Collaborative Digital Threads: Accelerating Certification of Emerging Tech
Abstract: Digital Threads and Twins have transformed how aircraft are built, now it’s time to allow them to accelerate the system that certifies them for safe flight. Commercial technologies like eVTOL, digital twins, and hydrogen are fueling a revolution in aerospace. Cutting edge capabilities are challenging assumptions and speeding up decision cycles for regulators, but government certification systems have struggled to keep up. The FAA, U.S. Air Force and NASA have demonstrated willingness to innovate, but rigid certification architectures are dragging on the industry. The certification system is primed for a digital transformation. Robust digital bridges between requirements, design, build, testing, and most importantly, certification will unlock software-enable, responsive architectures.
Dr. Will Roper, Founder & CEO, Istari
