Business As Usual? Rumours fly as established businesses falter
hua hin, thailand Two of the best known businesses in town teetered on the precipice of closure last week, with one falling, leaving customers bemused as to what was going on. Rumours were rife once people saw the locked doors, and AWOL has been digging to find out the truth. The most surprising of the two affected was Halex, the drinks supplier near the Grand Hotel and market on Phetchkasem Road, as this appeared to be a thriving business with contracts to supply the majority of venues selling alcohol. Late last week the staff were sent around town collecting outstanding payments, having been told that the money would be used to pay their wages and clear the business’s debts with their own suppliers, but the doors of the premises were closed and have remained so since. Reports have also said that the police were
business, Hans, and his wife have disappeared, and their house emptied as well. Meanwhile, another established name, Siam Properties, came close to closing last week only to get a last minute reprieve with some emergency financing.
