Wet, Wet, Wet! Heaviest rain for years floods much of the area
hua hin, thailand Last weekend will be remembered by many in the Hua Hin, Cha Am and Petchburi areas as the heavens opened and dropped a massive deluge of rain, overloading the drainage systems and leading to widespread flooding. The Meteorological Department of Thailand recorded 126.2mm of rain in Hua Hin on Saturday,
compared to 29mm the previous day and 18.1mm the following day; Phetchaburi was hit for three days from Friday to Sunday with 66.2, 96.3 and a massive 148.1mm leading to the authorities declaring it a disaster zone. Just to put the figures in context, the average total rainfull in Hua Hin for the whole of October, typically the wettest month, is 211mm, and about the
same for Phetchaburi. Many areas lost electricity as the flood waters rose, with the Soi 102 area particularly badly hit, and the local authority sent help in boats to bring food and other supplies to the worst affected.
