Deerfield Beach Mayoral Candidate Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed 4
Gwendolyn Clarke-Reed is currently running for
Mayor of Deerfield Beach, Florida. The election will be held on March 14th, 2017. Her priorities are education, health care, property taxes, affordable housing, transportation, youth development, veterans and senior services. As a teacher for the New York City Department of Education. She was elected to the New York City District 18 School Board, where she served from 1980 to 1983. In 1993, Clarke-Reed was elected as a Deerfield Beach City Commissioner. During her 12-years on the Deerfield Beach City Commission, from 1993 to 2005, she served as Vice-Mayor during her first year. In 2008, Clarke-Reed ran in the 92nd District, which includes northeastern Broward County, stretching from Deerfield Beach to Fort Lauderdale. She beat out Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton and accountant Mark J. LaFontaine in the Democratic primary with 41% of the vote and ran unopposed in the general election. In 2010, she ran against Wilton Manors City Commissioner Justin Flippen and defeated him with 56% of the vote. In 2012, Clarke-Reed remained in the 92nd District and won her third term in the House entirely uncontested. At the time, Clarke-Reed was the only woman, as well as the only African American in the race. She has served as President of the Broward League of Cities, the first Deerfield Beach government official ever to hold the post and the first woman of color elected to the position in the 45-year history of the organization.

Dwight M. Bullard is a superior leader and
community activist with a commitment and urgency around bringing educational equity to our nation’s children, as well as restoring communities to their full potential. On November 18th, 2008, he was sworn into office as representative of District 118. In 2012 he was elected to the Florida Senate. He is currently a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Transportation Committee and the Education policy and Appropriations Committees. Senator Bullard has served as a leader in the area of Education due to his outstanding leadership and commitment to education, both as a teacher and a policy maker. His extensive and remarkable role in Educational leadership has granted him tremendous recognition; Bullard was a recipient of the Florida Education Association’s Freshman Friend of Public Education Award, and the Florida Association of School Administrators’ Next Generation Leader Award. Senator Bullard is also affiliated with several Democratic organizations, and hence was awarded the Young Democrat’s of Miami Dade Outstanding Leadership Award. The Redlands Democrat, and currently chairs the MiamiDade Democratic Party. Dwight is a member of several community, civic and social organizations, ranging from the NAACP to 100 Black Men of South Florida. Senator Bullard is a member of several boards including City Year Miami, Camillus House and the Zoological Society of South Florida and has received countless community recognitions from both local and national groups.
