Hua Hin Stories Urban myths and rumours still going around... hua hin, thailand Anyone who stays here long enough will start to hear the truths, halftruths and downright untruths that seem to have been circulating in the town since it first became popular with foreign tourists. No one really knows if any of these tales have any basis in fact, or are just the result of overactive imaginations; however, in case you haven’t heard them, here are some of the better known stories... First up, the absolute fact that the fishing pier restaurants and guest houses will be torn down and the whole stretch made into an up market beach/boardwalk affair. While this does have some basis in fact, the legal struggle between the occupiers and owners of the premises in question has been ongoing for years with so far, no end in sight. So this may happen... one day...maybe. The next gem is that the Bintabaht bars will be moved ‘out of the town centre’. The original story was that the canal road was the destination, but that never happened, and now some are saying Soi 102, others claim
Soi 80 is already becoming the ‘new Bintabaht’. The fact remains that the most new bars opening has been in the sois adjacent to Bintabaht Poolsuk, Selekam and Sarakam (or ‘No Name’ street as many know it). During the puritanical Thaksin years this seemed likely to come true, but economics seems to have dictated otherwise; unlikely to ever happen unless the hotels move. Disneyland Hua Hin - NEXT! An oversea superhighway bridge from Bangkok - DOUBLE NEXT! A new airport to be built inland; this is one that probably still has some legs, but the economic downturn has probably meant it
has been mothballed for a few years. However a significant landowner and wealthy businessman are supposed to be behind the plan so you never know. Top class international school and hospital; while it would be wonderful for parents to have more education choices, it seems that what is currently available is it for the forseeable future. However a new hospital is on the horizon , possibly as early as the end of next year - as the Bangkok Hospital Group are expanding here. Why not share the stories you have heard?
