The Day The Music Died Phoenix Bar owner dies after brief illness hua hin, thailand Alan Ross died last Saturday morning from a heart attack, leaving his wife, Mae, family and friends devastated. Alan had apparently been suffering some breathing problems over the previous couple of weeks, and he was admitted into Hua Hin hospital last week. The words that everybody who knew him have been using are ‘gentleman’ and ‘lovely guy’ and this is exactly what he was. A fanatical music lover and collector he would enthuse about the music he played
in the bar. He was especially keen on country and western music, but his taste ran the spectrum of music. Alan was 67 and a Canadian citizen, and had been in Hua Hin for many years. His first involvement in the bar business here was at Flamingos bar in the centre of town, but after a successful spell there he opened one of the first, if not the first ‘neighbourhood’ bar, the Phoenix, and he was followed there by many of his old customers, and being the great host he was, made many new friends and customers. He was cremated on Thursday at a local temple and will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him. Mae will continue with the Phoenix and we hope that all of Alan’s many friends and acquaitances will go there and have a drink for our absent friend. Rest In Peace Alan.
