GET IN THE HOLE! HUA HIN GOLF FESTIVAL 2011 TEES OFF
HUA HIN THAILAND For the tenth year running, golfers in Hua Hin are being offered the chance to play some of the areas superb courses for a flat rate green fee of 800 baht. The courses participating this year are the Banyan, Royal Hua Hin, Palm Hills, Eagle Milford, Majestic Creek, Kaeng Krachan, Imperial lake View, Springfield, Sawang and the Royal Thai Army Sports Center Suan Son Pradipat Golf Course (Sea Pines). The festival runs throughout August and September, and there are special tournaments also taking place on five weekends throughout the festival; 6-7 August (Eagle Milford and Sea Pines), 20-21 August (Palm Hills and Imperial Lake View), 27-28 August (Banyan and Majestic Creek), 3-4 September (Sawang and Kaeng Krachan) and 10-11 September (Royal Hua Hin and Springfield). Entry fee for each tournament is 2500 baht (except for Sawang and Kaeng Krachan which are 2000 baht) and this includes green fee, caddy, dinner and rewards. There has been some criticism by local expat golfers recently of how they are treated by some of the golf courses, with regard to dual pricing, tee time booking for members and a lack of foresight by the courses to attract them to play with special offers other than the annual festival. Some estimates put the expat golfing fraternity at around the 1500 mark, but many people simply can’t afford to play as often as they would like, if at all, and during low season courses are often quite empty. This has been particularly noticeable with the Thai baht being so strong, while green fees have doubled in recent years at many courses. Maybe the golf festival should be expanded to run throughout the low season?
