FIRST A350 XWB TAKES TO THE SKIES ON ITS MAIDEN FLIGHT A new chapter has opened in Airbus’ 43 year history as the first A350 XWB, the w orld’s most efficient large tw in-engined commercial aircraft, pow ered aloft this morning for its maiden flight at Blagnac in Toulouse, France at 10.00 hours local time. SAS INITIATES LONG HAUL FLEET RENEWAL PLAN SAS and Airbus have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the order of 12 new aircraft. Embraer launches “E2”, the second generation of E-Jets Embraer S.A. announces, today, the launch of the second generation of its E-Jets family of commercial aircraft, named the E-Jets E2 and comprising three new airplanes – E175-E2, E190-E2, and E195-E2. Baltic Ground Services develops its own environmentally friendly de-icing fluid Baltic Ground Services has announced the successful certification of a new glycerine-based Type I de-icing fluid Defrosol ADF. The utilized materials allow to offer the market a low er-priced eco-friendly alternative. A350: Supply Chain challenges for the latest generation aircraft Last Friday, 14th June, 2013 a long-range, w ide-body A350 successfully took off the ground for the very first time. The A350 model comes as the latest and the most technologically advanced Airbus commercial aircraft, over half of w hich is made up of various composite materials. How ever, in an attempt to save several years w hile developing new aircraft types, as w ell as introduce new materials and technologies, aircraft manufacturers are also intensively reshaping their supply chain, as w ell as outsourcing both component design and production. Unfortunately, more complex supply chain has proven to be fraught w ith additional challenges for Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 projects. Will the supply chain become an issue for the A350 as w ell?
