CRAFTSMANSHIP AND HERITAGE The Garrard sporting legacy dates back to the mid 18th century, when the firm inaugurated a rich and glorious bond with the sporting world that remains evident today. In 1776, the firm made the oldest surviving competitive sailing trophy, the Cumberland Cup, which is on display at The Royal Thames Yacht Club. The celebrated America’s Cup, the oldest international perpetual trophy in the world, was made by Garrard in 1848 and given to the Royal Yacht Squadron for the 1851 sailing race around the Isle of Wight. It was won by America, the name of the schooner from which the trophy took its name.

BESPOKE DESIGN Our rich trophy tradition, coupled with an innovative design spirit, continues to convey in silver, and other precious materials, the sporting ideals of prowess and victory. In 2011, Garrard created the ‘Alpari World Match Racing Tour’ championship trophy that represents a world-class sailing tournament and is inspired by the Tour’s double-sail logo. The contemporary design is inspired by the power and swell of the ocean waves spiralling upwards with rope motifs echoing the nautical theme. The trophy is sterling silver with partial gilt and enamel and stands at an impressive 60cm high.

ELITE TROPHIES Historically, Garrard was the leading supplier for sporting silverware in the equestrian world. The most prestigious of these were the Ascot Heath Races Trophy in 1833, the Queen’s Cup for Ascot in 1861, the gold King George V Trophy in 1911 for show jumping and the King Emperor’s Cup for the Epsom Calcutta Races in India. Nurturing this relationship, Garrard was honoured to design and produce the inaugural silver gilt Dubai World Cup trophy in 1996. The original artwork is proudly on view at the Garrard flagship store in London. In celebration of a long-standing relationship with Goodwood since 1902, Garrard was commissioned in 2011 to design and create the Magnolia Cup for the Ladies Day Race along with a beautiful sterling silver and gilt brooch featuring the magnolia motif as an elegant memento of the day for the lady jockeys. The symbolism of the trophy design is inspired by the ‘magnolia grandiflora’ that grow in the grounds of Goodwood House.

SILVER FOR THE SPORT OF KINGS Garrard is proud to continue an association with Polo, the Sport of Kings, since the 19th Century. In 2011, Garrard announced an official partnership with the Sentebale Polo Cup, to raise funds for the Sentebale charity founded by Prince Harry. In 2012, Garrard created the Most Valuable Player award for the tournament. Later that same year, Garrard created the spectacular Goldin Gold Cup for the Metropolitan Polo Club in Tianjin, China. LEAGUE TROPHIES The current Premier League football trophy was designed by Garrard in 1993. The main body of the trophy is made from hand raised solid sterling silver and silver gilt weighing 25kg, and sits on a stone plinth veneered with malachite. The gilded crown at the top symbolises the glory of winning the world’s most viewed sporting league. Garrard was also responsible for creating the magnificent Japanese J League football trophy. Whether you are launching an international league or a one-off event, please contact us to discuss how Garrard can create a beautiful trophy for you.
