Aucoin’s journals chronicle his life and work, complete with behind-the-scenes images from photoshoots for VOGUE magazine and brands such as Shiseido, Chanel, and Revlon. Aucoin (born in 1962 in Shreveport, Louisiana) moved to New York City in the early 1980s where he was soon hired as a
lead makeup artist by VOGUE magazine. Before his untimely death in 2002 at age 40, Aucoin had worked with countless models, celebrities and pop culture figures, and published world-renowned books about makeup artistry including The Art of Makeup, Makeup Faces, and Face Forward. “Kevyn’s imprint on our industry is still very much alive today,” said Rachel Goodwin, Makeup Artist and Makeup Museum Co-Founder. “He opened the door for new generations of makeup artists to walk through, and legitimized our craft in a way no one had done before.” Throughout his life, Aucoin maintained scrapbook-like journals to document his meetings, contacts, career highlights, and personal milestones. Seven journals, one each from 1983, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1994, and two from 1993, had been lovingly stored by his family. Because of the challenges with conservation of paper-based documents, the Makeup Museum worked with the family to create a digital archive of the journals to ensure the preservation of this important set of historical artifacts. Full-page images from the journals have never been published before, and the polaroid images therein represent oneof-a-kind images from photoshoots with the world’s most iconic photographers like Avedon, Penn, Meisel and more. The journals also served as a space to safekeep mementos from Aucoin’s meaningful life moments, like his backstage pass to the 66th Annual Academy Awards show in 1994, his Madison Square Garden ticket for Barbra Streisand’s The Concert, a newspaper clipping of an article about his parents founding the PFLAG chapter in his hometown, animal rights stickers, birthday cards and family photographs. The Makeup Museum will showcase exclusive images from the new Kevyn Aucoin digital journal archive on Instagram (@ Mak eupMuseumOfficial) and in the newly launched Makeup Museum mobile app on Apple iOS ($2.99). Users of the Makeup Museum mobile app have exclusive first-look access to digital content, including special artifacts available through Augmented Reality such as the rare Salvador Dali “Bird-in-Hand” vintage compact, and skincare prescriptions from Marilyn Monroe and Jacqueline Kennedy. The Makeup Museum will continue to unveil special artifacts with in-depth educational insights each month on the mobile app as part of the Makeup Museum’s ongoing digital initiatives.

STEP 1: EDIT Start from one end of your closet, working your way from clothing and shoes, to handbags and jewelry. Create four piles: YES These items you absolutely love, wear, and want to keep. NO These items you no longer love or wear and are ready to part with. Further organize these into two piles — resell (we recommend The Real Real) or donations. ALTERATIONS This pile is for items that could be flattering but need to be tweaked (i.e. tailoring, dry cleaning.) MAYBE For those items you are unsure about.
STEP 2: CLEAN UP Separate any items that are off season—empty pockets, zip zippers, button buttons—and place the clothing in garment bags to be stored away. But, before you stow these items, make sure they have been washed or dry cleaned. Organize your — keeps — by color, fabrication, and type, then put away shoes by category (i.e. business, evening, casual.)

W H E N SPF I S NO T E NOUG H,
LET’S CBD Natural healthy hydrated skin! Is cannabidiol the next trend? BY RENATA SANFILIPPO
S
EEMS LIKE THE NEW GROWING SKINCARE TREND IS AN INGREDIENT CALLED CBD (short for cannabidiol), the new talk of town when it comes to sold out products and skin regime based on its benefits. Muscle relaxation and skin hydration can be some of its benefits and different strengths of CBD on different brands and formulas can give you different results. To tell you the truth, I was a little bit skeptical about trying CBD on my skin in the past because of the lack of research on it, and after I would say two to three years of CBD research, it became safer and more consumer-friendly. I admit being a big fan of the cannabinoid oils for during the day and the creams at night time for its higher and more relaxing concentration of CBD, you can use at night around the neck and shoulders or during the day as an anti-anxiety cream. Feelist is my favorite brand on the market because of its higher concentration of CBD on their night cream and the brand is simple and has natural benefits of relaxation and hydration before bed. They have the day cream and the night cream After 2019, the trend started and now they can be found pretty much everywhere, and brands are really investing on researching and educating consumers about its benefits. Marketing is a big part of sales because of the lack of information the population has on its benefits. Makeup brands are still getting more innovative as well but there is so much of the same thing out there that skin care became the new trend. CBD might be good for acne-prone skin as well. So far, I have not heard much about it, but I know researchers are always trying to find natural beneficial products to make us feel better and not just beautiful. We consciously care about our image and fashion, so let’s all aim for the most natural best we can find. Stay Sunshine!

EW YORK FASHION WEEK was the first fashion event N worldwide. Initially, in 1943, it was known as Press Week. Today, it receives the biggest names in the fashion world,
such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Salinas and Boss, among almost 100 stylists, brands and designers. The event has two annual editions. One of them is held from the first Thursday of February, in which the trends for fall / winter are presented. The second edition starts on the first Thursday of September, presenting the spring / summer trends. LONDON FASHION WEEK was born after the NYFW, having its first edition in 1984. But it was in 2010 that the event became the most fashionable fashion week in the world, even surpassing Tokyo fashion week. Today it has several names like Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, among several other highly respected brands. During the five days of the event, it is possible to honor, in addition to the wonderful fashion shows, several exhibitions, shows, parties and other events with important artists. MILAN FASHION WEEK Milan, the capital of fashion! Milan Fashion Week had its first edition in 1958 and has since been organized by Camera Nazionale dela Moda Italiana. The biggest brands in the world, such as Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Gucci, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Alberta Ferreti, Emporio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bottega Veneta and Emilio Pucci, parade on their runways. This super event is divided into 4 editions, of which January and June are for men’s fashion, and in February and September the women’s fashion shows take place.
PARIS FASHION WEEK The first edition of the event took place in 1973 and is organized by the French Fashion Federation. Paris Fashion Week is the last of the fashion weeks and brings with it great names such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès, Jean Paul Gaultier and the Brazilian brand of Pedro Lourenço. The event is held every six months with the presentations of the spring / summer and fall / winter collections. Also, speaking of Paris, we have the Haute Couture Week, which is another great Parisian fashion event and usually takes place in January, presenting the fall / winter collections, and in July with the spring / summer collections. Major brands such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Chanel Joaillerie, Valentino and other big names in the cream of world fashion are taking part in the week. SÃO PAULO FASHION WEEK the largest Brazilian fashion event and also the most important in the Southern Hemisphere. But it doesn’t stop there: the event quickly became one of the biggest fashion weeks in the world, together with those already mentioned previously. The event started in 1995, and was an evolution of Phytoervas Fashion, which brought together young Brazilian designers between the years 1993 and 1997. SPFW’s main focus, in addition to publicizing the work of Brazilian designers, is also to organize the country’s fashion production and launch it to the world. The good news is that it has been working very well!

SUGAR dreams BY AUSTN FISCHER
During these uncertain times as a creative it has been very difficult to create. Being in lockdown in a small town in Wisconsin having access to other creatives is very slender. I have created a body of work with my siblings and the people in my neighborhood to allow for me and other local creatives to still be able to create. Through the use of self-portraiture, set design, and fashion; I explore the ideas of gender, identity, and family. Without having access to literature, I found myself looking at the paintings that my mother kept in a book on the shelf and recreating them, exploring how we genderize certain items and how paintings created the male gaze.

YOUTHFUL REBELLION A fashionable retelling of a classic tale BY IGOR SAMPAIO
B
AZ LUHRMANN DIRECTOR’S ROMEO AND JULIET MOVIE, IS A BRIDGE from the XVI century to the 90’s fashion looks. There’s so much to love about this movie—from Luhrmann’s kinetic style to Leonardo DiCaprio’s romantic, floppy, quintessentially haircut—but perhaps its greatest achievement is its fantastic fashion. Costumes are one of those quieter storytelling tools that, when given their due, can actually say a lot about a character in a short moment. And the costumes in this film put in a lot of hard work. We all know from our middle-school readings of Romeo and Juliet that the Capulets and the Montagues will never be bosom buds—but Luhrmann drives home the dueling families—differences right from the start by choosing two very different styles of dress for them. On one side, you have the Montagues—whom we meet first, and who look like total beach bums wearing bright colors. Given that, it should come as no surprise that the Capulet boys all favor red and black. The Montagues are into buttons; the Capulets generally prefer zippers. The list goes on and on.
82
| AUGUST 2020
But Luhrmann’s most “un-makeable deal”—the biggest “how did this movie actually happen” moment? His two-hour, action-packed, star-studded blockbuster in which the only words spoken are Elizabethan English: Romeo and Juliet. The 1996 sensation more than succeeded in its aims of refashioning Shakespeare for the MTV generation; it brought in $147.5 million by soundtracking sonnets to Radiohead and Garbage, and outfitting the Montagues and Capulets in Prada and D&G. Luhrmann, who developed his sumptuous dramatic style working in theater
and opera, didn’t dream of backing down from the Bard’s original language, but sought to construct a unique universe for it to live anew. According to the film’s production notes, Luhrmann calls this a “created world”— a self-contained space that’s rooted in a pastiche of iconic imagery from religion, technology, folklore, and pop culture. This created world, “afforded production designer Catherine Martin and costume designer Kym Barrett an incredible amount of aesthetic latitude, but their creations were always firmly tethered to Shakespeare’s words and story.
Though the Montague boys are of the same comfortable social class as the Capulet clan wearing super-serious black-and-red clothing , their garb is much more easy, and utilitarian: unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts, baggy workwearinspired pants and shorts, combat boots or Chuck Taylors. “With the Montague boys, it’s sort of a Vietnam feeling,” costume designer Barrett explained, citing the end of the war in the mid 1970s, “when the soldiers wore Hawaiian shirts and shorts and indigenous hats. They invented their own way of wearing clothes, to suit the climate and the surroundings.” Though the Montagues don’t have quilted, velvet bulletproof vests like the Capulets, this rag-tag team is not without its own unique code of ornate decoration (shout out to Mercutio at the Capulet party, who look like he walked off an Ashish runway). They don’t need bling, their Hawaiian shirts are vibrant enough; they don’t slick back their hair to show off their hand-crafted holsters, they dye it pink and spike it up. The factions are distinctive, but both wear their rebellious attitudes on their sleeves through clothing that connects to the created world they share. Prada created Romeo’s just-boxyenough navy blue wedding suit, complete with a crisp cotton shirt and pink floral tie, an homage to his Montague heritage. Juliet’s looks are similarly subtle, simple, and down to earth—even her angel costume at the Capulet ball. Luhrmann cast Danes on the strength of My So Called Life, but Barrett stripped away Angela Chase’s flannels and sweaters, leaving Juliet, in one scene when she’s waiting for the Nurse to dish about Romeo, with just a white t-shirt and jeans. Youthful rebellion takes many fashionable forms in this film, but every style choice springs from Luhrmann’s created world (just like how some designers create a world for their clothing on the runway). The cocktail of minimalist custom Prada, Vietnam-meets-mall-rat, and ultra sexy D&G doesn’t seem probable outside Luhrmann’s imagination, just as scoring Shakespeare to Butthole Surfers and The Cardigans also seems like it would be a disaster. Yet these choices are precisely what makes his adaptation so unique and enduring after almost a quarter of century.

LOVE YOUR
FASCIA Reset your lymphatic system for a better version of yourself BY ANNA VIEIRA
F
ascia adhesions work as a “parking brake” in our body and we need free flow in order to keep our body healthy. The underlying secret is to work together, as no system in the body works by itself, never gets injured by itself and never heals alone. However, you can have a targeted systemic therapeutic approach that takes care for these important systems, giving you faster and longer lasting results with much less effort. It’s not just about stimulating tissues randomly, there’s an order in which you do it! This sequence influences the hydrodynamics of our body fluids. But before any aesthetician procedure, think fascia. Inflammations and cellulite treatments can benefit from a much better result when fascia is approached appropriately. Inflammation combined with bad posture and fascia adhesions in a toxic body is the perfect combination for
cellulite to thrive. Cellulite is just a big huge block of fascia adhesions and body fluid retention related to inflammation. Cellulite is part of our defense mechanism. When our liver is full of toxic debris and unable to store toxins. It gives the body a specific signal and the body begins to store toxic material far away from our organs, usually around our thighs and buttocks area. Cupping treats inflammation, breaks fascia adhesions, detoxes the body, oxygenates blood, unclogs lymphatic system and much more. Another area that can benefit is scars. Scars have neurological and emotional memory pain attached to it. When scars are treated, trauma is being released from the fascia and nervous system. Our nerves are one big system with different names and fascia is a one-piece suit. Scars block blood and lymph circulation, and you could be retaining body fluid around your scars. It is all interconnected.
Here’s a few pro tips that you should know to better understand and respect your skin: 1. It is the largest organ of the body; it matters a lot in your healing. 2. It is part of your ectoderm developmental tissue and it speaks directly to the brain and gut 3. It is a detox organ and reveals the deep health of your body especially your brain and gut 4. It is hard not to notice how interconnected all the structures are in the body – and sadly, we forget all the time 5. Just touching the skin ignites healing, connection, and bonding 6. Just touching the skin can also ignite withdrawal, threat, and pain 7. The lighter you go on the skin with touch, the more powerful results you get. It does not have to be hard to work. It is easy to go hard, it is hard to go light 8. The skin tells a lot about your organ’s health. The body reveals itself via the skin.
