HUA HIN, THAILAND Few can have escaped the news of riots and looting on the streets of UK cities and towns this week, but thankfully most of you reading this (with the honourable exception of our dedicated online readers) have already escaped the problems that are cropping up all over the rest of the world, and will be able to enjoy a riot of your own with the events and activities ongoing or coming soon to Hua Hin. Currently there is the Golf Festival of course, in it’s tenth year with ten courses offering 800 baht green fees until the end of September; also celebrating it’s tenth anniversary is the King’s Cup Elephant Polo which celebrates a decade by returning to Hua Hin after a three year hiatus in Chiang Rai, and this is taking place at the Anantara Resort from Monday 4th to Monday 11th September; with a 3,000-seat stadium being built and the games free of charge for everyone, this year’s event promises to be the biggest ever. Squeezed in between these two in the last weekend of August (Friday 26th and Saturday 27th) we have the world renowned Hua Hin Jazz Festival bringing ‘Jazz On The Beach’ also for the tenth time, although for the first time in August. Planning for this year’s event has been disrupted by a number of things, not least the Thai General Election, but thousands will flock to the town to soak up the sun, sea, sand and sax.
