The Chelsea and England footballer and captain John Terry has probably had a couple of weeks he would like to put behind him, after the injunction imposed was lifted regarding reporting his scandalous affair with his former teammate’s girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel. And where better to come than our very own Paradise City? Rumours have been circulating around the town that Terry is here with his wife, Toni Poole, in a last ditch attempt to save his marriage. It was widely reported that this was taking place in Dubai, but it is believed to be a smokescreen to keep the press at bay, and that they are staying at a private luxury resort on the outskirts of Hua Hin. Our source will not name the resort because of fears he will lose his job. Hua Hin is no stranger to celebrities arriving here in secrecy, and many often head to the luxury spa resorts such as Chiva Som, or the hotel hideaway the Evason Resort,
reported that they are driving around in an old Ford Capri to be as unobtrusive as possible, complete with furry dice dangling from the mirror, and a sticker across the top of the windscreen saying ‘John and Toni’ By the time you read this it could be that we should be describing Terry as ‘disgraced former England captain’ and reading headlines in the British press like ‘Love Rat Terry Being Sued For Divorce’, or will the Hua Hin air revive their relationship?

The British Embassy in Bangkok will still be able to produce an emergency travel document if required. He cannot assist with the production of notarised letters re pensions etc (this has to be done in Bangkok) or with UK visas. Although the visa issuing office is co located at the embassy it is the responsility of the UK Home Office and not the FCO and therefore he has no sway one way or the other as to whether a visa is issued. He will however assist with completing the visa application form if required. If you are a British Citizen it is strongly recommended that you register your name and address with the FCO, their website is https://locate.fco.gov.uk so that in the event of a crisis you can easily be contacted. It is also recommeneded that you have medical insurance; it is quite surprising how quickly your bank account can be depleted through hospital bills. Have you ever wondered where a certain phrase comes from, or what it really means? Every week we will expand your knowledge of English UK Sausages, Ham, and its etymology with a different Bacon, Pies, Teas etc. word or saying. This week it is... Call 087 155 7737 or 089 985 7473 Get on my wick Annoy me; get on my nerves. The slang term ‘wick’ features in several variants of this phrase ‘you get on my wick’, ‘you’re getting on my wick’, we even find ‘he got on her wick’, although, as we will see below, the latter isn’t strictly anatomically correct. The expression is of UK origin but sounds a little dated now and was much more widely used in the mid 20th century. ‘Wick’ isn’t just slang, it is Cockney Rhyming Slang. For the source we have to visit the South West London district of Hampton Wick. The ‘Hampton Wick’ rhyme is with ‘prick’, which was later shortened to just ‘hampton’ or, less frequently, to ‘wick’. As with other words that are now considered acceptable in everyday speech, e.g. ‘berk’,and ‘cobblers’, ‘you are getting on my wick’ is often used without the speaker or hearer considering the genital origin. That’s not surprising as many slang terms are euphemistic in the sense that they are attempts to smuggle innuendos past the uninitiated. ‘Hampton’ and ‘wick’ are right up there in this league. The best example of this is seen in the ongoing battle that Spike Milligan (the writer of the classic BBC comedy The Goon Show (below)) and his writing colleagues had with the BBC censors. Following WWII, a crop of comedy writers returned from wartime service and the baudy barrack room humour they brought with them was anathema to the rather stuffy establishment types who managed the BBC. ‘Wick’ as slang for ‘prick’, and the first use of the phrase in question, appears to have begun in the British services during WWII. The first reference that can be found to it in print comes from a military context, just at the end of the war - Penguin New Writing XXVI, 1945: Parades and bullshit get on his wick. Private Milligan would certainly have been familiar with the sexual origin of the slang ‘wick’ and ‘hampton’ but the BBC censors, more likely to have been captains than corporals, apparently weren’t. In the Goon Show episode The Battle of Spion Kop, broadcast in 1958, he managed to introduce the character Captain Hugh Jampton (played by Michael Bentine, in a pretty good impersonation of the chinless wonder censors that they were satirising). The audience were up to speed with the innuendo and found Hugh Jampton (Huge Hampton, of course), and the fact that he was ‘excused shorts’, hilarious - at least I, as a nine year-old schoolboy, did. The name of the district itself derives from ‘wick’, which has long held the meaning ‘dwelling place; town’. Many English place names derive this way, for example, Smethwick (probably as ‘place of the [black]smiths’). Why rhymers chose the up-market Hampton Wick rather than Hackney Wick, a district much nearer to the Cockneys’ habitual East End stamping ground, isn’t clear. 6

World’s biggest bottle of wine created, world’s biggest hangover to follow Anybody want to share a bottle of red? A group of Chinese winemakers have claimed the new world record for the world’s biggest ever bottle of wine.
The 15ft high bottle contains an astonishing 1,850 litres of wine, produced by Wang Chen Wines in Liaoning, northern China. That’s over three times the amount held by the previous record-holders, Austrian winemakers Kracher, whose bottle held 490 litres of Grande Cuvee TBA NV No.7 2005. ‘We are very proud, and the wine is very good. We have all had a glass from the bottle to celebrate,’ said a company spokesman. 8
Massachusetts, usa Chilli makes truck driver crash into house A truck driver in America crashed into a house after he was knocked unconscious by the chilli he was eating while driving. The chilli incident occurred in Lowell, Massachusetts, where the truck driver - named as Eric Gremm - was eating the chilli when his truck ran over a bump. This caused him to choke on the chilli, upon which he passed out. The truck promptly veered off the road, and smashed into the house, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the building and damaging the foundations. 59-year-old Gremm, who was taken to hospital with minor injuries, said he couldn’t remember passing out. ‘I didn’t even realize it happened,’ he said. ‘I’m glad I didn’t knock two houses down. I sure wrecked that one,’ he added, putting a positive spin on the whole affair. Nobody else was seriously injured in the crash. Police said that Gremm could now face charges of eating while driving.

a tribute to john terry Unless you have been living somewhere away from the news, you will have heard that a court injunction taken out by England and Chelsea footballer and captain John Terry has been lifted, allowing the reporting of his sordid affair, and the pregnancy and abortion that Vanessa Perroncel, former girlfriend of former team mate and friend Wayne Bridge, had as a consequence. Naturally this has led to the usual flurry of jokes, so here is the pick of them... It’s been announced on Sky Sports News that England manager Fabio Capello has phoned Wayne Bridge to let him know that John Terry has lost his captain’s armband. He has asked Bridge to check under the bed. Wayne Bridge has said he wont play for England with John Terry as captain; England fans have inundated Terry with pleas for him to shag Emile Heskey’s missus as well. Ashley Cole was caught doing 104mph in a 50mph zone. When questioned by police as to why he was speeding he said, “l’ve just heard John Terry is parked outside my house” I don’t know why everyone is giving John Terry such a hard time. As a footballer, getting a girl to consent is a rarity, he should be commended. Fabio Capello has decided that instead of dropping John Terry from his team he will instead switch him to the right wing; in Fabio’s eyes he’s proven himself more than capable of getting past left backs and scoring. John Terry to star in a new TV series - “Other Footballers Wives” John Terry’s sponsorship deal with Samsung has fallen through. Siemens are rumoured to be interested though The England team have voted for Terry to keep his place in the World Cup squad. With the ban on WAGs travelling to South Africa, no one wants him left behind.

Dear Geoff, You seem to be experiencing a classic Freudian struggle between ego and superego, much like that which I experienced recently when I sabotaged Melissa Riley’s eleventh birthday party. On the one hand, I felt bad for telling everyone that Melissa’s family are riddled with scabies and her dad is on the sex register. On the other hand, she should have thought first before pressing down so hard on my new felt tip pens and ruining at least seven of them, including the pink one which was my favourite. England Captains to be Eunuchs FA announce strict guidelines
london, ENGLAND Following the current press furore over England Captain John Terry, tough disciplinarian Fabio Capello and the FA are considering making all future England captains an ‘offer they can’t refuse’. In what would be a landmark moment for English soccer, Capello might force Terry and all future captains to undergo ‘the snip’ before being allowed to take the field. All the FA academy youngsters and any teenage players earmarked as future England internationals will be offered castration as a fast track to success. They have already instructed several advertising agencies to come up with a campaign based around the slogan ‘Snip it to win it’. Leading international coach and Bolton fishmonger, Vince Mortenson, is convinced that compulsory vasectomy is the only way forward. “We ‘ad the same sort of John Terry problem years ago with Bobby Moore”, he revealed. “When old Bobby got it together with an airstewardess, all we could do in them days was kick him in the nuts”, he explained. “It worked as far as his affair was concerned.
